Seeing your video for the third time. First time, when I bought the car just to understand the difference in standard cruise control and the new adaptive cruise control. The second time, after I used the ACC and wanted to know more about all the buttons and settings. The third time, when I got stuck in a traffic jam and was pondering if the ACC would work in this situation. Off course I could have tried it, but better to check with some expert before doing it than repenting later. Thank you so much for this wonderful video 👍

Thanks for this - coming from the previous Safety Sense version (on a Yaris) it was a bit confusing that they changed the button functions but kept roughly the same layout. It didn't help that the factory supplied manual was for the previous version! They've done a good job smoothing out the system driving inputs which were a bit clunky in the earlier versions. I guess the longer range and wider view of the camera and radar help with that.

Amazing review. Never used cruise control in any car of my cars until today. Wanted to make sure I knew what I was doing before trying it again ! Also I heard you’re not supposed to use cruise control on a new car under 500 miles ??
@CarDietrich Жыл бұрын
The old logic was you shouldn’t use cruise control during the first 500 or 1,000 miles because it was bad to hold the engine at one RPM for extended periods of time, but the good news is with Adaptive Cruise Control it varies the speed of the car (and therefore the engine) with the speed of traffic so have at it!

TSS might be underrated when it already comes with the car and hear it's superior compared to Tesla's basic autopilot. I recently bought a new 2023 Corolla Hybrid LE, and there seems to be something in its behavior that's very wrong. It has braked on its own as if there were some traffic ahead when there was none. Another feature you didn't talk about in the video is the Emergency Driving Stop System, which is designed to detect if you're not making any control inputs (like taking your hands off the steering wheel for more than just a few seconds). If it activates, it's supposed to brake and use the Lane Tracing Assist (which you DO talk about) and slow the car to a complete stop while remaining in your current lane. If the car insists on slowing down without my consent for some reason, it could be very dangerous driving in heavy freeway traffic at fairly high speeds to have the car slow down to a stop on the freeway. And it's not just my car. I saw a video from CBS News talking about people complaining of "phantom braking" like what I'm experiencing being a problem a few years ago, in several different makes and models of cars offering collision avoidance. I'm wondering if you know of this or if you have any knowledge that would confirm that this is no longer a concern?
@CarDietrich11 ай бұрын
I have driven several newer model of Toyota and Lexus cars with the newer version of the “Safety Sense” systems (2.5, 2.5+ and 3.0) and I personally have not experienced any “phantom braking” in any of them. This is obviously a condition that could lead to an accident in the wrong circumstances, so I would certainly advise you to have your vehicle inspected by a Toyota dealer under warranty to see if there are any faults with your car.
@leisulin11 ай бұрын
@@CarDietrich Thanks for responding! One thing I'm going to test on my own is that the manual (and a special "pamphlet" on the Safety Sense 3.0 system) says very clearly that the EDSS only operates if the Lane Tracing Assist is enabled and the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control is enabled. If it still happens when those conditions are met, then there's definitely something wrong. I am due for my 6-month first check-up in January. I'll definitely talk to them about this then!

Bought a 2024 Corolla Hybrid SE 3 days ago. Looking at the cruise control buttons layout I feel Toyota could have done a better job at organizing them. For example, swapping the "Activate cruise control" with the "distance from vehicle in front of me" button would provide a much more intuitive way to set things up. You'd press MODE on wheel to select your CC mode, then press (opposite side of the wheel) the right wheel button to activate cruise control, then (if adaptive cc is the node you selected) you would add your personal touch to the adaptive cc by selecting (if wanted) the lane assist and dialing in distance to vehicle in front of you, and BOTH these button would be located outside of the wheel, to the left of it. Would it not make more sense to do it that way??
@KillerofGods8 ай бұрын
Pretty sure the logic is, driving conditions can change quickly. So you might be changing your following distance throughout the drive. But you only need to turn it on or off once or twice at most.

It is not "impeding" traffic to go the speed limit on city streets. In most states it would be impeding if you hog the left passing lane going the speed limit, or any speed, if traffic must pass you in the right lane so they can speed over the limit. Their speed should not be your concern. You don't have to break the law just because they are doing so. That flimsy excuse will more often get you a ticket when stopped by an officer. I have heard many people say that they had to speed because they did not want to be run over by speeding cars. I have never seen anyone hit or run over for going the speed limit. This from a retired LEO. Enjoy paying your tickets. BTW, I have a 2024 Grand Highlander Platinum. The system is not really ideal for in city driving. It works great for highway driving. In town, drive the car yourself and keep your attention to the road and traffic.

Please do a video to show how to set up and use DRCC with Road Sign Recognition. If you are doing 50 on cruise and the road signs change to 60, what do you press to make the cruise speed recognize the 60 and synchronize by jumping straight to the 60 on the road sign display. Also the reverse with speed reduction.
@CarDietrich Жыл бұрын
According to what I could find in the owners manual for this 2023 Corolla Hybrid, that's not how the Road Sign Assist System works. It just warns you of the changing speed limited or whatever else is going on. Per the owner's manual: "The RSA (Road Sign Assist) system detects specific road signs using the front camera and/or navigation system (when speed limit information is available) and warns the driver via displays and buzzers."
@graemelovell2219 Жыл бұрын
@@CarDietrich Thanks for the prompt reply Dietrich. My 2019 RAV4 with the earlier cruise control switches works exactly the way I have described. When the Road Sign Assist changes to different to the cruise speed, I long press the RES+ to synchronize to an increased speed and long press SET - to synchronize to a lower speed. I use this all the time as I drive on cruise around town. My partner has just taken delivery of a new 2023 Corolla Cross Hybrid with the same steering wheel as in your video and I am still sorting it out. The dealer has told me that this feature is turned off by default and it is not covered in the manual. He said to use the ring on the left side of the steering wheel and navigate to DRCC and turn this on. Then he said there is a display "Press RES+ to accept" or similar when a new speed shows on Road Sign Assist. Suspect it works the same way as the RAV4 once this feature is turned on ie long press on RES+ to increase speed and long press on - button to decrease speed. I don't have access to her car to check this out. I was looking to confirm this on line and found your excellent video, but was disappointed to see that it does not cover how to synchronize the cruise speed to the speed showing on Road Sign Assist. Hope you are able to confirm this and let people know how to use this excellent feature with a new or updated video.

I have a 23 cross - I tried it on highway - it slows me down way too quickly and speeded me up way faster than I would. when it slows you down it is burning out the transmission! not the break - and it really guns it, wasting gas when it resumes back up to the speed. ALSO on the highway it is frightening, does not slow you down until you are far to close - so This entire tech needs adjusting or needs to be made so driver can program it to resume speed slowly not like a rocket ship,,,, and the following distance needs to be much greater - This is new tech and its not really that good, compared to what it will be someday. Im sure. Im surprised there have not been more accidents from it. you need to be able to set it to how you drive,, not some teenager who has had a few drinks and things they are superman! Back to the drawing board for this!

You can adjust how fast it accelerates in the options screen. Not sure if you can control how hard it breaks other than using the max following distance.
