That was good information shared but out of my personal experience and based on the experiences of few other freelancers I have known on my network these are my observations 1. Upwork is not an ideal go to place if you have just beginning as a freelancer, especially if you are offering common services which are being offered by thousands of others on their web site. If what you offer as a freelancer is a unique service, you can make the best out of it. 2. Upwork is a platform where we can explore opportunities and get to know a lot about how other freelancers conduct / charge their services. So, apart from getting good gigs, it is also a great place to figure out the profiles and working styles of other freelancers in your domain. 3. One has to be patient enough and wait to get selected for a task of their choice. It takes a lot of time for someone without much experience to get tasks assigned. This often leads to the freelancers to either opt for smaller / easier tasks or lowering their price to stay in competition. Both these are bad signs of freelancing. 4. One needs to work on a couple of skills like designing, video making, writing, portfolio to be visible on Upwork. Although one just needs to have basic skillsets, it becomes difficult for some of them to learn so many skills just to maintain a profile and attract gigs. And these basic skills might not come in handy later without further upskilling. 5. The payments for gigs for freelancers who have just begun is very low and it takes a lot of time to reach a figure that is acceptable to the freelancer. It can be one of the many options that you are trying your hand at as a freelancer with less or no prior experience. And if the focus is completely on Upwork without looking at any other option, it will take at least 12 - 18 months before one can start looking at benefits.
