It looks like a good brand if you have sensitivity issues. By using separate serums you can likely figure out what products to avoid. I don't think it's necessary a "starting point". It's just that some of us have more sensitive skin and can't use the multi-ingredient products.

@@melissas4874 This is what I find both fascinating and frustrating about figuring out skincare. My sensitive skin has a hard time with how strong some of their formulas are. HERE IS SOME ADVICE! I have been employed by Deciem /The Ordinaryfor over 2.5 years at one of the counters in Melbourne Australia. When you are looking into the products, it is definitely easier if you know what you're trying to target in your skin (e.g. uneven tone, uneven texture, hydration, signs of aging). I would recommend focusing on the top 3 main skin concerns and try to find products that target those specific concerns. That way it makes things easier when choosing products to try. You shouldn't really need more than 5 products from The Ordinary, when it is over 5 products it gets hard to put them into an AM and PM routine. Especially when some categories/products aren't recommended to be used with each other. ❤️👏

I found my experience with The Ordinary the same here in the UK as what you are saying- I spoke to them, addressed any skin concerns, they suggested a very basic routine and it is the first ever skincare routine I have stuck to! For me I use multiple ordinary products including: -Niacinamide -Aha bha acid peel (no more than twice a month but usually only need it once) -Glycolic acid 7% toning solution -caffeine solution 5% + EGCG for around the eyes only -the buffet I don’t use them all together but I can tell what my skin needs pretty well now and can pin point what products will help with whatever I’m dealing with and that’s why I love these products from them. I agree that their moisturizers aren’t it though. I use Cerave night cream when my skin is especially dry and after I use a acid peel and everyday I use Clinique moisture surge 100 hour (makes my skin feel AMAZING and works well with ANY SPF that I put on after). I also use cerave hydrating cleanser in the morning and I’m still looking for the perfect night cleanser but am currently using something that was gifted to me by Sephora that I can’t remember the name of but I’m not a big fan. Listening to this while I'm doing my the ordinary skin care routine: •I genuinely do not like the cleanser. I have a normal to oily skin and I need to feel like I have cleaned my face and this does not leave me with that feeling. Also the "foaming" is so weird and you have to put so much in order to feel like its doing its job. •I agree on the Salicylic Mask, I do get that little tingling feeling on my cheeks and my skin is sensitive as well. So i normally dont stay with it for the full 10 minutes. •I love the combination of Matrixyl+Argireline, my face really enjoys it. •Niacinamide I think was too much for my skin or the percentage was too high, because whenever I use it my face gets irritated. P.S - I dont use them combined. I have some nights where I use the Vichy Mineral 89 because my skin is not hydrated. I use the niacinamide only once a week, trying to integrate it into my skincare routine really slowly and for the rest of the nights I use Matrixyl+Argireline.

Weirdly the thing I like about the niacinamide solution is that I find it doesn't feel tacky on my skin 🤣 and it's one of my only serums that sits really well under moisturiser

I love it too. I never feel tackiness

I Love the Niacinamide & I do not find it tacky, Its my Go To product Also love the AHA 30% +BHA 2% Peeling solution which I use 2 X a week. These 2 products have removed all dark spots, old acne scars, etc.

Love your vid James! Been seeing the best results over time from the AHA mask that I know so many you tubers are hesitant to recommend bc of how people use it wrong and it's so strong but my skin is GLOWING & it's my holy grail I'm just super careful and only use it like once or 2x a month

adding to the niacinamide comment, I adore the small Pycnogenol serum from The Ordinary It hydrates and makes your skin produce more collagen and hyaluronic acid. It's especially good for dry skin. I just use 3 drops for my entire face and 3 drops for my neck and decollete and the backs of my hands. I always bring products down to the backs of my hands.

I LOVE my The Ordinary Niacinamide at night before retinol. It has been a life saver! 4 times a week and boom! No more hyperpigmentation, my skin is soft and balanced. LOVE IT! PS: James you look very handsome!

I think the key to the ordinary is knowing like actually knowing your skin issues and what ingredients will work for it I think that's where a lot of people really screw up with this product. They will take to a KZbin video and buy whatever that youtuber is promoting which in reality may not be what they need and may have adverse effects. This is definitely a product one needs to do research with and their website is pretty helpful about that.

A video on what ingredients can be combined (or not combined) with other ingredients would be super helpful. I recently used an AHA/BHA with C and then read that was wrong, ugh! Thanks!

I don't think I'm the only one who noticed, but I would like to point out the product mask popping up for the azelaic acid is listing the information for niacinamide instead! However I love this video as well, it was a nice and simple take on a few products. I could relate to the advice and am glad my impression and experience with these products is out of the ordinary (no pun intended, really.)

