Excellent video for my Cubase reference files. Is there a reference chart or cheat sheet that tells us what each value means for each parameter? I finally absorbed the fact that value 1 is pitch and value 2 is velocity on the note parameter, but don't have a clue of what it means on other parameters.

Maybe the best 15 min about the LOGICAL EDITOR so far - THANKS A LOT !!! One thing I become aware of when seeing this video: I'm often surprised by the option you can choose from if you select a certain value before. It would help me a lot (and maybe I'm not the only only ...) if I had a manual (or PDF) with all the different values and options you can choose from in the logical editor . Or what do other think about that? .... I just looked at my already existing manual (C Pro 9.5 - german in my case - page 905 ff) - and there you have it: ALL these options are listed here!!! So it is just time to open the manual again. ... and you Steinberg-guys have done the job already !!!

Excellent video indeed! Q: Is there a way (or a Cubase 10.5 Pro direct funktion) to divide a miditrack (instrument track) into 2 new tracks by a split note? F.e. I would like to have a fast function (shortcut-able) to separate a piano track into left and right hands by using f.e. C3 as a splitpoint? Thans in advance!

Not sure about your requirements but the extract function at 8:03 sounds close to doing what you describe.

This has to be the most Illogical Editor I have used. The commands are like advanced Computer programming. For this sort of scripted editing,Reaper would be the way to go as it has SWS scripts for everything and the Scripts tell you in plain language ,what they do,not Computer tech garble like Cubase's Logical Editor. Why Value 1 when it is PItch? Why not have Pitch listed instead to make it less confusing??? The Pull your Hair Out Editor more like it.

In 2024 thi first part of this pideo (about randomizing velocities) is not valid anymore. I wish to randomize each piece of midi drum kit separately. Unfortunatelly I can't copy these settings as they don't exist in Cubase 13...

Being new to Cubase, I jumped in at the deep end and grabbed Cubase Pro12. I needed to accent every 4th not. This tutorial showed me how. Thank you so very much.

EXCELLENT Vid! How would you select, for example, 5 bars of 1/16th kicks, and de-select every other one, so that I can move it, change velocity, etc? If I choose D#2, for example, it'll affect every other MIDI note on D#2, when I only want my selection affected. How would I do this?

Good Lord....I've been diving into the Logical Editor. I made a preset "Select 1st Notes" It didn't do anything. I just watched this after I got home and saw that I had Transform set in the Logical Editor instead of Select. Can't wait to get back tomorrow morning and try this. Thanks Greg!

Dear Greg, thanks for all the videos and help you are giving to us... I have a specific question for you. I am using a breath controller for expression. Although due to the limitations of midi and poor resolution in steps, i can actually hear the staircase effect. After a lot of search i found dissolve cc, and thin out data functions... But i need exactly the opposite, how can i populate the cc data so that cubase adds the steps. For example from 64 to 74 it simply adds the rest of the increments, smoothing out the curve? Please tell me this is possible :P Thanks.

Thanks. I must get back into using this. Back in the Atari days, when we could only edit MIDI, I used this and the list editor quite a lot. I'd forgotten how powerful it was as an alternative to using the list and key editors to perform certain tasks automatically :-)

Many great real life examples. Thanks! Side Note: If you record all your jams in MIDI and think something worth revisiting happened, you can hit something to mark that spot: High C, Low A, special foot pedal, whatever. Then you can use the logical editor to go back and find it... a big time saver once you've accumulated hundreds (thousands?) of hours of material.

Having thousands of hours of material in a single project sounds a little crazy. Otherwise, you'd be needing an external content manager of some sort, I would think. With lots of meta-data, tags, etc. Cubase has a media browser that can work for audio-clips, if you render them to a common library folder, but I'm not sure about midi-events. I always record new sessions in new projects...
@davidmcnamara7928
@davidmcnamara7928 6 жыл бұрын
Stephen Borntrager True, you can’t easily manage thousands of hours of MIDI recordings in a single Cubase project. I record about a half hour of improvs on each track and then start a new one while disabling all older tracks to save CPU. You probably could handle hundreds of MIDI hours that way but I stop at 32 tracks (~16 hrs) and start a new project. After that I export it as a MIDI file to a folder... all tracks are combined into one MIDI file. I’m a programmer so I use either NAudio for .NET or Max to search for high C. The MIDI tracks have uniques names so once I find a high C section I can easily open the Cubase project and go right to that section.

Nice! Having the ability to create software is really convenient sometimes ;) I've considered trying to make a search tool, but I haven't actually done it yet. (NAudio looks like it will come in handy!) I'm going to have to clean up my projects one of these days anyway. As it stands now... I have to remember that 'that one clip' was in "Untitled-12" from "Cubase (5)", etc.
