Skip, have explored G530 using many videos, but your series on the basics remains superhelpful. Thanks. So much to learn still in XP11, and XP12 is on the horizon. Hope all is well with you in 2022.

Skip, I'm going to watch every one of your videos tonight. I am learning tons! I can't wait to finish the videos and start a GPS navigation flight. Also -- Thanks for comparing FXS with X Plane. I've been an FSX pilot for many years and when you compare the two side-by-side it really helps me understand X Plane Nav and GPS that much better. Thank you for making these videos.

Freddiefly Great videos helped me a lot as a newbie easy to remember the detail, the fact that there is just the right amount of info and time element involved make the information easy to remember. Many thanks from one who was just about to give up on flight simming. Keep up the good work now for the rest of the series of your tutorials.

Perfect. thanks!! I actually caught myself learning it in the 3rd tutorial right after I asked the question !! Awesome! ! That really helps when you have all the flight plans already made in .fms format. Awesome!!

Hi tgmjr, Great glad it did the trick. Speaking of tricks, since it's much easier to create and save a flight plan in an FMS you can load a airplane that has an FMS, create the flight plan, then open the airplane with the Garmin 530 and load the saved program that you made with the FMS. Probably save a lot of time, the 530 is not fun to program in X Plane using the knobs, lots of clicking etc. By the way, if you have any suggestion for videos I'm trying to decide what to do next so let me know if you think a video needs a remake because I left something out or if you have an idea for a new one that would help me a lot. Is there anyway in x plane to upload an .fms flight plan into the Garmin? For example, in the x plane Eclipse there is an "LD" button on the FMC, you press LD, and it automatically takes you to the x plane resources, flight plan folder, and you just select the flight plan in the .fms format you want, and it's loaded, waypoints and all!! Just wondering if the Garmin has that function or you HAVE to put-in all the waypoints, etc.???? Thanks!! The videos are great!!

Hi tgmjr, Glad you like the videos hope they are helping you! Yes you can load flight plans you have created and saved. Watch this video: "How to use the garmin 530 GPS in X Plane 10 tutorial part 3", towards the end I explain how to load a flight plan. Hope this helps, let me know. Blessings, Skip

PlanG is awesome, mostly because its user friendly. I tried for flight sim, other GPS tracking software that works with X Plane, and honestly, PlanG is the best, its so easy to use, create a flight plan, set waypoints, uses a GPS map, tracks your flights, give you a flight plan, stays on top your X Plane screen, you can size the map and plan to whatever size to keep out of the viewing area, and you can see your location constantly, give you verbal notices of altitudes and waypoints. I love it, and again I tried other systems, but it just works best and most importantly its user friendly. You can KZbin PlanG and check it out, thanks again!!

Hi Cessna Pilot, You asked a question regarding entering multiple fixes, since there is not "reply" option with your comment I'm answering here. Yes, you can put multiple fix (waypoints) in the Garmin 530. If you watch my other videos I go over the basics of programming the 530. I suggest you watch the video on flying a flight plan here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJOknZ6YhdaGqc0 Let me know how you make out. Blessings, Skip

+BiGGiE Hi BiGGiE, Welcome to X Plane! When there is GPS such as the Garmin 530 COM1 and NAV1 will be on the Garmin and COM2 & NAV2 will be in the radio stack, would be nice if they were labeled but are not. Hope this helps. Blessings, skip

@@WEHVideos What is Comm 1 used for and what is comm 2 used for? Also what is the use of the "Standby" frequency. Can you give examples? Thx
@WEHVideos5 жыл бұрын
Hi Peppe, Comm 1&2 are communication radios used for talking to controllers and other pilots. They both do the same thing just nice to have a back up and there are time when having two radios make radio work easier, you can set them up for quick frequency changes. That is what the standby frequency is for. You have the active frequency set and communicate on that frequency. The standby frequency allows you to have another frequency ready to use that you will be switching to at some time. To switch frequencies you just plush the "flip flop" button and the standby frequency is move to the active frequency and and active is moved to the standby. That way you don't have to spend time dialing in another frequency. This my not see like much but believe me pilots can get very busy in certain situations and having radios set up for frequencies they knows they will be using helps a lot in stressful situations. Hope this helps. My next video will cover using the COM and NAV radios so subscribe so you can be notified when the video comes out. You also might find help in my beginners series, check it out here: kzbin.info/aero/PLjqSrWIZDAi8IsbmFdGfJBVJ7jYSxAt26 Blessings, skip

I use PlanG to create and track the course. It's easy and exports the complete plan to .fms format and saves it in PlanG format also. So it's quick and easy.

+tgmjr tgmjr I've not heard of PlanG but I don't do much flying with GPS since in real life I fly a Cessna 172N and I'm lucky to have NAV radios don't have any autopilot in that airplane. Sooooooooooo, that's how I fly in X Plane, most the time anyway, my little 172N, well not mine really I rent it along with my instructor :-) I still will look into PlanG, Thanks for that information I'm sure others would like to know about that!
