I have my T2i for more than 6-5 years and never really understood how the Shutter, Aperture and ISO work on Video, even though I'd thought that my camera was in manual mode for all this time. But never really tried or tweak these three settings to get the desired effect. Love this video. I can now use my camera with nifty fifty to get amazing bokeh effect videos and some more.

Aperture and shutter speed shouldn't be set to the lowest possible as you say in the video. Aperture affects your depth of field, so in most cases it may be wrong to leave it at the lowest f stop, not to say that generally, lenses are not their sharpest at the lowest aperture. And shutter speed should be set, according to the 180 degree rule, to double your frame rate. 1/60 if you're using a 30fps setting.

That was a big help, I had no idea the manual feature existed and I have had the camera for almost 8 months. I never had a reason to learn the movie mode side of it, I bought it for picture taking. @XEJ21 You should be using a class 8 or higher. Try Transcend sd cards they are good make sure you get a class 10 if you buy one. Sandisk is good as well as long as it is a class 8 it will work fine.

Which button are you pressing to record? are you pressing the "Shutter" button that's on top of your camera? or are you pressing the button that's above the "AV" button and has a camera icon on it with a red dot next to it? Because you need to press the button that's above the "AV" button with the camera icon. If you press the shutter button even while it's on video mode it'll still capture a still image.

In closing. Depending on the situation you will move those around and make them even each other out. If you want to shoot something fast. You need a fast shutter speed..something dark...a higher ISO and a big opened eye (aperature)

@zAtt1337 You can switch from PAL to NTSC - with HD it basically influences the framerate - NTSC = 30/60, PAL = 25 / 50. Colorsystem is just an issue for the old analog world. I live in a "PAL country", too - but now using NTSC with 30 frames because LCDs work mainly with multiples of this.

This tutorial is alright for someone really just starting out, but if you're really after a film-like movie look into other tutorials that cover the 180degree rule (FPS/shutter speed correlation), setting your cam to 25fps, install Technicolor CineStyle Profile, and if you wanna go even further run the MagicLantern Firmware. Just google: 180 degree rule Technicolor CineStyle MagicLantern : )

I'm still not clear on setting custom white balance and I don't have a great idea about what settings will work best; I photograph indoor skating and hockey events. I think auto chooses ISO 3200 in most rinks. The worst problem I get in auto is that the camera sets exposure by the bright ice so that the players are underexposed. Also the auto color balance in some rinks does not work very well and I get yellow ice. Should I use 5.6 on the kit lens if I'm going to be mostly zoomed in?
