The hack with the coating the inside of the bag with olive oil is a great tip. Thanks. Thumbs up.

I just got a vacuum sealer (not the food saver) & wanted to check out some tips before I started using mine. The tip with oiling the bag first is brilliant! That makes so much sense! Im going to use my avacado oil spray to just spritz in the bag! 😊

Thank you! Also, try folding over the edge of the bag before putting the product in the bag. This prevents any contamination interfering with the seal.

To reheat food in a microwave oven use only medium power for a longer time. This gently warms the food without cooking it more.

Can I seal a tomato chutney/relish that I've made to post in an envelope? It would be a lot less weight than a jar and less fragile? Plus would potentially fit through a letter box! Thanks for the video 😊

The term "hack" gets used so liberally that I'm now wary of hack videos, but you really gave great value here 👍 I've been cooking for 35 years and learned some great tips! Liked and commenting for the yt algorithm. Cheers from Australia

One side of the bag is rough and the side smooth. Does it matter which side is in contact with the heating element?

Not sure I'd put a plastic bag in contact with any heating element. I'd recommend warm water only.

make sure to pat the food dry before you vacuum seal it... any moisture will make the seal a lot weaker or not even seal at all also make sure you have plenty of extra room for the seal... i find that when i try to cut it too close between the food and the seal location, it ends up being a weaker seal due to the stress of the bag pulling on the seal while it's being made

When filling a piping bag, I always fold down the top edge (like cuffing a pair of jeans) so I have a clean area at the top of the bag. Is there any reason why I couldn't do that when filling these bags?

yes, cuffing the edge of the bag is the way to go for leftovers and moist food especially, the moisture/ particles of which can prevent a good seal and end up spoiling the food

This comment is pretty long, but please read till the end if you have a minute An absolute kitchen essential for single or couples. Take it from me, on very rare occasions you'd buy a certain product and then ask yourself how have you actually made it through life without it. The vac sealer is no exception to this. The benefits seem obvious but i have two stories to share, based on my own experience. The first one is, i bought some burger patties to repack in seperate portions. Now i was still a noob at the time and the pattie didnt seal properly and allowed air back inside. So i had about two or 3 in the fridge section as the freezer was to capacity. A week later i took out one and noticed it was off colour which is when i saw what happened. I took another repacked one which was properly vacsealed, cooked it and it was as fresh as the day it was bought. Id imagine food can last long in fridge, provided they are vacpacked. My second story is my testimony. I buy two blocks of cheese per month, one yellow and one white, typically cheddar and mozzarella. Over time i have learned how much to buy at a time to actually get through the month with minimal waste, especially when it starts looking like a science project. So lets say 500g of each and i know it's use it or lose. That gets me thru the month including wastage. So after my first grocery trip since i got my vacpacker, i cut up all the cheese in smaller blocks, vacsealed them all and just stashed them in the fridge. My shock came after about a month when i realized i havent even gone halfway yet with all my cheese the month and everything left is still as fresh as the day it was bought, a whole month later! I think this is due to the fact that there is no need to rush and make sure it gets eaten before it goes. Also if i cut a bag open, i take what i need and safely revacpac the rest, preserving it even further. Some time has passed but believe or not, that very same cheese is still not finished and i am now talking 2½ months later...

the vac sealer indeed “pays for itself”. if your sealer has the option to seal only (without operating the pump), i’d add another seal or two after the first one, just to be safe it doesn’t become undone, spoiling your food.

There are two features that you failed to mention. I have a FoodSaver that does not have these features as the model you used. Your particular FoodSaver® FM5460 2-in-1 Food Preservation System has an attached handheld vac and Dry/Moist option. The handheld vac attachment lets you seal most vacuum zipper bags and containers, an opportunity you failed to include. The other is the Dry/Moist component. When sealing wet food, does the machine automatically adjust, or do you need to activate it manually? Is the Dry/Moist just a label detailing what you can seal, or is there a physical button you push? I know FoodSaver made a liquid block bag that stops most wet food items when packing with a higher price point.

First put your meat in cling wrap, to trap the moisture inside, then you can safely vacpac.
@1samc
@1samc 2 жыл бұрын
put the vacuum to the edge of the counter and let your bag hang while you support it. the gravity will help keep liquids down, but not entirely. water and food particles in your vac are the #1 cause of destroying them, so it’s imperative to keep anything out from getting sucked into the pump. also, for wet foods, use a more delicate pump setting, you’ll get a weaker vac on those items, but the difference is almost negligible and your sealer will last much longer.
