I'm so thankful for this video! My dentist didn't show me how to do this either, instead gave me a vague instruction sheet. Today, I used my custom trays for the first time and thought I would cry, it hurt so bad! Thinking the edges of the new trays were sharp, I tried to tough it out. Less than 6 minutes in, I pulled them off and looked in the mirror. It was obvious my gums were angry. I wasn't too happy either. Prior experience using the preloaded trays with no issues, this was a very different experience. It was unpleasant but the minimal amount of time they were on, there's a difference! Whiter but uncomfortable guns! Because of your informative video, I know what mistakes I made and will be trying again in a couple of days. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge. Whitening not being something I do, I didn't know what questions to ask, I had that "instruction" sheet... Ha! Seriously, dental offices who offer this at home application should be much more proactive about instructions and most especially informing their patients that bleach can cause not only gum irritation but BURNING. Thank you again! I hope my trays last as long as yours have, excellent tips for cleaning and care!

These are the Chinese ones that have more way more bleach than is allowed lol, but damn, do they do a hell of a job in a short amount of time, but they WILL burn your gums lol. Did you do the enamel treatment afterwards? My teeth were killing me for days afterwards... But they were 5-6 shades brighter, had them on for 4 hours

Thank you! That was very clear and concise, and it answered all my many questions 🙏🏽 My “polyday” gel is from “2018-01”. Yes, I got it four years ago, and just procrastinated! My teeth have never been such a shade of yellow, and I’m really eager to whiten up! I don’t drink coffee, and barely any wine or tea… it’s just time. Just tried the first tube today. It comes out as a gel, not as a liquid. I have kept it in the fridge, I am hopeful that it will still work to some degree. The lower tray fits fine, the upper one, not as great. The upper one also causes me to have it get a mouthful of saliva, as well, so I may have to get a re-fitting 😞 to be able to tolerate it. The tubes say “9.5% hydrogen peroxide gel”. The dental assistant said to use it for *20 minutes*, which is markedly different from the amount of time you’re recommending. I’m going to call them to check if I mis-heard, or if they have another reason for that amount of time. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge 🙂

Hi, I usually tell my patients to use the gel for 2 weeks initially. Most are very happy with the results. Some need to whiten for a week or 2 longer. After the initial whitening, using the trays one day a month is enough to maintain the effect for most people. People who drink a lot of coffee, tea, or red wine may need to do it more frequently. Hey doc, thanks for the video! I’m using KöR for the whitening, but I have a question: does the actual teeth bleaching come from the gel-syringes or the last in-office bleaching? Thank you in advance!
@VeryNiceSmileDental Жыл бұрын
Hi, I haven't used Kor whitening but I have heard of it. Usually whitening is a function of the strength of the whitening gel and how long you use (both the amount of time it stays on the tooth, and the number of days you wear the trays).
@nuclear_winter4 ай бұрын
Great vid, thank you. I got some gel from the end of my Invisalign treatment to put in my retainers, but I was told to use it overnight which hurt my teeth and I couldn't sleep in it, so I never used it and once it expired I threw it out. But now I've just ordered some gel that I need only wear half hour a day and I'll keep in mind if it expires that it still works as long as it's decent in consistency. I'll also only bother to apply to the outside this time, may hurt my teeth/gums less and there's really no point doing the parts you can't see. Especially for me as a smoker and tea and coffee drinker, won't last forever.
@VeryNiceSmileDental4 ай бұрын
Hi, the Invisalign retainer may not be trimmed properly to work as a whitening tray. Whitening trays need to be trimmed in such a way that they don't cover your gums at all on the lip side of your teeth. Whitening trays are also more flexible to get a better seal around the teeth. Have your dentist take a look at it.
@nuclear_winter4 ай бұрын
@@VeryNiceSmileDental Yes don't worry, my retainers are fine, they don't cover my gums and my ortho wouldn't have told me the whitening I had at the same time can be used in them. I think the very first and only time I used that gel, I overfilled them. Plus my gums are a little sensitive in general in some areas, but seem to be getting stronger with regular consistent brushing. I'll try not to overfill, I'll probably get better over time at it, and like I say this new gel I only have to wear about 30 mins a day. 22% carbamide peroxide.

