Just to be as clear as possible, when you set the lever to 1, you can make knit/purl patterns, and when you set the lever to 5, you can make lace/mesh patterns. You can find some of these patterns in the small stitch pattern book.

I tried to use the U lock today but it got stuck. Your video gives much more information than the Passap paper so tomorrow I will try again.

The U80 lock doesn't have a clip, and if you are not pushing in on top toward the beds (holding/sliding it firmly), it tends to move and gets stuck. Of course, make sure your stitch size is not too tight, but take this as a friendly reminder. I hope you have better luck tomorrow. It takes some time to master it. I still am not a big fan of using mine.

At 4:59 you raise 3 needles on each side before doing garter stitch. Does that not add three stitches each side? Why are these raised and how does it affect the width of the fabric? Thank you

Thank you for your question! When knitting garter stitch, those extra 3 needles on each bed are raised to ensure that the transferring lock can correctly move stitches from one bed to the other. Without raising these needles, the edge stitches might drop during the transfer. These extra needles remain empty during knitting - they don't form stitches. The hooks will catch the yarn, but it will drop when the stitches are transferred, so they don’t add any width to the fabric. For example, if you cast on 20 needles, your fabric width will remain 20 stitches wide, and the 6 extra needles won’t alter that width.

You have explained setting 1,2,3 & 5, but what is setting #4 used for?

When the lock is set to 4, you can only transfer the stitches if the yarn lies in a zig-zag between the beds. So it is useful when you are using full needle rib on both beds and you have stitches on the opposite bed. In other words, use 4 for double-bed to single-bed transfers. When the lock is set to 3, it will transfer all stitches without any exceptions. Therefore, you can use the lock set to 3 when there are no stitches on the needles on the opposite bed.

Will the U100e lock work on the Duomatic 80? Or only on the Passap E6000?

Yes, the U100e it’s backwards compatible with the Duo 80. The needle beds on both machines are the same, and the pushers on the back bed of the E6000 are the same as on the Duo, so the lock should be usable in all settings. The U100e was designed to work with the round pushers of the E6000. The letter "E" stands for "electronic".

@@ArtOfClay Thank you! I have a Silver Reed LK150 with a FairIsle carriage (which is a rarity). Someone is offering me to trade for a Duomatic 80 with Deco, 4 color changer U70 and U100e. I know little about Passap and unfortunately, I don’t think she knows much about the machine either as I believe she said it was her mother’s. I am trying to figure out if all the parts are even there 🤪

Ciao, ti chiedo gentilmente un’informazione per U80. Purtroppo mi manca un pezzo e non so dove trovarlo. Manca l’ago lungo che serve par abbassare le maglie, senza cadono le maglie e non le trasferisce, per cui U80 diventa inutilizzabile. Mi sai dare indicazioni dove comprarlo? Mi puoi aiutare?
