1. Use 15 tags as Redbubble suggests even though you can type in more. 2. Don't just add random tags, make sure to do the research on each tag as outlined in the steps below. 3. Type in your most obvious tags on the Redbubble search engine, you'll see a list of similar tags when you search. 4. Click on the top-selling items relating to your most obvious tags and see what tags they are using. 5. Use tags that have low competition if possible. 6. Use multi-word tags over single word tags. Redbubble will add the single words when you make a multi-word tag. 7. Consider SEO, Redbubble advertises a lot so use your main tags in the description of your product. 8. Research spelling and alternative words for the tags you use. Different countries use different spelling and words.

Hi these videos are really great and have inspired to enter the world of POD. One question I have do I get my design to rank higher up in the first few pages? Is this sales driven. Thanks again
@PassiveOwl4 жыл бұрын
By default, RB sorts by “most relevant” for customers. There are many factors taken into consideration that aren’t fully known, but these include how many sales you’ve had on the design and the tags/keywords used. Probably stuff like click through rate and conversion rate too. If customers sort by “best selling”, obviously it’ll be sales that result in you ranking :) there’s also an option to sort by “most recent” so if you’ve uploaded at the right time you’ll be at the top of the results for that. I’m doubtful that many customers use this. Glad you’ve been inspired by the vids! Good luck.

Just wanted to thank you for the valuable information in this video! I'm also wondering if Merch By Amazon keyword system does work the same

Cheers! It's similar in the sense that it uses keywords, but different in many ways as MBA doesn't have a tags system like RB. They use the keywords in the title and description(s) to rank your product.

I have a question Owl, Let's say I found a niche with low competition (200 to 400 results) How many designs and variations will I upload? and how should I change the variations ? (if it's a quote should I rewrite it? or just change the design and the Font? and also would you change Tags and Keywords ? from variation to another?)
@tinam.98104 жыл бұрын
I'd love to hear (actually read) the answer too :)
@PassiveOwl4 жыл бұрын
Interesting question. There are a million niche ideas so it's impossible to answer accurately. I can give you my perspective though, which is this... The designs and variations depends on the demand - is there actually demand to justify creating so many alternatives styles? If there IS so much demand that it's worth doing it, then you can do as many as you like. I know some people are into creating tens of not hundreds of variations of the same design to try and get more out of it. They change them in various ways, whether it's designing for the same niche but with different themes (e.g. teachers on halloween, teachers on their birthday, teachers at Christmas, etc), or the same theme but different niches (e.g. X is my superpower, what's yours? - replace X with a multitude of niches). Tags and keywords might be the same other than a few adjustments. There are honestly so many variables in your question that the answer could go on for 50 pages and still not cover 1% of it. We have a phrase for that in the UK - "How long is a piece of string?". It's impossible to say without more information, unfortunately.

@PassiveOwl4 жыл бұрын
Honestly, nobody can say yes or no as it depends on results that are unpredictable. I would say that it's a worthwhile use of time to optimise tags. Maybe narrow down the designs to those which you think will be most popular and update them rather than the whole 200.

I have a question. I started using Canva from your recommendations. I use Canva Pro. I have been reading many articles that say that if you use their images then you cant sell them on Tshirts without a license. Only if you upload your own images. Do you know the actual answer to this?
@PassiveOwl4 жыл бұрын
Hey. This is the statement from Canva: “𝘼𝙡𝙡 𝙛𝙧𝙚𝙚 𝙢𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙖 𝙤𝙣 𝘾𝙖𝙣𝙫𝙖 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙗𝙚 𝙪𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙛𝙧𝙚𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙣𝙤𝙣𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙪𝙨𝙚”. The articles might be referring to the third party images that Canva uses from places like Pexels and Pixabay. Always check the elements you use as licenses vary since they use wide range of resources. Contact them if you're unsure. Link to full info here: about.canva.com/license-agreements/

I use 15-20 every time and usually only or two words. I still see best selling ones having massive spams and long sentences in tags. I dunno i just don't trust what they tell us.
@PassiveOwl4 жыл бұрын
Many of the best sellers (of all time) were uploaded long ago when there weren't as many designs on RB so you'll notice that they aren't optimised at all. They were also uploaded before RB made the changes to crack down on tag spam because customers will have been getting a bad experience with all sorts of irrelevant designs appearing in their search results. It's not in Redbubble's interest to give false info about how to tag since they make money when we make sales :) now RB is more saturated (partly my fault - soz) so you have to be on point with tag optimisation to compete.
@GelliElli4 жыл бұрын
@@PassiveOwl Yea i see that.. Maybe Redbubble should adress the old ones with bad/spam tagging. It's your responsibility to make changes if the platform does and not just leave it. I know many may have just left the shop and are not active but that's just too bad for them then, they still come to collect the profit..
@PassiveOwl4 жыл бұрын
Yep in an ideal world they would, but if they're making a fortune for Redbubble, I don't think they'll be too concerned.

I don't think adding fewer tags is better for your sales on RB. I have tried this with a couple designs but they get less views/sales as products with 25+ tags on them. I think the more specific you are with tagging, the better chance your niche tags are being used by a buyer. Using the standard tags like "cow" "dog" "happy" are way too saturated.

Thanks for this useful content! I followed your advice (mentioned in your "old" videos) to upload designs on other websites too, to increase my visibility. I tried to do it today on Teepublic. In spite of uploading the size suggested by them (5000pxx5500px) I got a message that it's not big enough for all their products. Do you know what size is the most optimal there or there are also other criteria that a beginner like me didnt get yet? Thank you so much in advance :)
@PassiveOwl4 жыл бұрын
Hey Tina. Thanks for your comment. Strangely enough I’m releasing a video about TeePublic today! Lots of info in there so check back. They do suggest 5000x5500 so that’s strange. When I’ve uploaded in that size it’s been fine - no error message. Does the design you’ve uploaded appear on the wall art? I believe that’s the largest product. If so, then it should be fine and maybe it’s an issue on their end, unless they’ve updated one of the products without saying anything 🤷🏼♂️

Scary Halloween? 174k spooky - 220k results. great, it's definitely will help for a new listing in 2020
@PassiveOwl4 жыл бұрын
Hi there. I think you might've taken things the wrong way. I was demonstrating the technique, not giving you examples of tags to use. People who've been on Redbubble for years will have an advantage in their particular niche, yes, which is why it's important to find a niche that you can compete in. The cute/halloween keywords were just examples I could use to show how to investigate tags. I would hope that as a result of your research, you wouldn't be going after vague tags like "cute halloween" and "scary halloween". The technique is what I was demonstrating, not the tags. You have to do the work to find a suitable niche yourself rather than going after vague mainstream tag with hundreds of thousands of results.
