2007 may well be my favorite year for Bionicle. From the Barraki being great in terms of being interesting characters sporting unique builds between their sets and including titans like this and Hydraxon, it really showed the best of the theme. Kinda surprised that despite Maxilos’ mask having such an uncanny resemblance to a Hau that more people don’t use it as such for Tahu MOCs

Ha, that's me at 7:38! I made that MOC in 2009 and made a video about it on KZbin (I used to be MarvinMartian96 at the time), then I posted it again to Flickr in 2017. I definitely didn't expect to see it back here in 2023! Thanks for the mention :)

Maxilos is one of my fav bionicle set, BUT it has one big problem : the leg proportions... i mean the lower leg is way too small compared to the upper leg, seriously... :/

Do robots even have correct proportions for their limbs? They could probably be as long or short as they want being mechanical, and sometimes biomechanical.

@@Funky_Player2 yup, you re not wrong on this point, but if you ever have your hands on a maxilos set, you will see what i mean : you can see a humanoid form but the proportions makes it weird, and except for poses where the lower leg is in alignment with the feet, there is always something that doesnt feel right...

To me Hydraxon was a better Bionicle titan due to his articulated fingers and weapons, it makes him look cooler. But if Maxilos had the same hands and maybe some different weapons, maybe I would’ve liked him a lot better 🔴⚫️

I’m a Hydraxon fan as a set, and lore wise Spinax is Hydraxon’s guard dog - so I say Hydraxon wins on both counts 😂

With all due respect to the MOCers whose work you've shown off, set revamps can look kind of generic in a lot of ways, at least that specific style. Why fill in the gaps? This is explicitly a robot (i.e. not a living creature wearing armor) that's been sitting on the bottom of the ocean for a thousand years. It didn't need to be 'well-armored' or filled-out-it _shouldn't_ be.

About the blaster, it was never specified anywhere, but you need to take account of the mold lines when you charge it. This way, all 6 ammo can shoot really well and more precisely :D though on Maxilos i always saw it as a close quarter defensive system allowing it to cripple with light injuries rather than a long distance shooter...

I think the gaps work with the original Maxilos pretty well. Granted I have zero issue with gaps in general since I think it's kind of a major part of many silhouettes but Maxilos especially is a purely mechanical being so it kinda helps drive it home, better than the Vahki even imo, especially paired with all of those pistons that are actual pistons and not just details on a mold

Your leg sockets that connect to the waist are definitely cracked as shown in the video when zoomed in, thats why the set is wobbly.

In fairness even if they weren't cracked those particular pieces tend to age especially bad depending on how much use it's gotten. Rubber wears down quicker than plastic does
