I bought a Simmons SDHB2 for $90 on ebay (they call it an auxilliary or expansion module - its got 9 inputs - sounds are ok - some are pretty awesome) - hooked it up to EZdrummer via USB and it totally works - super amazing - and the latency is not an issue ... thanks for this vid, man!!

You're possibly my favorite person for letting me know the video helped. It was a pain to figure out some of the in's and outs of using EZdrummer. No one has a good, complete tutorial on it for edrums. So this was my best shot at trying to explain solutions to the little annoying problems that I ran into.

finally got EZ Drummer 2 hooked up last night, but latency through my speakers was horrible! This got my latency down to 6.1 ms and unnoticeable to my ears. Thanks so much (again) for the help, Justin!!!

Yes, I believe that 7ms is the limit to what is perceivable to the human ear and what is not. That being said, be careful as if some other things in your signal chain adds latency like some effects units, multiple plugins, wireless in-ears, etc, can tick up the latency to 8, 10, 12, or even higher. So just be aware, you're already on the edge and don't have much latency headroom left to play with.

Hello! First of all i'd like to thank you for your videos. I recently bought an e-drum, but first i watched a lot of your videos, so then i choose the one that was best for me. Now i've started using my e-drum with vst's and i'd like to know if there is a way that i can get a sigle zone cymbal pad to trig 2 sounds ( bell and ride) using EZD2, SD3, AD2... according to how hard i hit the pad.

Thanks for pointing out you can download ASIO drivers for your built in sound card on a laptop. ASIO was greyed out on my laptop in the ezdrummer options window and I assumed I was screwed since the latency with the wav out was so bad. Going to try ASIO today, thanks again!!

Under Audio Device I'm using ASIO for the Device type but I have to choose TD 11 for the ASIO device. If I leave it at ASIO4allv2, I only hear the TD11 module kit not the EZ Drummer2 kit. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks.

Click MIDI Device (far left side of that window) and select TD11. Now plug your headphones into the laptop.

I previously had a problem with Ezdrummer 2 + Alesis nitro or Xdrum DD530, so now I have Alesis crimson and when I updated Ezdrummer 2 to version 2.1.3. So it works 100%, even hi-hat is with continual sound

For anyone having trouble with latency (because I struggled with this as well), I use a Scarlett 2i2 interface with a cheap HP laptop which was $500. Justin is absolutely correct about the ASIO driver. It reduces latency significantly and it is free. You do NOT need the "Holy Shit" computer for this to work. I have my ASIO set at 3.0 ms and it works flawlessly. I had it set to 2.0 and I noticed some issues, so I bumped it up to 3.0 and it works great. I don't notice any latency at all. You just have to play around with it to find a setting that works with your computer. Hope this helps and thank you Justin for your videos. I love them! Take care friends!

Have an issue with ezdrummer2. In settings/midi device there´s my e-drum, selected and active. have only demo verson (dont want to buy the program before i know everything is working) of ezdrummer and i cant see all the manufactures. (can only see yamaha and roland) When i open EZdrummer i have sound for a couple of seconds then nothing. The drums is still active and enable under settings/midi

I have an alesis nitro mesh and while using ezdrummer 2 the kick drum is almost non existent. I have maxed the volume and sensitivity on the module and in the program itself but nothing changes. Everything else sounds fine which is what I dont understand lol

When I go to audio/ midi set up and choose asio for my device type and when I put the buffer wheel all the way to the minimum so I have the least latency. It works but unfortunately my sound is like cutting in and out every like 5 seconds. Any idea

