How to Use Discord - Beginner's Guide

Discord is an all-in-one communication platform and it has voice chat, video chat, text chat, screen share and it's free to use.
Discord is available on the browsers at Discord.com, a desktop app for Mac or PC on discord.com, and a mobile app for iOS or Android.

You can follow public servers or join private ones.
Discord is organized this way:
Sever is at the top level.
Inside of each server, you have channels.
You can set your status on discord as online, idle, do not disturb, or invisible.
To start, you can join a server or you can create one by pressing the plus icon.
To join a channel, you need the link for that server.
But anyone can create one.
Inside of each server, you can have voice channels and you can have text channels. You can also create categories to organize your channels into folders.

Thanks for your help. Elder Millennial here and I'm very tech savvy. Been able to get away with avoiding Discord until just now, as I like to keep my electronic footprint small (not liking that my information is constantly being passed around from corp to corp), but had no choice but to join a server today. But Discord's interface is just exhausting to look at. Frankly, I'd rather be expending mental energy programming shaders than trying to figure out the trivialities of which buttons do what on Discord's very disorganized-looking UI.

Before watching this video I found Discord to be totally confounding. After watching this...even more so. A relatively new platform should not be this complicated and difficult to understand. Honestly, I can't imagine what it's like inside the brains of the people who created Discord. Life in 2020 shouldn't be this difficult.

Jacques de Molay Start by chatting and getting used to the layout etc. This video will be very confusing if you don't even know how does the app look. My tip is simple. Join a discord server and start to get used to chatting, and all the chat options, like emotes etc. A good set up server will allow you to learn more than a thousand videos. Look around, discover but don't create your own server yet. Get used to all the things like spoiler text, or quoting a message etc, learning how bots work in general and roles management should only be after you get used to the app.

Bianca Muresan discord started in like 2015-2016 so just like you say it's not that new. And besides there are full guides from discord support team that explains how discord works, especially if you are on browser or desktop, there are much more tips

@@jerushadsa9354 joining a server is mandatory to communicate with other people. A server contains channels. In my understanding it's not mandatory to join a channel. As long you are on a server you can communicate with other people who also joined that server.

@@jerushadsa9354 No it's not related. A server on Discord is just a 'virtual' server. It's not the same as a webserver or game server etc. Anybody can create a server. You don't need technical knowledge. A server on Discord is just a collection of channels where people, connected to the same server, can talk to each other.

I once joined Discord. I was invited by a channel owner to talk about some aspect of science but had no idea what Discord was. I imagined it was some sort of dead simple texting type thing that was separate from KZbin live chat. When it came on the screen I found the whole thing a visual mess. I was totally confused. I didn’t know how to create a server was or even what a server was. I was horrified when I found I couldn’t delete or cancel it. I was completely out of my depth. I suffer from depression & anxiety and I’m a complete introvert. I clicked about at random and found I’d opened all sorts of things I had no interest in. Everyone texting seemed to be using a different language, a kind of distorted, clipped type of English with loads of strange acronyms. I actually had a panic attack. I couldn’t get out of it and had to ask the channel owner who first asked me to join to help me cancel my membership, which he did. I was in such a state that he said he said I’d frightened him. I think he thought I might jump off a bridge or something. I saw this video and watched out of curiosity. I guess it is very helpful but I won’t be rejoining. Even though I get along with most of the stuff in this modern, mess of a world, I guess Discord is too modern and messy for me. Am I the only one who had such an extreme reaction to It.

This is the best explanation to how to get envolved in either joining a discord or starting one. My question is: What microphone and hearing device is reliable enough to be of any usefullness for long durations. I've bought rather inexpensive headsets and mic combo's and they work great at first, but for what ever reason. Either the mic stops or the audio stops in a realively short amount of time, generally around a month of say six hour days on discord. I realize one can spen thousands on a headset and or microphone. But most, simular to me, don't have thosands to invest. What would you recomend along the line of a good long lasting durable listening and microphone set up.
