Food Saver used to be the #1 vacuum sealer available. I had two previously and that lasted 5-15 years. The newer ones just don’t compare. The biggest mistake Food Saver did, was change the tubing/accessory/port. The older models were the gray and the newer are the green. The gray ones were workhorses. The green, newer ones break easily and are a struggle to remove and insert. Plus you can’t interchange the two. If you have the Food Saver vacuum lids (gray adapters on ends) they will NOT fit any Food Saver with a green port. And yet Food Saver continues to sell the wonderful vacuum lids accessories but do not explain which ones go on what. Big Mistake!

Wish I'd read this sooner- just received new Food Saver machine with green port. On Amazon it popped up to also order the canning jars vacuum sealer with hose ( no details on which machine it worked with ) so of course I thought they'd work together - but you are so right- the jar sealer with gray end has a different plug that doesn't fit the green port! Buyers beware!!!

Tried to use one of the bags today . I made sure the bag was sealed tightly. Went to use the hose which is attached to the machine.....NOTHING. Exactly/step by step what buttons do you push...does the machine have to be locked or unlocked...which button do you push next? ETC....Please! I spent over 200.00 and I can't use one of the attachments? It won't work?

Just bought a foodsaver for the first time and have yet to figure out how to use the tool to remove air from a zip top back with the special circle. Where can I find clear instructions? That show step by step and in particular, what the part that you push down on the bag should look like so that it will work?

My foodsaver came with the zip bags and automatic adapter but that adapter doesn't vacuum anything out. I'm putting it on the oval on the bag and pressing 'Accessory'. Nothing happens but the vacuum sound, no air is removed from the zipped bag.

You cannot buy a replacement hose. I Spent over $300 on containers and vacuum sealer for foodsaver to tell me they cannot replace the $15 hose that broke first use. Unbelievable.

You are right....but I just got the green tipped handheld sealer with clip in the mail today...(spoke to breanne and got it FREE for all the grief this had caused)..it's cheap and flimsy but I think it will at least be usable.

I don't detach the hose from the machine, only the jar sealer. Less wear and tear because it takes so much manipulation to get it securely attached.

Buy break bleeder to manually (pump) seal jars. Around $20 It is a car tool. Stick tip of brake bleeder directly into plastic jar top hole.

The suction port for the accessory works but as soon as suction stops the canister just refills with air. Any suggestions? It's new so it shouldn't be the gasket.

Why did the person who edited this video feel they needed to speed it up?? I had to watch it 3 times not because it's rocket science but because it was sped up unnecessarily and that's why more than 50% of the people are giving you a thumbs down. Terrible marketing and customer support.

I just bought a starter kit yesterday from Costco. The accessory hose attaches to the bottom left side of the lid. The instructions say to pry the rubber cover off to attach the hose but it won't come off! What is the secret to removing this cap? You would think the instructions would be more clearer.

exactly - I tried insterting the accessory hose into the port without removing the cap as it seemed the instruction for a "cap" removal was about the left-hand side accessory holder. The accessory port cap probably needs to come off as nothing happened with the vacuum sealibg attachment. But, it's hard to remove that cap!

I literally just figured it out 2 minutes ago. I had to pull and twist... to the point i thought it would break. At that point, I didn't care, though. It's off, and i won't waste my money on bags or containers.

@@shryder570 Wow! Thanks. I could not figure out how to get it off, and tried several times, but didn't want to break it. I was fortunate to find two cannisters and measuring cup at a thrift store (for seven dollars). Just tried it, and it works perfectly!

Since this video didn’t say how to use the accessory, I had to figure it out myself. I pulled the retractable accessory from the device and placed it over the circle on the bag. When I pushed down and hit the “accessory” button it worked and automatically stopped.

Finally had success with the bags. First, I had Kim Edwards' info that the hose clicks in. I got it to do that (my old Foodsaver was just tight, no click). Then, it vacuumed, but not that fast, so I checked to make sure I had fully sealed it at the top and I found an area not completely sealed. After I corrected that, I had success.

Hi - Tuen to operate. Choose Sous Vie - put the attachment on the round circle - push vacuum and press the top of the accessory. You need to push the button on the top of the attachment - then when fully vacuumed, push the seal button and on the circle, the seal will be closed off. Make sure the zip lock is completely sealed before you tempt this or your bag will not be usable.

This video offers zero help to me. My attachment hose has the same color ends. Which one goes to the machine and which one goes to the jar? I had to wait forever to get it and now it won't work. Nothing will seal and it doesn't sound like the hose is getting any suction at all.

I have the VS4500 and the instruction book has no explanation on how to connect the jar accessory sealer to the machine. the hose keeps falling out of the accessory port. I have to hold it in with my left hand while I press start with my right hand then quickly pick up the accessory after pressing start to put it onto the ziplock back but nothing happens. There is no vacuum happening. Is there a seperate switch I need to activate?

Same here, except I have a different model (FM2900), the hose nozzle is all loosey goosey when I try to plug it into the accessory port, nothing near a click or seeming like it would make an air tight seal. It feels like I got wrong attachment

Just watched this about 9x's. Before the urge to throw this at my microwave took over, I decided to try it once more, and it dawned on me: PUSH the thing into the thing until it clicks (push the green piece into the hole that's ON the sealer machine until it clicks...), then, like instinct prob told you the other 9x's, put the other end on the suction-hole, THEN turn knob/lever to Operate, then vac/seal. It finally worked... Ok, I'll keep it! HTH

I bought the foodsaver just so that I could use the jar sealer accessory, and it doesn't work, AT ALL. The green end of the tube is not made to fit snugly in the accessory port, and even when I press it down, no vacuum action is happening on the jar lid at all. What a waste of time order this junk and have to send it back, I wish I had read all these other reviews saying the same thing before (not) buying it!

