Man, Kerry this is so TRUE!! A few years back when I FIRST started watching your videos The one chord that you used which BLEW ME AWAY was the Em9 chord. The fingering locations that YOU used were around the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th frets. One of thee MOST MELODIC SOUL RENDERING CHORDS I HAVE EVER HEARD ON EARTH 🌎 Thanks to your teachings I am now addicted to utilizing minor 11th chords. I even accompany them with minors 9ths

Awesome bro. and I can clearly see why they call you “2 smooth!” That’s dope!

In a harmonized major scale the seventh degree(B) would generate a minor seven flat five chord, which some people call half diminished but, if you flatten the flat five you end up with an 4th but since it’s an octave higher than the root it’s the 11th(7+4).

Perfect! This answer my last question. I starting cord and family things. This is the hardest part for. I am working the heck out of scales, but need them to sound more like music. Love your lessons Bro.

Work on learning songs! Start with songs you know and like. If you think of music as a language most of us learned to speak before we could read, before we knew grammer(scales) or sentence structure (theory)we copied what we heard. If we treat music similarly it makes certain things easier to understand and process

just found your channel, your content is amazing. Thank you so much. Can you do a video on how to sound all ethereal and floaty like Alina Baraz? I feel like all her songs are in constant dance between A minor/D dorian and D minor since there is never a 6th played to solidify it in minor or dorian. But I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.

How come you refer to it as if this song was in major? I feel like it clicked for me when I realized the minor 11 vii chord you were talking about actually was the ii chord in the relative minor. Because it works with beautifully with a ii-V-i in minor too. Thank you so much, just found your channel.

Is the F# half diminished here a borrowed chord from the E minor ? or is there another formula to see it inside the scale since it doesn't belong to the diatonic harmony. I would be very glad to get an answer

Wasn't that chord at 1:44 a Amin11 then?
@Kerry2smooth7 ай бұрын
Yes. Editing error. The 6 chord in the key of C is Am.

Hey I recently paid for your Camp but haven't gotten an E-Mail regarding any details. I think it may be because of the fact that I put in a non-existent E-Mail, however there are forms of contact in which I can contact for help. 😅 Sorry for having to comment under a KZbin Video but i honestly don't have many other options. ( Oh and I have prove of purchase just in case that is needed)

Do you avoid parallel fifths when moving from vii11 to i?
That shotgun mic does not need to be that close kerry lol

Isn't the 7 chord a half diminished/minor7b5? If we are speaking specifically diatonic? The minor 11 does sound great so I'm taking that for sure!, lol. Nice lesson.

Quick question.....when using the Bmin11 for your 7th chords, why wouldn't you just raise the E on the 2nd string a fret higher to an F? Wouldn't that make the 7th chord a true diminished chord?
@Kerry2smooth7 ай бұрын
Typically in R&B we use the minor chord, not diminished and in this lesson, I’m sharing that I sometimes use the minor 11 because it has a soft approach vs the minor or minor 7 chord. Hope this helps! 👍🏿

I noticed that you only moved two frets up 1-3 but why only a half step when you got to the 4
@TheNatsu9727 ай бұрын
Because the 4th note or the scale is a half step away from the 3rd
@Dnell-tb1yd7 ай бұрын
The major scale in C would be C-D-E-F-G-A-B. The interval between E and F is a half step, B to C is also a half step
@Kerry2smooth7 ай бұрын
In the major scale (any key), from the 3 to 4 is a half step.
