Im someone who has messed about playing songs with just straightforward chords on a beat up 30 odd year old acoustic for years. Never watched or had a guitar lesson my life. Then I stumbled upon Corey on you tube. Now I always thought lead was somthing other people played not me. But in just a Couple of months these lessons have totally opened up my playing. Working single note melody's into my strumming. Thanks so much. The way it's described and linked together is so easy to understand. Really given me the confidence that I can learn and play more than just chords. Like a door has been opened. Can't say thanks enough for this inspiration. 👌👌👌👍👍👍

Brilliant explanation Corey. It's so good to see you explain using the actual notes and not just pinky on the 5th 2nd fret etc. I understand this is how many learn but I had to learn the notes and their positions. It has taken me years.
@UmVtCg Жыл бұрын
Pinky on the blabla teaches nothing. It's like learning a monkey a trick. Understanding the notes and more importantly the intervals, and how these connect into the caged system (triads) and the scale.

Thank you for a really important video. Coming from someone who played acoustic guitar forever and only got into electric in the last couple years, these types of videos are very helpful making a meaningful transition from harmony to melody. I have seen so many instructors relate everything to minor keys because most blues is played with dominate 7th cords (a flat 7 of the major scale) and that works with minor pentatonic. It makes sense for ease, but then they are constantly giving confusing information of how to play over chord progressions and why some notes work and others don't rather than start at the major scale, like you did here, and talk about why certain scale degrees change rather than jumping into memorizing modes or boxes. I love the tension of those half steps that are left out of pentatonic. Any sus2 or sus4 wants to resolve because of that half step tension and it's easier to learn why when you think in terms of the major scale. I hope this video gets viewed a lot because I think it's a better starting point for a beginner than one focused on minor pentatonic.

Very useful to do a simple exercise before you practice...to learn all the notes on the fret board! You will be able to utilizing lessons like this much more easily. If you have to “figure” out where any specific note is, you can’t “target” that note on the fly. Like how this lesson is broken down. KISS

Ah i had a problem when I first learned the pentatonic. I was taught like you said the minor pent and thought that was the only pentatonic scale. And i learned it and loved it. But s bit later i heard about the major pent when I was learning blues and had not idea what was happening. I think it’s important to see why they go hand in hand instead of just rushing the learning.

I been trying to figure out the major pentatonic and you just answered a long time question I had. Like when playing in key of E there is no A note in the major pentatonic for the A chord. But you havre the 3 and the 5 of the A chord in the E major pentatonic. I just need to fiddle around with those two notes when the A chord is played. Thanks for that.

Hello Corey, super cool video. Maybe a nice topic for a new video, which notes can you bend on major /minor pentatonics scale? I think it is an('the') important skill in blues and if you look on youtube it is not well explained (or nested inside videos so diffcicult to catch). For instance on minor pentatonic , bend from minor 3rd with 1/2 tone to watch the major 3rd. On major pentatonic bend from the 2cd 1tone to watch the major third...etc..all possibilities and good practices.
