It has two modes: 1) Classic Adaptive Cruise Control, with Stop & Go. 2) It's partial autonomous driving, it adjusts speed, follows the road, can change lanes, etc., but you must touch the steering wheel every now and then. It first shows a yellow light and a warning if don't do so, and then it turns red and emits a sound, if I'm not mistaken.

Edvard Haugland Sort of correct. Driving Assistant Pro also has Traffic Jam Assistant which operates up to 40 MPH. You don’t have to touch the steering wheel at all, but two infrared cameras in the gauge cluster monitor your eye activity. If you keep your eyes off the road too long, it will force you to take control of the wheel by beeping. If you don’t take over, the car begins to slow down.

Edvard Haugland Which model do you have? That’s how my 2020 330i with Driving Assistant Pro built in August 2019 operates. There’s other KZbin videos out there showing how this version of Pro with Traffic Jam Assistant works. I use it everyday in stop-and-go highway traffic. I can literally not touch the steering wheel for 20 minutes and it stops, accelerates, and steers itself. I only get a warning to put my hands on the wheel if it cannot read lane markings ahead or traffic starts moving faster than 40 MPH. Also, do you have Assisted Driving View on your car?

Just playing with this and exported the recordings from a recent trip. The videos are exported in format .ts which is not very useful. I can view them on my MAC using the VLC utility, but that would not be very useful if I needed to share these with an authority for example, Why cant BMW save them as .MP4, .MOV or some other format that is actually useful?

The video says July 2019, anyway make sure you have the right software version in your car. The latest one being the 11.2019, which, depending on your country, you can either get as OTA update or your local dealer can install it for you.

Noam Hazan Driving Assistant Pro adds semi autonomous driving capabilities that are enabled primarily by 2 infrared cameras in the gauge cluster monitoring the driver’s eyes. It allows the driver to not use the steering wheel up to a certain speed. Plus does not have that capability. Pro is only on the new 3, 7, 8, X5, X6, and X7. Plus is available on the 3, 5, 7, 8, X3, X4, X5, X6, and X7. Once the 5, X3, and X4 get their LCI (mid cycle update), they will probably get Pro as an option.

BMW. My point is that from the HOW-TO BMW KZbin posts it implies that owners who have Operating System 7 get this feature, which is clearly incorrect based on my experience and therefore is generally misleading. A previous HOW-TO also claimed that vehicles fitted with Comfort Access from July 2019 would now benefit from auto locking when the driver walks away from the vehicle. Again this was incorrect and misleading. As for contacting the local BMW dealer, these are not “dealer” issues, these are misleading statements put out by BMW.

@@johnlord7188 Dealer can help you since its a software update to iDrive 7 (not an OTA update). I know its in the 11.2019 update. I didn't get a 7.2019 update so can't tell you which features were added in the 11.2019 update vs. a previous update. Just call ahead the dealer because sometimes it takes 4-6 hours to do the full update so they may have to arrange a dropoff/loaner but it should definitely be free, make sure they don't try to play dumb and charge you.

What’s the point of this visualisation?

The video doesn't go into details, but it's useful for a couple of reasons. One, so you can better focus on the road -you can quickly look at the cockpit and see if there are any hazards before changing lanes, for example. Two, and more importantly, you can see the road from the perspective of the car, so you can see on the screen what the car can see from the road. Why is this important? It depends: if the active mode is Active Cruise Control w/ Stop&Go, you can see whether the car can detect the car in front of you, and whether it'll slow down or stop with the car in front. If the active mode is Semi-autonomous driving, then you can see whether the car sees the road, the cars, etc. so it can follow the traffic, securely change lanes, and so on.
