Lightly dusting your molds with cornstarch before adding clay helps with removal. Also, tip the mold upside down when removing clay. If all else fails, let the clay dry in the mold so it has time to shrink and makes removal much easier.

I was wondering why everyone tries to take it out wet …if maybe there was some reason you can’t get it out or something?-cuz it seems obvious that letting it dry would be easier 🤔

@@paulieabeles2149 flat dried pieces will not work well on curved surfaces like round ornaments. Plus even on flat surfaces, one may want to curve the molded piece, say from a straight line to a half circle...
@amandajones6481
@amandajones6481 Жыл бұрын
@@paulieabeles2149Hi, I use air dry clay quite often, and I get the best results by rubbing cornflour (or corn starch) into the mould first before pushing in the clay. The cornflour makes it easy to remove the clay mouldings from the moulds, and it's best to remove the clay while it's wet, not dry, because then you can apply your clay moulding to any surface, even if it's slightly uneven. Whereas, if you wait for the clay to dry, it's harder to remove it from the mould and, unless it's completely flat on the top, it's impossible to glue it down onto your surface without gaps appearing. I hope this helps you with your craft projects. ❤

I want to give a tip that I have just discovered on getting molded pieces to easily come out intact. I was ready to give up b/c the tiny pieces were not coming out or breaking off. I realized that the molds are heatproof and initially tried putting a batch in my toaster oven @ 300 for 30 minutes. They dropped out perfectly and they were still pliable enough to fit on a curved surface. I then did another batch @250 for 30 minutes and that came out easily but was a bit easier to apply on a curved surface. Hope this helps.

Yes, that's a great tip, especially because it's a lot safer to put your expensive silicone molds in the freezer than in the oven (which is something I would never want to do 😅!!) I don't know how much silicone molds cost where you are, but here in Melbourne, Australia, the Prima molds are $37 - $50, the IOD molds are $42 and the La Blanche molds all cost $45 each.

As you may already know, in the stamping/heat embossing community we use an "anti-static powder bag" (cornstarch or talc in a piece of fabric) and tap/rub it over cardstock to remove any static, so that the embossing powder only sticks to the ink (hopefully) and not everywhere else before melting. This would be my choice for getting a super light dusting into these molds.

@IvetaZiedina
@IvetaZiedina 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Lisa! That is very normal for air drying clay. As far as I understand it has more to do with the heat/humidity combo. I don’t get that issue too often I think because it’s very humid here, and clay takes a long time to dry all the way. If cracks are an issue you could use wall crack filler to fill them in once clay is dry.
