You're doing it bro we're spectating, However, most are correct.. AC black is always "hot" (110-120v) and white is always neutral.. 2) splitting larger gauges like 1/0-4ga etc.. is not recommended due to parasitic arching and fire risk.. you can make or buy crimp on fittings and jumpers for the other lugs fairly cheap and plus give it a cleaner look and more stable load transfer. Everyone else has good input as well. Keep it up! We learn daily and improve with every new build.. and respect for sharing your journey to success.

Hey bro quick question, do all the terminals need to be connected on the converter to work or can you just use one positive and one Negative? If so what is the exact name for those types of connections where it splits. Thanks
@joeyamador79612 жыл бұрын
So with the supply he is using yes all need a power supply to it. (I've only used one and all three needed a power and ground source) you'll need to take a few things Into consideration.. system size, amperage load, efficiency of system.. I use a powermax 120amp for my 5 channel amp and the taramps 240amp converter for my 4 drivers/amplifier and have a small battery bank as the drop is not as bad when you have a constant supply like your house will provide. Anyway to your question, I would use a spade connector (4gauge reduced to 8ga where it connects) if you use something better like a sky-high reducer that has a set screw remember to get some ferrules before you install in the set screw reducer. Now after the power is ready you'll jump all three together with a terminal block jumper.. (again need to know your load as some are rated at 30amps and if you exceed you'll blow it like a fuse. 2nd option build an insulated (wood) distribution mount for distribution blocks and run the separate runs to a fused distribution block then to your amp. Knuconceptz.com has some good stuff. H.M.U if you need help and I'll send you my email and draw a diagram and send pictures as you can get most of it on Amazon.

@@joeyamador7961 I know this an old post, but I am looking to do the same but I am running 2 amplifiers. Can I connect both the amplifiers to the power supply in the way that you mentioned? Also when I connected only one wire to the +ve & -ve. It seems to work, but there is a lot of buzzing in the speakers & especially sub. Is that why? Thanks
@joeyamador7961 Жыл бұрын
@kathylatrell9869 A few things, is the power supply big enough to supply the two amplifiers? My assumption would be no as I have the largest supply taramps currently offers (250amp DC) and it only supplies the motors to my subs, the rest of the components which are on my 5 channel is driven ba an additional supply.. genuinely it all depends on what you're trying to achieve.. car audio in a good acoustic environment can be overkill which is why you see smaller drivers in a lot of home audio applications and they perform well. List your equipment and supply information. Also keep in mind I have a lithium bank on mine to make up for what the supply doesn't keep up with. On the buzzing noise is your wire sized properly? What are you using for an audio signal? I am using a single din head unit with a dsp and quality leads from knukonceptz. Little more info and I'll help.

@@joeyamador7961 realized i'm using my gf account by mistake. Ughh.. nm lol each of my amps are 400W & power supply is rated for 1200W. So, I believe that should be enough. I have fuses on my amp. Also My subwoofer is running separately since it has it's own built in amp (car seat amp). So in all I have 6 25W RMS speakers and 2 transducers (bass shakers ) 35W each =220W total.Mine is a 12V system. so per the calculations I've see: Amp = 220/12 = 18Amps + account for 35% powerloss = about 30Amps. but I have a MEISHILE Switch Power Supply 12V 100A 1200W Transformer, AC to DC Power Supply, I'm using 16 gauge audio wires to speakers and 10 gauge to power. Everything is getting power and working but a lot of hissing from speakers. Also, when I play something on the bass shaker the high end sound seems to be bleeding into the speaker. Also another thing I'm not doing is using using a power distribution post that splits say the +ve from Amp to ALL 3 positive terminals on the power supply. I only run one wire from +ve of amp to one of the +ve on power supply and run one -ve from amp to -ve of power supply

There are several things that you should have done. First between your power supply and amp power you should have put a 12v capacitor of a fairly large capacity so you are not putting so much strain on the power supply when the base hits ( will make the power supply last much longer). Second is that the power supply you have chosen is really under powered for the application you have it in that power supply is a 30 amp 12 volt meaning at its max it is capable of putting out 360 watts it may be expensive but its definitely a good idea for a much more powerful supply.

