Tip from a hair stylist Rough dry with a regular blow dryer then section your hair run a flat iron through the section then immediately roll in Velcro roller do this to each section and leave it in for a while then take it down and finger through. Been using this method for at least 20 years 👍

When I was in high school in the sixties (😬)…. I would wash my hair Saturday mornining, roll it up on giant rollers with clips, and sit under the hot air bonnet for 2 plus hours. This was in Indiana so I would do my best not to sweat my brains out. Then make up, ( heavy ) and iron jeans and blouse, and lastly, take out the curlers. This was my 6-8 hour GRWM SATURDAY procedure! YIKES! ( I do remember looking pretty spiffy though lol ). I always had that knack for curlers, but could never master the “ blow” technique. I’m so glad big hair is coming back tho. You master every single technique, Milana, and your hair always looks GORGEOUS!!!!! Thanks for another tutorial!! ❤❤❤

Purchased a portable dome hair dryer; I use R &Co. blowout balm and just set the hair in curlers wet, sit under the dryer for a while and read a book. How long does it take if you dry or damp roll? I'm thinking about starting to use them. I'm usually in no rush and it usually takes me 30-45 minutes to do my makeup. I'm thinking put the Velcro rollers in then let them sit up while I do my makeup. I'll probably only be doing 2-3 rollers on top. My hair is already curly/wavy, it's just that it falls flat on top. I'm trying to get lasting volume up there.

I used to use these all the time when I was younger. The idea was just to make the ends look finished without having to heat style. Hated how much hair I lost in them and they were constantly getting stuck. On a whim I recently bought a set of retro ones that replicate how they were made in the ‘30s/‘40s. Omg, I spent 15 minutes getting them out. They were too small for my hair type but still, I think the Velcro roller phase of my life has passed. 😂

Hairstylist here! Sections should only be as wide as the roller, no wider! Over direct the hair for the most volume and clip at the base of the sections so you don't get funny creases! 💕
@Shira-z1u Жыл бұрын
wdym over direct? also, do you have more useful tips? i see that some ppl end up with a lot of volume, like her, but some ppl end up with waves. why is that?
@katieschilke4675 Жыл бұрын
@@Shira-z1u hi! So over direction just means when you pull the hair on top of your head up to curl it, first pull it toward the front of your head and curl it from that position.. (like this / instead of this | ) and the difference between getting volume or waves comes from the size of the barrel or roller.. also how long/short your hair is... The more times your hair wraps around the curling iron is going to give more waves or curls, if it doesn't even go around, it's just going to have a "bend" in it! I hope this helps and was understandable! ☺️

When taking out Velcro rollers, you can either slide them out slowly in one direction, instead of trying to unwind them - like you did - after you take out your hair clip. You can also keep on twisting down the roller as you unwind them. By taking them out the way you did, you get more hair caught, pulled and ripped off. When doing your rollers, take smaller and thinner sections of hair. The piece of hair should be a little less than the width of the roIler. If you want more curl, use a smaller diameter roller and put the roller on damp hair. You don’t look old at all. And… most women in their 40s and 50s are still beautiful.

I’m old enough to remember both my grandmother and my mother doing thins to themselves and to me before church or an event. Curlers, panty hose with garter belts, and slips with pointy boob brassieres. They called this “setting” the hair. LOL. You would need some product to hold that and probably tease it a bit too. I'm about to delve into Velcro rollers. My hair drives me crazy at times. I'm a curly girl and have always straightened it up until about 2 years ago. Now I usually wear it naturally. I'm a 2C/3A wave/curl. Of course the longer it gets, the more my curls are weighed down. I'm actually getting ready to have about 3"-4" cut off the length. It's about the length of Milana's right now. For me that's too long for my curls. My hair is pretty heavy. I do have long layers, which helps immensely with curly hair. The top of my hair is what drives me buggy! I just can't figure out what to do with it. It falls flat no matter what I do! Everybody is telling me to get a root perm but I already color my hair. I'd rather keep the chemical processing to a minimum. I'm gonna try getting the 4" cut off with some statically placed layers on top to see if that will help give more volume up there. I just plan to do probably three smaller Velcro rollers right on top in a "mohawk" fashion to give me volume/lift right there where I need it I figure between the cut, layers and hopefully the Velcro on top, maybe it will finally stay for a few hours. 🥴 Then again, like I said, I've never worked with Velcro rollers before so it could turn out to be an epic failure. 😆🤷♀️

How did it go? I have the same hair as you described yours as. I tried velcro a few times and my hair did not like them, kinda frized out and just straightened my curls with no volume. Made me kinda irritated. One thing curlies and wavers have in common..never know what's gonna happen with rollers on such hair.
