Greg please is there a way to listen to effects such as Reverb or Auto-Tune in real-time without recording the effect to the track but just be able to monitor the effect while the singer is singing I know this can be done with direct monitoring but that is only if you're using a audio interface the supports direct monitoring like a lot of the Steinberg interfaces do the problem is with me I switched from a Steinberg interface to a waves digigrid audio interface with the DSP soundgrid plugins so when I go to my settings Cubase settings for the audio interface the direct monitoring is Greyed Out I've been trying to figure this out for months please is there a way to do this without using a Steinberg interface thank you please make a video about it
@gregondo376
@gregondo376 4 жыл бұрын
I am not familiar with the waves digigrid unfortunately. In general you do not want direct monitoring enabled as it passes the audio straight from the inputs to the outputs. If you want the audio to be processed with effects simply run the plug-ins as normal effects on inserts as sends. This could impose the latency of the plug-in itself. Interfaces with DSP can solve this problem by powering the plugins with onboard DSP. Different interfaces that have DSP have different ways to access the onboard DSP. The UR series can access its onboard DSP as an extension in the input channels or from the inspector. I think that the Apollo interfaces run as normal plug-ins. I am sure that waves can guide you on using their interface with a DAW that runs VST plug-ins for monitoring with the effects.

Would be awesome making custom icons for PLE placing them in the tools area for PLE functions, not only from key commands or midi controller. Its difficult to keep every command in the head. But having custom icons would make life easier.

Hi Greg, can you do a tutorial on how to set up a drum map from the drum map of external vst plugin? For example, Addictive Drums 2. I use Addictive's default drum map a lot and would like to set Cubase's equal to Addictive's, for faster and easier editing, instead of setting note by note, is that possible?

Hello, is there a way to re-order group channels in the export audio mixdown window? For instance, I built my template a few months ago, and I entered group channels in the order I preferred, therefore they are ordered this way when I export my stems. But now I've made some new changes to my template and added some new group channels, but now they are automatically set to the bottom of the export window. Is there a way to re-order these?

Hi Greg. In the logical editor I tried to run a macro to route selected tracks to a group channel. It routes only one track to the group. But when I run the macro separately, it works well. Please help me. Stay safe!!!

this is great but again, programmers are not using musical nomenclature making editing a lot more tedious than it need be. Not values should be represented as well, and they aren't.

Why doesn’t it come with tons of presets? It takes more then a few minutes to understand it. Took me too long to shuffle hi hat midi notes for instance. Can’t even remember how I figured that out.

That's what I thought!!! And the video doesn't show one important thing: SAVE all your actions as PRESETS !!! I think you can than assign a shortcut to every preset you saved in the logical editor.

They allow multiple elements to be grouped together. For example, you can choose audio files named bass and MIDI files named bass to be processed as a single process.

I'm trying to create a 10ms nudge to work on individual highlighted MIDI notes in the Editor. It seems I can make it work on the entire MIDI Part that's selected in the main zone, but not sure how to have it work just for the notes I've highlighted in the Editor. Any tips?

I figured it out. I was confusing the "Project Logical Editor" (under the Project menu) with the "Logical Editor" (under the MIDI menu). Pretty easy to mix those up! ;)

Hi Greg. So back in the old days with Cubase on Atari ST, I could save all track mute states on the function keys with shift+alt+F1-10 and recall them with just alt+F1 etc. So as I was cycling around 1 -9 I could recall complicated tracks mutes on the fly. Then if I liked the change I could recall the mutes previously set up and copy over that active track range. Its been suggested the PLE could achieve this, but I cant work it out at all how to set up whatever parameters. Don't have to be function keys, numeric keys would be ok of course… These days got more then ever tracks in the arrangement window and it used to be so easy to preview changes while cycling around and copy them out etc… be very grateful if you could set me straight how I might accomplish this old key command using this PLE… or do a special quick vid post on this... be really grateful.

This would have been kinda possible with 'save mixer snapshots' but mutes arent included there it seems. Heaven knows why not??

Is there a way to setup a preset that automatically colors track upon creating - dependent on keywords (such as drums, synth, etc)? I figured out how to do it after the tracks are created but I'd like to automate the process if possible.

that volume trim thing is a jaw dropper. Really nice (provided you have automated all the gains that matter). You could even make an auto-color based on track name I assume.

The Project Logical Editor allows you to specify filter conditions and combine them with actions. This way, you can, for example, search for all open folder tracks in your project and close them.

Thank you for this video but this thing is still so daunting after learning multiple times then forgetting. I've learned 4 times now how to do something as basic as play midi in a specific scale then i literally always forget after a month of not using and open ableton instead. If there's going to be something so complex it should at least have presets so we can see what everything corresponds too.. There's like 6 steps to get a scale lol It seems so unnecessary. "media type is equal to tempo etc..." ? What does that mean and who at Steinberg thinks of these things? Couldn't it just say "Adjust tempo" ??? or "set scale" lol
@gregondo376
@gregondo376 4 жыл бұрын
The MIDI logical editor and input transformer can handle scales quite easily. Just save a preset and you won't have to recreate it every time. You can even assign your own key commands to the presets.

This, as well as your other tutorials is helpful. Cubase’s PLE reminds me of SONAR’s Filter function which likewise was initially confusing until you got use to it. Maybe the Cubase developers can look at changing the PLE UI ( e.g. divide it vertically instead of horizontally) to make it less confusing. Input criteria in the Left panel, target output results in the Right.
@gregondo376
@gregondo376 4 жыл бұрын
I can see where that makes sense but the horizontal orientation is a familiar audio concept of signal flow where ins are over outs.

@gregondo376
@gregondo376 4 жыл бұрын
The logical editor would be better at that for MIDI data as opposed to the project logical editor. There are 2 tutorials which show this in the Q&A series on this channel. Look for one on the logical editor and one for introducing randomness into MIDI tracks.
@gerhardbinkele3753
@gerhardbinkele3753 4 жыл бұрын
Go to the MIDI PARAMETER TAB in the Inspector of a Midi or instrument Track. There you find options to randomize the position, the velocity and the length of Midi-events in this track (+/- x Ticks). That might be a better pace to do randomization in Cubase.

Hi Greg. I can see you are an expert with Steinberg products. I use Cubase and I' d have some questions to ask you particularly about the latency I get in my music productions using VST strings. The notes are correctly quantized but there is a delay during the playback which can be different depending on the notes. Is it possible to contact you or to get an answer about that? Thanks
@gregondo376
@gregondo376 4 жыл бұрын
Many string patches have a slow attack and can feel delayed in a musical context. You can sometimes adjust the attack to change the start of the sound. What exact sound and instrument is it?

Loved your last tip (macro to disable empty tracks). Unfortunately, after trying it out myself, Cubase could not undo the disabling action nor did it appear in the history. Had to revert to last saved version. It's little things like this that make Cubase more frustrating than it needs to be. :(

Why not try Project Logical Editor to select all disabled tracks and run enable track macro?

Try making another project logical editor preset. Function set to Select. In the Filter Target - Property, Condition-Property is set, Parameter 1 - is disabled. In the macro use the macro that triggers the Audio - Disable/Enable Track command.
