Great! Thank you. Just started simming a Dash-7 with this GPS and Tutorial # 1 tells me what I need to know to fly direct from A to B. I look forward to progressing through the next lessons, -and- learning how to use the older GPS you talk about. As Mr. Rawlins said, this is the best youtube on this device. Again, many thanks for enhancing my x-plane experience.

Hi skip. Thanks. Working my way through your tutorials on GPS navigation. I am flying Cessna 172 in XP11. I notice the plane has two GPS units, one on top of the other-- the Garmin 530 and the Garmin 430? (away from the cockpit). What's the reason for that? What's the difference between the two units? I don't think you have done anything with the 430, so maybe that one is an older unit? I figure learning one well is better than trying to learning both. Also, maybe with Plane Maker, I can remove the 430, and put an FMC in that panel location. Your advice much appreciated.

Skip, I did some poking around and did learn more on question above. I understand you don't use GPS much, but which one do you prefer personally ---430 or 530?
@WEHVideos3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ron, I can't really tell you all the differences between the 430 and 530 they both do pretty much the same thing with the obvious difference being the map. I almost never fly with Autopilot when using either of these, I just use them for reference when flying manually for direction and distance to waypoints or airports while flying Pilotage and Dead Reckoning and then only when I'm off course or worse lost. Both are very good and depending on the flight will determine which to use. If flying in a high traffic area with lots of airports around (San Francisco area say) the 530 is a good choice because you can see the different air spaces displayed on the map. Sounds like you are using the 172 that comes with XP. Not really sure why they have both but that's a real luxury, these are very expensive. I found a used 530 for almost $7,000 and the 430 around $4000 so probably not to many airplane with both I'm guessing. So which one? If you learn the 530 well the 430 will be a piece of cake :-) Try the both and see which one you like, I don't prefer one over the other the big difference would be do I need the map. Hope this helps :-) Blessings, skip

@@WEHVideos Indeed I'm using default C172 that came with XP11. I couldn't figure out whether XP had some deep reason for putting two GPS units in a small plane, so I sought a candid opinion from a flier like you. Thanks for going the extra mile on this one.

Excellent explanation ...there is only one issue im facing... My GPS unit does not enlarge and open in a separate window upon clicking the center of the screen... How do I enable that?
@WEHVideos6 жыл бұрын
Hi Shray, Thanks hope it helped. I afraid I don't know why your GPS would not open, you should be able to double click the GPS screen and it should open. I assume you have the latest version of the airplane and X Plane, other than that I'd reinstall X Plane and see if that helps. Sorry, that's all I can thing to do. Blessings, skip

Skip, Do you have any idea what the gps and mfd operation is for the Cirrus that comes with XP10.41? I tried to direct to Jacksonville from Va and it sent me out west. I haven't found an instruction manual yet and I don't know the model of instruments that this one is emulating. Thanks :)
@WEHVideos9 жыл бұрын
+Tom A Hi Tom, Hi Tom, I've not flown the Cirrus so not sure if I can help. One thing to check is make sure you have the autopilot turned on and the correct source selected, NAV1, NAV2, OR GPS. You can enter a flight plane but you have to activate the plan for it to work. So next time make sure the source is set to GPS, Flight Director set to Auto (not ON) and then click the "LOC" button this should get you flying to the first waypoint you programmed in your flight plan. Let m,e know how it goes. Blessings, skip

+WEH Videos thanks, after practice this is getting much better for me. I think I just did what you did in another video and put in the wrong airport. This is fascinating stuff, I just got into simming as a hobby. I am so amazed at the radio based navigation capabilities of aircraft, I had no idea they were so effective. I mean it makes sense, but this is a really cool thing to explore, Your videos are really good at explaining the concepts. Thanks! Tom

+Tom A Hi Tom, thanks! Keep at it it is a lot of fun. I don't remember putting in the wrong airport in a video, which one was it, did I explain the mistake or is it something I missed completely??? Blessings, skip

+Tom A Hi Tom, Sorry for the delay in answering for some reason your comment ended up it a spam folder and i didn't see it. I watched the video and don't see what you are talking about. We flew to Redding Municipal airport VOR using NAV1 set to 108.40 in that video it all looks correct to me?? Are you referring to the "to/from" portion of the video? Blessings, skip

Hi Steve, Glad to hear you liked the video and thanks for watching. Have you thought of downloading the videos you like using something like KZbin Downloader or other free apps for downloading from KZbin? I find it very helpful when I'm trying to learn something off a video, it's much faster "rewinding" to a place you want to watch again when the video is on my computer. Blessings, skip