Having a solid internal sound card does help a lot. I have used an older than baseball M-Audio Delta66 for, well, forever and never really had a problem with USB MIDI. I have had tones of problems with USB MIDI when there was... 1. A USB Sound card connected, like a M-Audio Fast Track. It is just too much info for the USB Buss to handle. 2. A lot of USB peripherals. Items like printers, keyboards, mice, and even chargers can really screw up a USB MIDI device. Don't have any items that need power turned on when trying to use USB MIDI, and even better unplug all the USB devices that you do not need. 3. And a biggie, this one will get even the pros out there.....do NOT switch the USB port after you get the device identified. If you get your drum module to work using the Front Right Hand USB Jack, ALWAYS plug it into the Front Right Hand USB Jack. If you go using any jack that is open you WILL run the risk of the MIDI dropping out, getting scrambled, and just getting a mess. I have also seen this screw up other items also, like a printer only printing 1/2 a page, a mouse jumping all over the place, etc. And I am talking AFTER the USB MIDI is unplugged and put away. Of course, if you have the PCI / PCIx slot to use an internal MIDI card, go that route, you will have a LOT less headaches. I am using an old MIDI MAN card & 2x2 box that uses a PCI slot, and have zero problems out of my MIDI in the studio.

Got a question...so our drum kit's snare was way too sensitive, and when my drummer's knee would accidentally brush against the side of the snare pad it would trigger a full hit sound which caused some awkward mis hits. When using the EZdrummer software and the kit as a trigger, how would I dial back the sensitivity? Would that be on the kit module or in Exdrummer program?

@pete M3rlin sorry to break it to you but an i3 processor is not very strong. if i had to guess i would say the issues are because of your processor. vst require a lot of cpu and an i3 is just too small to handle that much cpu

So many questions... I've been using e-drums for years at our church but about to take my first step into midi. I'm using pearl tru-trac heads and REDbox module with zildjian gen 16 cymbals. Currently I run the redbox into the zildjian module input and main out from there. Can I run midi for the drum heads then go from my computer back to the zildjian module input?

Why is it that when I trigger a sampkle with the mouse - it has a sharp attack and a certain volume whereas when I trigger it with the Roland drums it has a much softer and much weaker sound (even after I moved the MIDI VOLUME UP - with the slider to the right of the Song Creator Button) ??

When you click on the drum with your mouse, it triggers the sound at MAX velocity and volume every time. When you play ezdrummer with a roland, you get a variation of sounds just depending on how hard you hit. But you can get that same sound with Roland if you go to trigger settings and Crank up the sensitivity up on all the pads

I went down 32 and got 1.5 latency..at 64 I get 3.9. . I’m trying to plug a TM2 into my Scarlett with 5 pin connection and then a USB printer cable to my computer. Ez2 recognizes the Focusrite USB but not the Roland. My midi channel is 10 in the TM2 and I was able to change that to the same channel in EZ2. Still can’t get the RT-30 HR to make a sound. I wrote to Roland this afternoon and I’m waiting for an answer. I thought you might find this interesting.

+Fallen OS Try unplugging it, and plugging it back in. Also, you MIGHT need to install some drivers for your particular drum module. Check out the website of your drumset manufacturer.

I am looking for a way for ez drummer software to recognize the sound board . I play this at church on the nitro and have the 3.5mm Male to Male Stereo Audio Aux Cable running from laptop to the module .It works but i want to hook it up directly instead is there a better way?. Hi, Justin. Thanks for your reviews. I finally decided on a Simmons Titan 50 based on your review (and Alternative Drummer, aka Demonic Sweaters). This is my first kit so I dont actually know how it should respond. When played by itself I dont have any problem. The module sounds respond well to my playing, I think. But I think the volume of the toms may be a bit low. But when connected to EZdrummer 2 it is hard to reach high velocities on the toms and the snare (specially the toms) without hitting too hard. I am afraid to break the mesh. I am using the Simmons setting and I have not modified the sensitivity. Shouldnt this just work without changing the sensitivity ? It is like the toms hardware is not callibrated correctly to reach high velocities (piezo too far ?, or not too sensitive maybe ? ). Ive read that this is low volume problem is common in many edrums, like the Alesis Surge Mesh or the Roland TD-12 but Im not sure if they are talking about the same problem. Based on your vast experience, I would like to know if this is a right...or common on cheap electronic drum sets. Thanks.

I have the setup Roland TD15KV connected through USB cable to my MAC. Additionally, I have restored the factory settings in Roland , It has the latest version of software. I was not able to find new USB driver for MAC OS , But installed the available from Roland website. Any help is greatly appreciated