Most SMPUs like this will not start up (higher end more expensive ones might start if they are auto sensing like the power block on a laptop - 80 - 250 VAC range) if the input is too low - 120 when 230 is required = no starting up = no power out

@saugustine325327 күн бұрын
@Mannyxz if the breaker that you are tripping is a 40A, then you should look into a capacitor, a 1 farad capacitor would be sufficient to supply your system with enough juice on demand to likely cut out the tripping issue entirely, however that's hard to say for sure. it would definitely help the issue big time. it would be wired into your amp feed between your PSU and amp. another thing I would recommend is watch some videos on how to do it safely, then replace the breaker you are tripping with an oversized breaker, but only if the wire feeding your system from the breaker can handle more amperage, this would need to be large wire, like #4 AWG which is definitely not what its wired with. keep in mind any other devices fed from that breaker would be losing their rated overcurrent protection. really what you want is a dedicated breaker for what you are doing, but I don't know how easy that would be for you.

Should the watts of the power supply meet the amplifier's specs on the power output in watts? e.g. my pioneer GM amplifier is 4x80 watt @ 4ohm so, what power supply is ok for me to buy?

Those Chinafeng supplies typically dont swing too far +/- out of the box to be a concern, however those cheap supplies to have a serious flaw that will cause a failure even if it's sitting idle. The flaw is the counterfeit power transistors or MosFETS used. I have seen it over and over a 40 amp supply failing after a week or so in use because it is using transistors rated for 10 amps or less. Genuine replacements can be cross referances and bought off ebay at reasonable prices. Changing out the power transistors, the big 400 volt bulk cap, and output filter caps will allow the PSU to operate up to the advertised ratings and serve you way longer than a week As for voltage setup, the ideal voltage for a car stereo is not 12 volts., it's 13.8v - 14.4v which is the voltage range of a vehicle running and it's battery being charged. A mod that can be done to 40 plus amp PUS is adding one of those 7 segment LED type panel mounted DC volts meters, may be called a motorcycle battery volts meter or something but I have a few dozen in various colors and they are pretty accurate, not lab grade but for vehicle use they are good for it. They also make volt and current types but the round ones are hard to find sometimes.

Thoes car amps are ment to run best at 14.4 to 15 volts you should adjust the little orange screw next to the green led and raise the voltage to 14.4v by turning it clock wise also at 30 amps that thing is probaly pusing out 250 watts per chanel tops

@user68607 жыл бұрын
I know the package says that the amp runs on 12volts but they are meant to run in a variable range from 11.0v to 14.6v i know this for a fact because i work on cars and the out put voltage from the alternator of a running car is 14.5 volts and these amps are ment to run off that voltage. They label them as 12v because that is the “recomended” voltage, running the amp at 14.5 volts will make the amp have a cleaner output to the speakers/subwoofer and it will help with distortion at louder volumes.

collin blanford Depends on amplifier design also, my ground zero is only 440W if all channels are loaded but has 2x30A fuses (class ab, need almost 700W for that output) Sadly your amplifier isn't 1kW, even with class D and 90% efficiency you would need about 1100W on input, thats almost 100A so those fuses would blow instantly. It' most likely 500-600W amplifier, same as this guy.
@ravenwolf73796 жыл бұрын
I do run over 5000W rms and I tell you, 30 amp fuses is WAY too small. Try 350A in line. Also, my audio could draw over 1000W rms off a 240V JL Audio power supply. Please be more accurate in your power ratings, as pesk power (as your 5000W amp states) is not an accurate rating. ALWAYS rate power as "rms" as that's the true input and output numbers you need to work with. As a reference, I ran an MTX 92001 D Class monoblock (3700W rms 1ohm) with 200A fuse and a 91002 A Class 2 channel (1300W rms 1ohm) with 150W fuse. There's NO WAY your setup would even come close to surviving that sort of load. Readers be careful. The idea is good, but check your numbers first.
