For many years of my life I have had many battles with my skin and poor skincare decisions and I just stumbled upon this amazing video that will ultimately factor into my senior year of high school. Your video will either save my senior year and the many years to come, or I will have to battle my skin once again. I will likely reply again in a few months to see how well this works out for me! Hey! :) I hope that you enjoy the set! However, keep in mind that if you struggle with acne to also investigate into the root causes of your acne, such as lack of sleep, stress or mental health issues, environmental factors (air & water quality, washing detergent, etc), or your diet (such as consuming too much added sugar, processed food, fast food, or any food intolerance; like soy, spices, milk, bread (wheat/gluten), eggs, chicken, etc).

Well, you could try retinol (0,2%) or their 2% Salicylic Acid serum (the water-based version). However, if you're dealing with a significant amount of pimples or acne, it might be best to use a retinoid such as Differin Gel instead. Incorporating that into your routine could help target the problem more effectively in the long run. Here's a recommended routine: Clean your face. Pat it dry. Apply Differin gel (it can be purchased on iherb.com if it's not locally available). Wait for 2 minutes. Apply The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA. You can also check out this video for more information: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aJTakGidf5KSiq8

@@kimiide1769 I'm wondering, do you already have a retinoid from The Ordinary? I recall you asked me about how to store it. If so, you could use that instead of Differin. From my experience, however, a gel form tends to be more effective. The one suspended in squalane can become quite oily, which might cause issues, especially if your skin is already oily.

@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Hi!! thanks for the reply. I tend to have very sensitive skin, I am mainly just concerned that it will make me react and will dry my skin out. Other than that, I am trying to reduce fine wrinkles and implement a better skin care routine as I only use a handmade moisturizer with witch hazel and lavender AM and PM, no other products. Along with this set, I purchased the retinol 1% in squalane serum from The Ordinary.

@@alexie1111 Ok, so Niacinamide and Salicylic Acid can make the skin drier as both regulate oiliness, therefore it is more suitable for people with an oilier skin type and congested skin. In your case, I would look into Hydrating and/or Peptide products which can be from The Ordinary (Amino Acids, Marine Hyaluronic, Hyaluronic Acid, Buffet, Buffet + Copper Peptides and/or any of the oils) or Hylamide a Deciem brand (SubQ Skin, Hyaluronic Acid Serum and/or Sensitive Fix). As for Retinol, since you already have sensitive skin, either go with a Peptide Serum and/or 2% Granactive Retinoid (it's less likely to cause sensitivity). The one 1% one is too potent if you are completely new to it.

It is not an acne treatment. But it can help for mild acne because of the masque(Salicylic Acid) and Niacinamide; it will for sure make a difference. For moderate to heavy acne, my recommendation would be to visit a dermatologist.

You have recommended the Granactive Retinoid 2% in Emulsion in combination with the niacin amide. I was wondering If I can use in the evening the vitamin C, Azelaic acid or the Hyaluronic Acid 2%? Or how to use the ascorbic acid and the alpha Arbutin and Can I use the Niamcinade and the Granactive Retinoid 2% in Emulsion as well?
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet 4 жыл бұрын
Okay. Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% cannot be used alongside any pure or ethylated forms of Vitamin C. Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% can only be used alongside Vitamin C derivatives: - Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12% - Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate Solution 20% in Vitamin F - Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate 10% I recommend keeping it simple. Use Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin C and Azelaic Acid in the morning and the Niacinamide and Granactive Retinoid 2% in Emulsion in the evening.

Hey Melissa, I've been dealing with Seborrhea for long time, two years ago I watched your video about how to use Azelaic Acid and Niacimade and it helped my skin quite a lot. I ran out of product and over a few months my skin definitely got more textured, I ordered the balance set and hoping to see results. I have two questions: 1) Should I include Azelaic Acid in this routine? or will it be too much? 2) This isn't really related to the video, but have you read about hard water effects on skin? I live in a very hard water area and tried to clean my face with distilled water and I feel like my skin is much cleaner and less irritated.
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Жыл бұрын
Hello :) I don't believe that including Azelaic Acid would be too much, as it is very gentle on the skin and should work well. Regarding the water, I've given the quality a lot of thought. In the past, I've traveled and lived in different areas and countries. I think water quality can be a significant issue, not only due to hardness, but potentially also due to contamination with bacteria or substances added to keep it clean. I always recommend people rinse it off their skin. Some people tend to leave it on, thinking it provides extra hydration. However, I've often read about this causing breakouts, so I believe water quality can indeed be a major factor. It's definitely something to consider! Edit: Where do you live? 🤔

Also, don't use your Multi-Peptide serum in the same routine as either of the Vitamin C products. @@alicostanzo9745 Correct. Either use the Vitamin C serum or the Suspension. If possible, use it only in the PM, as Vitamin C is sensitive to light and heat. It can also be stored in the fridge. Oh, okay, I thought you were using The Ordinary Peptide Serum. There are many different peptides on the market, and some of them are sensitive to a low pH/acidic environment. I have always used basic cleanse &moisturize skin care but I feel like I need more with first signs of aging. Have oily T zone, enlarged pores, blackheads and some old acne scars here and there and normal skin in other areas. I have below routine for AM & PM but want to incorporate Ordinary buffet to morning and Granactive Retinoid Emulsion to PM. But freaking out with these ingredients of mix and do not mix! Do you think it is ok of I add them to below routine? AM: La Roche Posay Effaclar or Cerave Foaming cleanser Ordinary Niacinamide serum Darphin ideal resource or hydraskin light moisturiser Darphin Intral if I am going to be exposed to sun PM: Same cleansers as AM Niacinamide serum Body Shop vitamin E or Cetaphil night cream I have also recently started using AHA/BHA solution from Ordinary once a week and it seems to be helping a lot with skin texture! I just am not sure if my night moisturiser is suitable to use after that. Thank you so much❣️🙏🏻