Exactly same here. the green end of the tube has to be held in, it will not stay in by itself ...and even then it won't seal my mason jars. (new jar lids too)

I think you just pull the bottom off. Go to the FoodSaver Accessories web page. There you can order see and order the two separated parts. I just ordered the sealer and a set of replacement parts. Will know, for sure soon.

Buyer beware, mason jar accessory sold (either compatible or original - all the same) may not work with your specific model number, they have a different hose attachment for some model numbers, but they are currently unavailable with no date of resolve. Save your money do not purchase FoodSaver if your ultimate goal is sealing jars.

@@jamesdriggers2011 The Hose attachment does work, it just took me a while to figure it out. On my model it is that green plastic part that has the hose clip/gathering part on it that fits onto the port on the machine. good luck!

@@raincoast9010 mines gray on both sides. It goes in until it stops, but outs not deep enough to depress the block and allow the suction. (trust me bro, it don't go no deeper. I broke a sweat trying to get it to click in! I'm 5'11" 250lbs, not dainty!) I think I discovered the hidden secret though the are different hoses because food saver sucks and has different accessory ports on different models, but doesn't tell you that on the packaging anywhere.

@@traceyfoster5378 no I messaged foodsaver and they claim it's a hose issue and I need to buy a new hose... but I already have the one that came with the unit, and the one that came with my jar sealer and both of them will not budge the white bead thingy. I even used a small metal rod to depress the white bead thing and it wont budge. Food saver has screwed us over once again.

@@PanAmPatti Hey Trish I figured mine out and its a real pain... you have to press REALLY hard on the unit and hold it so no air escapes as well the whole time it's sealing. It doesn't need to be pressed in all the way but it definitely will break if you slip... think firm pressure instead of forced pressure. I also had to hold the hose around the seal where it enters and make sure no air escapes as well. The jar sealer system seems to be very inconsistent but when it works it works kind of well for quick sealing... I just ended up saying screw it I paid for this jar sealer and I'm gonna use it! And forced it! I am totally scared of breaking my foodsaver everytime I use the hose though

Al H. Thanks for the suggestion but we try it with pressure and not forcing but that didn’t work so that my husband tried to force again and that’s when it broke. I finally found a hose that had a green one on one end and a dark gray one on the other end and it worked. the dark gray one gets used to connect to the black oval thing a dinghy. The green one went into the machine. Looking at the pointed end on each of these it was definitely thicker than the ones that came with the machine. I’m not sure if my old machine use these or what but at least I can get the FoodSaver special Ziploc baggies to work now. The machine I’m using now is a FM 2100 or is it FS 2100 anyway it’s not the newest model by any means.

There is no hose in the mason jar lid attachment and the Foodsaver appliance hose is attached to a device for vacuuming containers, not jars. Can I remove the container device from the hose?

I found that the regular one doesn't work with the quart or pint jars because of the neck slope. It works with the 4, 8, & 12 oz ones BUT the mouth and lids of either size must be pristine. Even a hint of drygoods or excess liquid is kryptonite

i have a machine I bought 2 weeks ago and it will not vacuum with the hand held part worked for 2 vacuums, I think this machine is a piece of crap. I shouldn't have bought any it. considering the 1st one i had worked for 2 regular seals and I had to return. Every bag i sealed was sucked in until the next morning then full of air.

I figured it out. (Mine had no instructions. I do not know what anything is called). There was a gadget at the end of the tube with 2 holes -this goes in the foodsaver machine. (Check machine for 2 hole connector) Then the metal insertion piece on tube goes into hole on plastic lid sealer gadget. Do not put rings on jars until sealed. s Push vacuum seal button (mine was on outside machine) then push small button inside. Machine runs. Whan machine shut off pull out insertion tube, remove plastic top & check seal by gently lifting jar by lid. Then add rings. (The vacuume seal button also turns off my machine, should there be a problem). If jar doesn't seal, repeat process. Had 4 failures because a connector came loose.

The plug that plugs in to the accessory port is extremely port design and will always break, paired with the fact the plug is not replaceable ( you have to buy the entire plug hose and adapter) it seems it is only designed that way so it provides an income stream to foodsaver/sunbeam.😡

I had to throw out my old Food Saver because the rubberized coating on the outside dissolved and turned to glue, and not because it quit working. Now, I can't get my mason jar sealer to work because you've changed the port on the machine. Are you kidding me? I've got 3 hoses that came with the different attachments that I've purchased over the years, perhaps you folks could send me new hoses. I wont hold my breath though, FFS!

Same thing here. When I first got the machine I had to call & they discovered they sent me the wrong hose (gray) for the machine so they sent me a green one. Worked for about a week & then , even with holding with pressure at the machine, it wouldn't seal... The bag sealer part works but I bought many of the expensive containers of theirs....plus I had some old, huge , dark grey ones with a previous FoodSaver machine & can no longer seal those either. An expensive machine like SHOULD WORK. I'm not happy with this company & wanted to seal so many things for my huge freezer.

The port on the machine seemed to have been a problem from comments made on this thread a year or more ago. Maybe that's why your old hose attachment won't work on your new machine.

I do not find any of the instructional videos helpful. They are as another reviewer said more of an infomercial. I also found out that the containers on the website are discontinued. It was suggested by their chat agent I go to a third party seller to find containers. Not a satisfactory answer.
