How to use the AuRACLE Electronic Gold Tester

@manoelramon The AUracle uses an electrical test to determine what metal is being checked. Different metal will give different readings. Unfortunately, very heavy gold plating (on the order of several microns) can be a problem for any electronic tester. If you suspect a heavy gold plated piece, file a spot then test that spot with your tester.

That is where using the file to get through the surface comes into play. Any kind of heavy plating can interfere with any brand of electronic gold tester. Using a file to cut through the outer layer will give you much more accurate results.

The short answer is yes and no. Heavy electroplating has the potential of confusing ANY gold tester. This is why it is always recommended that you file the surface of any piece before testing to insure the best results you can get.

@davidhays67 If your test does fall in the blue lights between karats, then it is likely that the piece is an "in between" karat (12, 16, etc) with an accurate reading. The AUracle what designed with standard karats in mind so the green lights will be more accurate.

As with any product there are people who love it and there are peolpe who hate it. We have had very positive results with the AUracle. The Testing Probe will last for upwards of 5000 tests. Depending on how much testing you do, that could be shorter or longer than a month. If you leave the cap off of the probe, you run the risk of it drying out which will shorten its life.

You can use the AUracle and other electronic gold testers on gold dental appliances that have been removed. Those items are made just like jewelry so they can be tested in the same way. The testers do not take into account any other items that may be combined with the appliances such as steel or ceramic. They will test ony the gold portion. I have heard stories of people selling their own "partials" for cash because they contained gold.

The AUracle and other electronic gold testers were NOT designed to test ore of any kind. I don't know how it would test such items and would not recommend using a gold tester for that purpose.

Hi I am thinking of buying this tester but how about "Palladium" and the other metals of the Platinum Family? I have a couple Palladium rings and was wandering how it would test that metal? Have you tested those metals with this tester?

would it be able to test say a 14K chain plated in black PVD or Black Rhodium?

Hello it seems like a great tool. But for me as a professional jeweler can I test with it gold bars??? What is the maximum weight that could be used for testing?? Can I test a 1 kilo of gold on this plate?

Sorry, but this is not at all the type of tester for gold bars. Use this tester for individual pieces of jewelry.

do you have to calibrate with 14k when takeing out of box or can you calibrate with 22k ?

When calibrating, you do have to use a piece that is 14K plumb gold.

It is my understanding that electronic components are gold plated not solid gold. That combined with the very small size of those pieces would make the Auracle the wrong tester for the job.
