It looks like a good brand if you have sensitivity issues. By using separate serums you can likely figure out what products to avoid. I don't think it's necessary a "starting point". It's just that some of us have more sensitive skin and can't use the multi-ingredient products.

@@melissas4874 This is what I find both fascinating and frustrating about figuring out skincare. My sensitive skin has a hard time with how strong some of their formulas are. HERE IS SOME ADVICE! I have been employed by Deciem /The Ordinaryfor over 2.5 years at one of the counters in Melbourne Australia. When you are looking into the products, it is definitely easier if you know what you're trying to target in your skin (e.g. uneven tone, uneven texture, hydration, signs of aging). I would recommend focusing on the top 3 main skin concerns and try to find products that target those specific concerns. That way it makes things easier when choosing products to try. You shouldn't really need more than 5 products from The Ordinary, when it is over 5 products it gets hard to put them into an AM and PM routine. Especially when some categories/products aren't recommended to be used with each other. ❤️👏

True! If you're buying your own soaps, try using "gentle" or "hydrating" formulas (I've actually been using baby body washes with the National Eczema Association seal on them!). If not...I think you might just want to look for store-brand versions of the classic CeraVe Moisturizing Cream. In the US, I know for sure Target has a knock-off, and I'm pretty sure most drugstores do, too. I hope that's at least a little helpful, but somebody else might have better advice.

Even if you don’t have eczema it’s a really good cream. A trick that I use is I slather on cream on my hands at night and I put on rubber gloves to seal in the moisture and sleep with them on. You’ll wake up the next day with super soft hands!

I have eczema on my hands and the hand washing has made it worse. Definitely slather a good moisturizer on your hands and wear gloves at night. Another alternative is wearing a pair of damp socks with a pair of dry socks on top (like tube socks) my immunologist recommended this method and did help but then my eczema came back after I stopped for two weeks. (I’ve had it for 16 years so at this point I’m used to it). Definitely also go for anything unscented and look for soaps that are for sensitive skin (stay away from lush). African black soap is a good formula to try. Good luck!

Listening to this while I'm doing my the ordinary skin care routine: •I genuinely do not like the cleanser. I have a normal to oily skin and I need to feel like I have cleaned my face and this does not leave me with that feeling. Also the "foaming" is so weird and you have to put so much in order to feel like its doing its job. •I agree on the Salicylic Mask, I do get that little tingling feeling on my cheeks and my skin is sensitive as well. So i normally dont stay with it for the full 10 minutes. •I love the combination of Matrixyl+Argireline, my face really enjoys it. •Niacinamide I think was too much for my skin or the percentage was too high, because whenever I use it my face gets irritated. P.S - I dont use them combined. I have some nights where I use the Vichy Mineral 89 because my skin is not hydrated. I use the niacinamide only once a week, trying to integrate it into my skincare routine really slowly and for the rest of the nights I use Matrixyl+Argireline.

For years I've tried different things, I dread to think how much I spent! usually ending up donating them once my face inevitably broke out. A random aesthetician on Facebook called me out for a product I posted and at first I was like 👁👄👁 but she advised me to start using the ordinary cleanser and moisturiser instead and to try Paula's choice BHA once a week, it was a god send, she probably has no idea how much of a difference to my life she made - not having sore skin is so nice 😂 currently my routine is extremely basic I cleanse, moisturise and then once a week do the BHA and I'm petrified to change it because even things from the inky list that I've tried or other Paula's choice stuff has set my skin off. At one point I was struggling to get hold of the cleanser anywhere and I was literally cutting up the old tubes to scrape it out because there is nothing else I've ever found that doesn't upset my skin 😂 I think because there isn't loads of ingredients (which I know is what some people want) it's very good for people people sensitive skin and I'm SO grateful for it 💘

first aid beauty coconut moisturizer.. it comes in a jar and hyram suggested it and i like it!! it’s not heavy, it soaks in really quickly and it’s not sticky, and it’s not too scented either (has a VERY light coconut scent; doesn’t bother me 🤷🏻♀️) i use it at night after my cleanser that has SA in it 😬

Lipikar Baume! More initial outlay, but you get 200mL of product. Reddit says it has 4% niacinamide too. Cerave SA Smoothing Cream is another nice one, but it's sold in Europe and Australia only.

