I'm going to the diesel. I test drove it yesterday, and it felt great to me.

We really like ours. There are downfalls to it. My biggest problem is the timing belt. Just another thing I will have to do at about 120k miles.

Can you engage the lockers while moving but the wheels not slipping? Say you were moving 20 mph in a straight line down a completely straight road. I only ask because I was considering the Colorado and I drive a semi where I can and do do this locker engagement all of the time in order to climb steep dirt roads while pulling two trailers. I'm 50k lbs empty and 129k lbs when loaded with crude oil. I couldn't do my job without my semi lockers and I think it is a feature that I want in an offroad truck. I live in mountainous Utah, USA.
@BigFrogs4x45 жыл бұрын
Yes the rear locker can be engaged in 2wd and 4wd. The front only while in 4lo. Like you said. Only if the rear wheels aren't spinning at different speeds. I understand your big rig. I use to be a road side big rig mechanic. Left it for automotive mechanics for physical reasons.

Be safe out there!
@BenKlassen15 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the replies. Cool, so you could approach a hill in 4 lo and, while still in motion in a straight direction, flip on both lockers on the fly? That's great. I do that all the time with my semi to gain momentum on the short stretches. Sometimes the road is so loose and steep, I just keep all lockers on even in a turn. It seems to work out better than just having the interaxle differential locked. Road side service is dangerous work but we are glad that there are people out there to help us out when we break down during our night shift in the middle of nowhere. Good luck in your current career. Great channel. Cheers.

If you select AWD the truck is 2wd until it scenes tire slip, it then engages the front axle. I use it in town on snow covered roads, it works great and is seamless, you don't feel the front engage, you just feel traction and you don't feel any binding you sometimes feel in 4hi.
@BigFrogs4x46 жыл бұрын
Steven Claggett you are correct. Thanks.

please talk about the DEF Fluid and how to find out how much is left in the tank. I just picked up my 18' ZR2 last Friday and at 325 miles the DIC indicated low quality DEF fluid and shows 65 miles left to go before the truck will only be able to 65 MPH.
@BigFrogs4x46 жыл бұрын
The only way I know to know the level in the DEF tank is to use the digital gauge cluster at the speedometer. Put 2-2.5 gallons in it when it says you have 25-30% fluid left. If you overflow onto your paint wash it off with water right away. Dont wipe it off until its washed off with water first. DRF is corrosive. Probably be good to keep a bottle of water under a seat for the just in case times.

Im confused i think auto is for driving on not bad areas such as snow when i need extra traction but when would i push the 4x4 button to where the mountain symbol comes on the screen? I understand the front and rear locking and 4 high and low and auto just not sure about pushing it to where the mountain symbol comes on?
@BigFrogs4x45 жыл бұрын
Are you referring to off road mode? I would say it is to be used when you are four wheeling off road. On the road less traveled. :-)

@@BigFrogs4x4 Hey man, nice vids and they are super appreciated. I have a question for you. Does your ZR2 make a frog sound from behind the headunit when the AC is turned on? I also have a bell noise coming from my engine when I am accelerating from 1RPM to 2RPM in low speeds. I can't hear it on the highway. I just purchased a 2022 ZR2 and the noises are driving me crazy. Cheers!
@BigFrogs4x42 жыл бұрын
I didn't hear those noises but it sounds like maybe a exhaust clamp or heat shield loose? And the radio frog is a new one to me. Unfortunately I no longer have the ZR2. Had to trade it in for a more fuel efficient car for traveling. Man I really miss that truck! The salesman asked us if we were excited about our new car, I said no. He looked at me puzzled. I said I'm loosing my ZR2 for a Kia hybrid! That doesn't excite me at all. But with our kids living in 3 different states over 8 hrs away, and fuel prices, we needed the 50mpg.and the 150k mile warranty.

I will let you know if I hear anything else. If you are trying to listen to music with doors open or something like that you can flip the door latch into the closed position. Then when you want to close the door pull the handle for the latch to drop back down. Then close door.

The way I get around the seat belt alarm is with seat belt extenders. This may not work for some people, but it works great for me.
