Crucial education, Alex. I have done some considerable reading and have been in the relevant Media Production classes at UTS in Sydney. But: now that I have big plans, you stimulate me to get going. With what you tell us, I believe I can devise a series of plans which will sector into the budget ahead of involving my EP and my major funding prospects. You are indeed a scrupulous and a necessary operator in the local film-maker world. BLUEY QUILTY, MA for the TOM QUILTY PROJECT ASSOCIATES 2024

This is helpful thank you. I have some experience working with the local tax incentives office in Seattle Washington. They still require you to have financing in place for your film before you can qualify for the tax rebates.

It varies state to state, and country to country, so it's always best to check the guidelines

Great info Alex thank you ! I think that demoing this in a flow chart or in visual form would be extremely helpful. Cheers
@AlexiOuzas2 жыл бұрын
Hey Jaykub, do you mean a visual form showing how to incorporate a tax incentive into your finance plan? Will line it up for you.

@@AlexiOuzas Yes very helpful indeed. A visual would be awesome as I a visual learner!

Great Job in explaining. Can you break down how the financing would look to where it would make sense for an investor to upfront to whole production cost with a finance example?
@AlexiOuzas7 ай бұрын
You would just get them to finance the entire budget and then any benefits from tax incentives would be paid back to them

Really helpful video Alexi, thank you! Yes, I'd love to learn more about the timeline and budgeting of financing a film. For example, how do you get your ballpark figures of how much you need to raise? Who is your first hire / what are your barebones costs, must haves, for even a low budget film? Thanks again!

What is the difference between refundable tax credit and rebate? This video was super helpful btw - thanks!
@AlexiOuzas Жыл бұрын
A tax credit is a credit against your tax liability. If it's refundable, it means that if you don't have a tax liability (because you are running a loss and there is no profit to tax) you can receive the money as a refund. A rebate means you receive the money regardless of your tax liability. Hope this explains it!

Can you explain this with numbers? Thank you!

Thanks Alexi - I have subscribed so look forward to seeing more videos. Am I correct in assuming that... say you are approaching one private investor for the entire budget and you can get a 40 percent tax/cash rebate. That means you can guarantee that the investor will get back 40 percent of their initial investment?
@AlexiOuzas2 жыл бұрын
Hey Philip, thanks for subscribing. That's right, you can guarantee them that money back, though there is still some risk in terms of the actual dollar figure that will be returned. For example, if you don't spend as much in that country/state as you expected, the amount you get back from the rebate will decrease. Your other option is to raise 60% from a private investor and borrow the 40% from a finance company.

But it doesn't decrease the amount you have to come up with upfront. If you can't raise that, a tax incentive is useless.
@AlexiOuzas2 жыл бұрын
It decreases the total amount you have to come up with upfront by the amount of the tax incentive. Of course, you still need to raise the remainder of the finance in your finance plan

Thank you Alexi for making the complicated simple. We lost our main Australian investor so I am back home in the DC area starting the finance game over. I created a video synopsis for the project to be sent to production companies that have a relationship with streamers and studios. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4SWoHh9ebOdhtE For now, I'm researching the Maryland tax incentives criteria (applications open July 5) and also looking at the Western Australian tax incentives with a partner, director Dean Head in Perth.
