Thanks again for all the videos tips and tricks, I followed your micro by-pass and got everything working. Now with my miracast questions: 1. Can both usb ports be used; one powering the miracast, the port to utilize for a usb device? -I tried it this way at first, I had the bottom usb plugged in with the included usb cable extender. When i powered it back on, the bluetooth audio on my android wouldn't connect. 2. So now, my connection is miracast on hdmi/top usb and unplugged bottom usb alone. But the HDMI is still grayed out on my unit. I haven't checked the HDMI extender to see if its bad, but I did test the miracast unit on my tv and it works. Is there a setting I need to turn on? 3. Just out of curiousity, I thought I heard y'all mention that the top is apple and bottom is andoid in one of your many video, but I may not heard it correctly. Can you comment on this? Despite the miracast working, I do want to have my android work with this unit at its fullest potential. My friend has an iphone and he uses carplay to utilize the maps without the miracast.

ethan'stank the top USB is for CarPlay and software updates, USB 2 is for Android Auto. You do need to go into the smartphone settings and choose IPhone or Other. Then choose USB not Bluetooth.

Great video I just install NEX 4100 today. I tried to do the mirror link with the HDMI. For somehow it didn't work but the Android auto in the USB2 work great. great setup how to. thanks. Is there any kind of video playback stutter when being viewed or any king of vocal lag like BT video transmission tends to do on low latency equipment causing vocals/sounds to not sync with video playback. I know mirror link was horrendous for all of those issues. Is miracasting truly HDMI direct type quality? Really want to know if it's just a better video quality to just be HDMI from Android phone rather than miracasting. Thanks so much.

It is only as good as your phone and service. With that being said, our test phone is crap and it works great. The best quality you can get is an ok 720. The radio screens are only 800/480

I really appreciate your KZbin channel/videos. I am a professional auto technician with over 25 years experience. I have been using them to learn about how to use my new pioneer AVH-X490BS & all the great features it is capable of. I am doing a full system. Amp, capacitor, speakers, sound deadening, sub woofer, rear camera, and the Mira cast from Belkin. I do have a question about the one and only USB on the back of the head unit. I plan on making this all look factory installed when done. I plan on using a dash mounted remote USB & AUX port. I was thinking of using a 4 port 3.0 USB HUB to split the one USB on the back of the head unit to power the Miracast dongle & charge my phone when needed. Is this asking too much of the pioneer AVH-X490BS USB port for power requirements?

Sindian H the Android Auto will be better at what it does- phone, text, map, and music. The MiraCast is only for screen sharing and is not a seamless action. You have to want to do MiraCast and go through the setup.

Here is a question for you: Can the HDMI input be directed to the rear screen ? i.e. say I have the AV out directed to the rear screen via a idatalink Maestro AVCHI harness? Having the screen output from the phone just on the head unit is not that useful when driving.

Whats preferred, ChromeCast or Mirror cast...WHats the difference? I know setting up ChromeCast took 2 cell hones and need a hotspot. So this is atractive in that regard, but which has a better quality sound signal? When using ChromeCast as a mirror it is less quality sound that is significant, noticable. When using Chrome Cast via the app itself like KZbin, the sound is super clean and superb. I am a new Droid convert, and have not looked back at my iPhone 5s! :-) I know you are a iphone guy Mr White@

MiraCast is definitely the hot stuff. We actually did a Cromecast video but never released. We did not like the fact that you need a wifi hotspot plus your phone, or you had to turn your phone into a hotspot. The dongles have wifi built into them and works great, they sound and looks good too. This is the one thing I wish the iPhone would do that it does not. Yes, iPhone for life.

I bough an ANYCAST w/ wifi attached. I bought the dongle separate because it didn't come with one. I tested it out on my TV and everything works fine. I have a NEX 7200, the HDMI option will not highlight. Also does the parking brake have to be engaged in order to highlight that feature? Any help is greatly appreciated thanks!!