I never thought you disliked the Ordinary, but I feel like it's a natural progression in your skincare journey, once you find what actives works for your skin you would rather use 3 products instead 6. At one point, I think I was using 10 products and that is why I started looking outside on one active products as well. Also the texture of their products have alot to be desired sometimes. I have been trying some Facetheory face and Body Moisturizers and they are mind-blowing. On my face I am using the rejuvenating moisturizer and on my eyes and neck the Regena-C Moisturiser. The Ordinary I am still using their 8% Ascorbic Acid and Arbutin 2%. Everything else was replaced by other products.

first aid beauty coconut moisturizer.. it comes in a jar and hyram suggested it and i like it!! it’s not heavy, it soaks in really quickly and it’s not sticky, and it’s not too scented either (has a VERY light coconut scent; doesn’t bother me 🤷🏻♀️) i use it at night after my cleanser that has SA in it 😬

If frigging adore The Ordinary’s Marine Hyaluronics! My skin has been so much softer, bouncier and glowy-er since I’ve been using it! I’m almost done with my first bottle even and for the price I will repurchase again and again! It’s my first product by The Ordinary and I’m very intrigued to try more of their products. I also love your Princess Serenity figurine and Luna neon light! Sailor Moon forever lol

My brother, reminding me that we're running late- Me, surrounded by bottles from the ordinary and inky list: "Hold on! I need to finish mixing my potions!" Also, if I hadn't passed undergrad chemistry I think I would have burned my face off already. It really helps to know the pH of skin, water, your ingredients, and how they react to one another.

My favourite moisturiser is the Cerave, it doesn't leave me feeling too heavily moisturised and oily but also doesn't leave me feeling matte

I feel everyone only talks about face skin! I've been washing my hands a million times a day cz of the pandemic these days, and I dont know how to care for the skin of my hands after every wash! I initially tried using a hand cream after every wash but with so much of hand washing it's difficult to spend so much product!!!
@karatalksaboutstuff73333 жыл бұрын
True! If you're buying your own soaps, try using "gentle" or "hydrating" formulas (I've actually been using baby body washes with the National Eczema Association seal on them!). If not...I think you might just want to look for store-brand versions of the classic CeraVe Moisturizing Cream. In the US, I know for sure Target has a knock-off, and I'm pretty sure most drugstores do, too. I hope that's at least a little helpful, but somebody else might have better advice.

I totally feel you! I get eczema on my hands and it’s hard to find a good one to stay on. One that I really like that’s super hydrating is the Aveeno eczema cream. A little goes a looonnng way. Even if you don’t have eczema it’s a really good cream. A trick that I use is I slather on cream on my hands at night and I put on rubber gloves to seal in the moisture and sleep with them on. You’ll wake up the next day with super soft hands!

I have eczema on my hands and the hand washing has made it worse. Definitely slather a good moisturizer on your hands and wear gloves at night. Another alternative is wearing a pair of damp socks with a pair of dry socks on top (like tube socks) my immunologist recommended this method and did help but then my eczema came back after I stopped for two weeks. (I’ve had it for 16 years so at this point I’m used to it). Definitely also go for anything unscented and look for soaps that are for sensitive skin (stay away from lush). African black soap is a good formula to try. Good luck!

I've been thinking about this a lot recently too. Also as someone a little older neck, elbows and knees all need some loving these days 😅

So funny that you said that you use the Niacinamide on damp skin and only three drops because that's exactly how I use it! I also use it every other day only and right out of the showe, but I love how it gets rid of pimple scars or any other discoloration so fast for me. Pretty glad that I got the application formula down.

I recently started using The Ordinary. So far , so good 👍 After summer I want to use retinol. I hope everything goes well. As a mosturizer I am using Neutral. Super cheap and I have both day cream and night cream but I am using them depending on how dry my skin feels. It gives me a good hidration, my skin feels good. I really like this cream for my face.

I like using Embryoelisse Lait Creme Concentrate as a topper whether under my make up or as a topper over my regular skincare to seal it in, more so during the cooler months when my skin is drier.

My skin has improved so much since I discovered The Ordinary. Alpha Arbutin isn’t even available in Australia so I have to import it from the UK. Same with the AHA BHA peel. And I think the vitamin c formula has changed as it doesn’t feel gritty anymore. I also like the granactive retinol.

i love The Ordinary serums, they're so good on my skin. i have noticed the caffeine one is quite sticky though. i used to use the hyaluronic acid every day, but now i just use a hyaluronic acid water gel moisturiser and an eye gel. i have quite oily skin, so i try to use minimal products on my skin to avoid over oiliness, but i'll probably start using serum again in the future. I don't know if you've tried this yet on your channel, but you should try Neutrogena hydro boost water gel and gel cream. they're super light weight and super affordable. I found it's comparable to luxury brands. i've been using it for nearly 2 years now and i can't get enough of it

I'm not sure you would approve, but as a cheap moisturizer I love to use aloe vera gel (Holika Holika at the moment) + a few drops of oil. Can even be The Ordinary, as they have rosehip or borage which I love (I usually buy different brands though).

I used their products for several months and they have saved my skin! I used to get awful breakouts around my chin every month and now I’m getting less of them. I also use the KosRx snail mucin power essence and that has also helped in clearing up my face. My back however is a another story. I think it could be from my shampoo (it’s scented and has coconut oil in it) so I’m switching out to another formula soon.

The Ordinary was the first skincare line that taught me to take care of my skin at 36 (yes, I'm ancient). I actually moved on to K-beauty world & products and use The Inkey List retinols. My skin never looked better!
