Why do people dislike this? How ungrateful. We got used to getting everything for free and don't value anyone's work (in general) anymore. So, thanks a lot for the video!

There are better tutorials out there that are also free on different techniques of how to use the pencils. I personally didn't get what I wanted from this tutorial, but I'm sure someone will..

I think, because the result isn't good enough. The apples are dirty (because the artist mixed both warm and cold colors), apples' figures are almost flat (there's not enough lights and shadows on it) and the shadows below are dreadfully blue and solid!

Linda The Pony - Watercolor pencils can be used both dry and wet (especially Faber Castell Albrecht Dürer and Caran D’Ache Museum Aquarelles which both have very soft, creamy cores). I use them to create underpaintings for my non-water-based colored-pencil pet portraits. There is a portrait artist I follow on YT who creates the most amazing celebrity portraits using Lyra Watercolor pencils, and three Faber Castell Polychromos colored pencils. Sometimes she keeps the Watercolor pencils dry, but then adds water to smooth out the pigment in specific areas for realistic-looking skin. She claims that she likes to use the watercolor pencils because they don’t tend to have the wax bloom and build up that oil and wax pencils often have. This allows her to keep layering pigment for longer.

This was a very helpful tutorial on using watercolour pencils. I have spent an afternoon experimenting. As a first wash they work well, but adding additional layers or blending seems to get blotching very quickly. However, pencils on wet paper does create an intense colour, and using the pencils like normal watercolours works great. I wondered if the blotchy effect was down to the quality of pencils or the paper?

@KaylaTeets12 жыл бұрын
regardless of how many colors come in your set, sometimes you need a tone that is in between two of the colors you have. of course, this probably doesn't happen too often if you have a large variety, but if you only have 12 - 24 pencils, mixing becomes essential to make the colors you don't have. :)

Mind if I ask, is it a problem to use water colour pencils on a sketch done with a normal mechanical pencil or is it always best to started the sketch in water colour so it blends better? I have a sketch I wish to colour, and just bought some pencils, and have markers or could use GIMP (though I'm really uninterested in digital media these days), so your advice would be helpful and appreciated. :)

Hi. I have always drawn with graphite and sketchbook paper, but I went out the other day to a popular arts and crafts store and bought Arches water color paper (140lbs) and a set of 12 Prismacolor colored pencils. My question is, are these two items a good match for each other? The paper is very expensive. I only got 12 sheets, and I don't want to make many mistakes, obviously, ..so I thought I would try my first water colored drawing using this video of the apples. I have tried using the pencils on regular sketchbook paper, and I do not like the results. I am hoping for a better result using the Arches paper. It WILL make a difference, correct? Thanks for the video. Bill

Arches paper are top grade i would say, and Prismacolor colored pencils are not watercolour they are simply colour pencils don't use water on them! you should look for some tutorials on Color pencils i have seen people using prismacolour on normal sketch paper and its pretty good, i would think the results would be much better

@easilydistracted519210 жыл бұрын
If you want to stay low with the price, that is easier with pencils than with real paint. That's because you use less water. Have a look out for thinner watercolour paper (lower price most of the time) with the texture you want. That is usually in the product description or in the name, for example it's like that with Strathmore papers which in general are excellent artist papers.