James H no on the break but you will need it to watch. It may be looking for authentication from the radio and not finding it. Not all dongle work with these radios

What's the current status on this? I'm installing a 8200NEX in 2019. I got curious and looked at video output from my phone to the headunit. It's pretty weird since the H/U get's all pissy if you're using USB vs bluetooth vs the HDMI cable. Some BS about 'appradio' and 'avicsync' blah blah. I started looking into USB-c to HDMI adapters (the MHL) which is basically the corded version of the Miracast here. The 8200NEX install manual mentions nothing about Miracast, but gives instructions for using their MHL kit. I go to check that out, and all the reviews on Amazon say it doesn't work. What's the current solution for getting video to display ?

Excellent vid. This is the best way to stream everything from an android (miracast enable) smartphone to you car head unit. GPS, KZbin, VLC, Kodi, TuneIn, games, etc. Some miracast dongle require sufficient voltage from the usb to power the dongle, i would suggest for those who wants to do this need to make sure to do proper survey before buying any miracast wifi enable dongle. once again, EXCELLENT VID!!!

JR Armstrong the Belkin Miracast dongle connects to the phone over a closed circuit wifi to just connect to the 2 units. It then lets the phone do whatever you want it to do. It can connect to the cell network and stream any video source to the radio screen. You just have to make sure your phone is Miracast compatible.

Aaron, the Belkin creates it's own wifi, unlike the chromecast which relies on a wifi network or, in a phone application, a hotspot. The Belkin basically is a wifi network that your phone connects to. The Microsoft dongle works the same way. Chromecast requires a wifi network to work or you can use your primary phone to setup a hotspot, then connect a second phone to the Chromecast to tell the Chromecast to connect to the hotspot on your primary phone.

We have never had any luck with that cable that is why we do this. The wifi is just for pairing it to your phone.

iPhone can stream Netflix, Hulu, iTunes Movies and anything else that is displayed on your phone with the Apple Digital AV adapter connected to the HDMI port. Just like the video, you need a power supply to activate it. Once activated, you can safely disconnect the power supply. Obviously with the Digital AV Adapter, you're not wireless so you should pick up a long flat HDMI cable and Lightning cable.

Philip Schmelzer depends on the type of phone you have, iPhones need a lightning adapter, newer Samsung phones need a Miracast dongle, some Android phones still use MHL to hdmi.

LOLs...I got the audio working. My phone's volume for connected devices was turned down too low. I have it working now, the only thing seems to be that the video play back is suspect. It seems to cut in and out on an irregular basis? Could it be related to inconsistent power to the hdmi plug??

elitim22 in is not an internet connection, just an ad hock wifi communication network. You will still have full control of your phone and the internet over the cell network. That is how you watch Netflix

Just want to add something for anyone who wants to do miracasting to your car head unit. Downside: when an incoming call comes: the audio does not stream to the head unit (depending on the dongle brand and functionality, maybe). You have to answer to call the conventional way. The miracast connection might disconnect when you pick up the call. Happen to me with my miracast unit is connected to my car head unit. Everything has its pro's and con's, nothing is perfect. To me, its just a small issue. To reconnect back to the miracast dongle, depending on the phone, it will take 1 to 3 steps to reconnect. The miracast dongle i used does not need to key in a password, so it same time for me to reconnect.

When I connect amazon firetv to the hdmi port the applications are reproduced correctly. But when I try to play Kodi the black screen is blocked and the sound is heard but not video.It is best to disable a block of unknown applications. But I do not find anything like this. and that only happens when I connect the armazón firetv to the pionner radio.no on other computers.

+Michael Harris yes, as long has you have a wifi hotspot for it to connect to. It is built into the Miracast dongle

That's not true AVH- 4200 plays everything on my iPhone world star, KZbin HBO go starz maps waze and Google no problem at all. And switches back to car play after I unplug it. I have it installed in my 2004 Ford Expedition. So it does play everything on Apple just as good
