These vintage (less than 100 years) or antique (minimum 100 years) curling irons ideal temperature is between 200 and 300 degrees F. For thin delicate hair closer to 200 thicker hair closer to 300. Cut strips of brown paper bags can be used as a heat barrier wrapped around the iron barrel to protect direct contact with hair and if hair is a little damp that would help with holding a curl or wave. An easy way to test temperature is use tissue paper and if the iron scorches the paper it will burn hair! Adjust accordingly. In late 1800s there was an after market curling iron heater. It was a glass hurricane lantern globe with a hole through the glass and a copper or tin tube through it. The heat from kerosene lamp wick would rise to heat this tube with the iron inserted inside it. Ladies used at least two irons at a time alternating using one while the other was heating. The usual way of heating irons was to place ontop of wood burning stove range top on the cooler end opposite the firebox. If you have an infrared laser insta-read kitchen/oven thermometer you can use it to eyeball the right temperature for irons.

Could you make a video on the rolling of the Iron for sure ?? I have a Marcel set for many years and I haven't used it much ..because of course it's always slipping from my fingers..I remembered one time I was working somewhere and it slipped and burned the person's Hair I was doing...And of course it'd be nice if you could show how to use each Iron as time goes by...Thanks..

@@estyle329 Thanks in advance my dear...Yea it was very sad actually..I actually burnt the side of her face as I was above her ear 👂 trying to curl her Hair with the Marcel Iron and for some reason it just got wobbly and slippery from my Fingers - and being nervous already didn't help as I was a Newbie at the Salon...So I will be looking out for your videos 🙏

How do you control the heat of the iron. I burnt a small part of my hair (just my nape / kitchen area) because it was too hot.. I am not a profession tho.
@estyle3293 жыл бұрын
You have to test the iron on a tissue paper to see if it’s too hot. If the tissue paper will change color to brown or Burnt than it too hot. If it doesn’t change color more than likely it ok.