Hey :) You can use it like this: AM Routine: - Cleanse - Buffet - Niacinamide - Moisturizer - SPF Buffet and Niacinamide should not be used with pure form of Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid). Also, Buffet should not be used with exfoliating acids (AHA or BHA). PM Routine: - Cleanse - Granactive Retinoid - (Optional) Moistuizer PM 2 (1-2 times per week): - Cleanse - Peeling Solution - Moisturizer You can use one of the PM moisturizers that you like to use, both are fine! You have to adjust it based on your skin needs. So you can only use the masque 2x a week. Otherwise, it may be very drying, and as a result, you may get skin irritation, but apart from that, you can use the products daily or only once a day or only the ones you want to use. It isn't easy to guide because it is individual. Therefore, you need to experiment to see what works best for you :)

Water-based serums 2. Anhydrous Solutions and Oil Formulations 3. Lotions & Creams & suspensions Important: If you have more than one water-based serum, you can apply based on the priority of your concern (the product that targets the most important concern should go first). And it’s recommended applying eye-serums (such as Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG) first after cleansing. It’s recommended using no more than 3 serum formulations in a single routine for optimal skin penetration. About 2-3 drops of each serum and 1 pea-sized amount of creams should be enough for the full face and neck. Use a "patting" application method, as opposed to "rubbing." Always apply sunscreen when you are exposed to the sun!! Some products can have a foaming effect upon application depending on the other products you are using in your regimen. The foaming should not last longer than a few seconds and both should not remain sticky once absorbed into the skin. (Video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qGGXiGqohrtkiJI) "Pilling" (snakeskin, shedding) can occur due to too much product. Your skin can only absorb a certain amount of product, and any excess will be left on top of the skin so that when the next product is being applied, it rubs off. (Video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/opCmaHuqhJ1lbKM) If you wish to incorporate multiple Vitamin C's, Retinoids, and/or Direct Acids into your skincare regimen, it's suggested using them on alternate evenings and waiting until your skin has adjusted to one before introducing another. You can remove most makeup with your micellar water and then move on to cleanser and follow the rest of the routine as I demonstrate in the video :) However, the Ordinary Squalane Cleanser is excellent too to remove your makeup! :)

Keep in mind that these products are not acne treatments, and the masque may help to reduce it, and Niacinamide reduces the redness that comes with the pimples; you would still need something to kill the bacteria. Example Benzoyl Peroxide cleanser. AM (daily): Differin Daily Deep Cleanser or Panoxyl 4% Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA PM 6x a Week : (Ideally in the shower, just don't forget to apply the squalane cleanser to dry skin) 1. The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser (You could also use the Benzoyl peroxide cleanser here, but it depends on if you wear makeup or sunscreen during the day because you need to remove that first kzbin.info/www/bejne/oaOrnq2gqdyejJI) 2. The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% 3. The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA 1x per Week PM: 1. The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser 2.Salicylic Acid Masque 3. The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA

@@vale_8050 No, not necessarily. However, you need to figure out what's causing your acne in the first place. Otherwise, your acne will always come back. Let's say sugar is triggering your acne; the set can help you to reduce it...still, if you keep eating sugar, it will likely come back. Also, back then, The Ordinary put this set together with the mask because they hadn’t had the Salicylic Acid Solution. However, now, the solution is back on the market, which you can use more often than the mask. From my experience, Benzoyl Peroxide works more effective than Salicylic Acid. However, for others, it can be the opposite.

So, how long do these cleaners last?
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet 5 ай бұрын
I'm not too sure; I haven't paid that much attention to how long it lasts because I used to try many different products and often used some cleansers more frequently than necessary. If you were to just use the set/cleanser without trying out other products or recording videos, it might last longer. However, they do offer larger sizes of the cleansers and moisturizers.

Well technically if you have blemish-prone skin, you can use it. However, I recommend being mindful. An as a 12-year-old with "bad" skin issues, I always recommend visiting a professional so that you can get the best advice possible. :)

Hey :) AM Routine: - Cleanse - Hyaluronic Acid - Niacinamide - (Optional) Moisturizer - SPF PM Routine: - Cleanse - Glycolic Acid - Hyaluronic Acid - (Optional) Moisturizer I recommend using Glycolic Acid in the beginning every other day and see how your skin responds before using it more often. Some people prefer to use it only 3 times per week whereas others can using it daily, try to find your balance when using it. PM Routine (1-2 times per week): - Cleanse - Peeling Solution - Hyaluronic Acid - (Optional) Moisturizer Hope this helps😊

The Ordinary has a new set that can help with pigmentation; it's called "The Bright Set" use that one. Just keep in mind that if you have Melasma, it won't work. But it can help with dark spots or pigmentation that's still in the skin surface :) Otherwise, you need to visit a doctor and ask for advice.

Give your skin more time to adjust to Niacinamide, and you could use it less often or even mix it with your moisturiser to see if that will work better for you. Otherwise, stop using TO Niacinamide or moisturizer for some time to figure out what's causing the bumps.
