Hi, I recently moved to a new school which isn't a special needs one, and as I have a little learning difficulties I'm finding the maths lessons really hard to grasp. I recently failed on my first maths exam. I kinda get the concept a bit with UB and LB- but my teacher asks for 1 significant figures instead of many, she also says you have to show the steps or you won't get your marks but I've only JUST grasped the idea of how to work out set theory. I have tutoring four times a week and self- study but because my old school gave us work meant for 5 graders in year 9... well, I couldn't really grasp THAT. please do you have any advice for me? -I'm a 10th grader and I'm really nervous because I NEED maths in the future when I am to qualify for Collage. -Please reply if you can Thanks for your time

I can not figure this question out, and it is frustrating me.. please help. The attendance at a local amusement park for one day last summer was estimated at 1500 to the nearest hundred. If each admission ticket sold for $21.75 what are the upper and lower bounds for the money that was collected in admissions that day?
@3minutemaths10 жыл бұрын
Hi Utilizers. the main bit of the question is '1500 to the nearest 100.' The lower bound would be 1450 (as this is 1500 to the nearest 100) The upper bound is 1550 So, the lower bound money collected is 1450 x $21.75 = $31537.50 The upper bound is 1550 x £21.75 = $33712.50 I hope this helps and all best S :-)

Hi - imagine that you're making 10,000 tables .... all of them 1.2m long. Sometimes, you might make them slightly bigger or smaller (say 1cm either way?) - that's called the 'tolerance.' In maths you'd use the word 'bound' but it means the same :-)

@GabzC19999 жыл бұрын
Oh sorry! It's the power of 8
@3minutemaths9 жыл бұрын
Gabrielle Connell Hi 3.0 x 10^8 is the same as saying 3 with 8 zeros .. 300000000 If this number was correct to 2sf it would be the 30 at the very beginning. This means that the lower bound would have been 255000000. It's a bit of a confusing question - do you have an answer?

26.25 rounds to 26.6 (3sf) it would have to be 26.24
@3minutemaths8 жыл бұрын
Hi - yes, that's absolutely correct .... except with bounds. In this case try to think of it as 'tolerances' and imagine that you're manufacturing something. If it was 10,000 tables at 150cm length, you might accept a tolerance of 0.5cm each side. The tolerance / bound would be 149.5 and 150.5. Hope that helps and all best S :-)