Question I have been using 10 percent gel for 2 weeks now but seen hardly any difference. But do you have to dry your teeth etc before putting them on? Maybe I am doing this wrong I where them over night about 7 hours just fyi
@VeryNiceSmileDental Жыл бұрын
Hi, it may take longer when you use the 10% gel since it is the weakest gel. Teeth don't have to be dry when put the trays on them. Don't eat or drink while you are wearing them.
@davidvorajee6232 Жыл бұрын
@@VeryNiceSmileDental ok thank you and I don't eat or drink while using them if that helps

How does this method compare to the in-office method with the blue light setting gel? I’m thinking the look of the teeth afterwards and maintenance required.
@VeryNiceSmileDental9 ай бұрын
Hi, studies show that the blue light doesn't do anything, the whitening effect is due to the strength of the whitening gel you use, and the length of time it's on the teeth.
@Anilu7779 ай бұрын
@@VeryNiceSmileDentaloh! It seemed to ‘set’ the gel or something like that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Which method is more permanent (the whiteness stays longer)?
@VeryNiceSmileDental9 ай бұрын
Hi. With in office bleaching using a blue light, your teeth will dehydrate just from your mouth being open for the length of the appointment. The dehydration makes your teeth look whiter, but then they will appear to get darker again in a couple of days as your teeth rehydrate. Whitening from the gel will last longer since it actually whitens your teeth and doesn't dehydrate them. I hope that makes sense.

Hi Doc, thanks for your video and demonstration. Does it matter if you complete the treatment in one go. Or can you take a few days off between applications?
@VeryNiceSmileDental Жыл бұрын
You can take a few days off, but you will get better results faster by doing it everyday. Are you getting some sensitivity?
@121music4life Жыл бұрын
@@VeryNiceSmileDental yes I’m struggling with the sensitivity. But still enjoying the results so far. It’s a shame you have to complete the course in consecutive days for the best results. Because it’s a big commitment wearing it every night for 2 weeks

Many thanks doc for this informative video. My question is, how do i use that tracking card? Seems like I missed that part from my docs explanation. Thank you

Can you use the gel on the underside of the teeth as if you're biting to get that part of the teeth white as well?

Can I use my retainers to do teeth whitening? Also I’m told my teeth whitening tubes expire after a month?
@VeryNiceSmileDental Жыл бұрын
Hi, I usually recommend getting custom whitening trays made in order to keep the gel away from your gums. Majority of the orthodontic retainers I've seen tend to cover the gums somewhat. As the gel expires, it may not work as well. It will still work as long as it doesn't separate.

My dentist gave me a vague directions which then led me to irritation my gums. What do I do now? It hurts to brush my teeth
@VeryNiceSmileDental2 ай бұрын
Give your dentist a call. In the meantime stop using the whitening for a few days to give your gums a chance to heal. You can probably resume whitening once your gums heal.

How many nights do i use this process ?, my dentist said 2 weeks but that seems alot of treatments when my friend said only one night

I usually recommend 2 weeks. Some people need more time, some people need less time.

Hi doc,I started using mine tonight. Does the gel bleach the tooth from the bottom upwards or the whole teeth or in spots?
@VeryNiceSmileDental Жыл бұрын
Hi, due to the tight fit of the trays, the gel will get to the entire tooth.

Hello doctor, is it common if my trays get filled up with saliva? Cause they are really uncomfortable for me; I feel that lots of product get lost because of this
@VeryNiceSmileDental8 ай бұрын
Hi, the trays should fit your teeth tightly. Have your dentist check them to make sure they still fit well.

Hey Doc, first, thanks a million for the video an clear explanation! I just started my whitening process with philips zoom 16%. I applied a drop on every teeth but I can barely see the gel after all the salivation that is going on in my mouth 😅. Is that normal or if it keeps happening every day it will reduce the effectivity of the treatment?

You're welcome. Just to be sure, you are using trays?

@@VeryNiceSmileDental yes, but it feels like the saliva manages to go inside as I can taste the product the whole time

Do the trays fit properly? You will be able to taste the gel while you are wearing the trays. The trays should fit onto your teeth well.

I use Opalescence made by Ultradent. I've been using it since the 90's. For my patients I use either 35% for a half hour once a day or 10% overnight, depending on the patient.