Arbutin really cleared my arms of acne dark spots. Need a new batch for my upper back. Niancinamide doesn't work for me: it stings and warms up my face. My sensitive skin can't be bothered that it should calm redness 🤦🏻♀️

And I thought I was the only one! Just could never get on the Niacinamide band wagon. My face becomes unusually warm, sort of like an inflammation. Thank god there are so many other alternatives out there. Not all ingredients are for everybody. Pick and choose what suits you !

Ingredients are definitely important but it doesn’t make up everything of skincare. A product containing denatured alcohol doesn’t necessarily mean it is bad, I think nowadays people are way too focused on ingredients in the products as if it contains alcohol it is like the end of the world, and reject to see the product formulation and how it works.

Finally someone to review the 2 products I bought today! I’ve been looking them both up now and your video is the first I found reviewing both. I got the Azelaic Acid and the Aloha Arbutun. Here’s hoping they change my post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. My dark soots have never gone away but I’ve never tried skincare products in them to help yet so this will be something new 🤪

Affordable moisturizer... E.L.F. Holy Hydration! Face Cream... It's so nice. I use less of it than I expected. And I usually prefer gel moisturizers so that I don't feel slick afterwards but this ELF one never leaves me feeling slick.

I rmb when the ordinary first launched and I first came across them on the same day. My skin was terrible and I saw that they had really cheap products. Using my remaining money, which wasn’t much, I bought a few products and started using them. I used the products everyday for a week and my skin improved by like 1000x. Literally my past face was hell and now it’s heaven. I was so happy I found my brand and no one will know about them but some tiktokers started using them too :/

I don’t have sensitive skin but my skin absolutely hated The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% and Zinc 1%. I was so upset I even tried to put it in three different places on my body to be absolutely sure. My skin was red with itchy small bumps 😔 I hope they come out with a formula with a lower percentage.

Can I point out that even though James doesn’t like the moisturizer+HA- I use it around my eyes when the skin is extra dry and itchy and burns with other products, because it hydrates and brings it back to normal without making it burn like some other things do

I poured my marine hyaluronics into a cleaned out mist bottle and use straight after cleansing before other hydrating serums. It works great for me like that as it already has the texture of a toner/mist 👌🏼

I recently started using The Ordinary. So far , so good 👍 After summer I want to use retinol. I hope everything goes well. As a mosturizer I am using Neutral. Super cheap and I have both day cream and night cream but I am using them depending on how dry my skin feels. It gives me a good hidration, my skin feels good. I really like this cream for my face.

I use the La Roche-Posay Toleriane Niacinamide Double Repair Face Moisturizer (too long of a name). I really like this because while they don't say the exact percentage, based on where it's at in the ingredient list, the niacinamide is probably at 3-5%. So it's basically a good moisturizer that leaves my skin feeling soft and refreshed without causing excess oil. I also like the Differin Restorative Night Moisturizer. The niacinamide isn't as high, but it also has allantoin, caffeine, panthenol and licorice root. It's a very nice and soothing moisturizer that's lightweight, but still delivers moisture.

I swear by the Ordinary Alpha Arbutin with HA, Niacinamide 10% with zinc and the buffet serum. I use them morning and night. I don't like their moisturisers either or cleansers. Instead I use La Roche Possay effaclar H moisturiser. Total game changer as it really hydrates but is made for acne prone skin. I also use their cleansing gentle milky face wash, it's so soothing and doesn't strip your skin of oils.

I used their products for several months and they have saved my skin! I used to get awful breakouts around my chin every month and now I’m getting less of them. I also use the KosRx snail mucin power essence and that has also helped in clearing up my face. My back however is a another story. I think it could be from my shampoo (it’s scented and has coconut oil in it) so I’m switching out to another formula soon.

Simple's 'Hydrating Light Moisturiser' is the best "cheap" moisturiser I've found! It is HOT where I live, and this is the only thing I've found that will sink into the skin super fast and not feel like I'm wearing a layer of product that I'm just going to sweat off in 10 minutes. In Australia it's usually under AUD10.
