*My windows are tinted 20% rear, 35% sides with no tint on the front driver and passenger (got pulled over for the front). Its hard to tell in those end shots when Im shooting directly into the sun. **I would HIGHLY DISCOURAGE taking the trim off the car. I learned from experience it’s almost impossible to take it off without bending or damaging it. And it’s a pain in the ass to put back on.

I have a e90 too and I took all the trim off to paint. The top drip rail was no problem to take on and off but I cant get the door/window trim on for the life of me. I even took the seal out and tried but no luck. How did you get yours back in?
@jammer49496 жыл бұрын
All this an easy fix. First, now pay attention. With shit like that, you take it to a pro! I just had tint taken off my Caddy and replaced. The cheap tint that was on it before had broke down. It was a MF to get off Rick said. (My Custom Car Guy) He showed me the pile of what use to be tint. Looked like used coffee grounds. Here is my point. Sometimes it's better to pay someone, rather than go through all that grief.

For anybody planning to do this themselves, hit the vinyl with the heat gun BEFORE you trim the excess with the x-acto knife (but after pushing it in with the squeegee). The heat will cause the vinyl to hug the inner contours and adhere better to the material. If you apply heat after cutting, as shown in this video, you run the risk of it shrinking too much and exposing the underlying chrome you're trying to cover up and it just won't adhere as well. Also, the way the larger chunk of vinyl was used for the rear swooping section near the c-pillar runs the risk of the wind over time peeling back the vinyl. If you insist on doing the wrap in two sections, do that section first, then the longer thin sections over top, that way when the car is travelling forward the long part stepping down the the rear part creates a better transition for the air and no possibility of the air catching underneath and slowly prying it up over time. A better solution though is to buy vinyl tall enough to reach the peak and valley of the trim piece and do it all in one shot so there are no visible transitions.
@richardfisher17754 жыл бұрын
When you say tall enough do you mean a sheet that covers the whole side? As if you were going to wrap the top section of the car 🚗

A lot of wasted material. I also sometimes use a light mist of soapy water so I can maneuver the strip around and then heat gun the bubbles out. Take a really sharp sewing needle and poke bubbles and lightly damp sponge to work out the moisture while using the heat gun. It’s kind of finesse work but the pin holes are microscopic and the heat evaporates the moisture underneath. I’m not professional but I’ve done decent trim jobs on my own cars this way.

Great tip about the larger vinyl piece for the back corner. I have a Grand Cherokee with hard angle in the back corner and the 2" tape is nearly impossible to stretch around that corner without creasing. FYI the reason its more difficult without those gloves is because it looks like you were using glossy vinyl. If you go with a Matte vinyl you don't need gloves. The gloves or a microfiber cloth do come in handy when doing your final heating. Much easier to slide across the surface without burning your fingers and you get a more even finish.

It looked super nice and I had to use multiple pieces due to the curve of my car, I overlapped them and couldnt see it at night but during the day its so damn obvious. so now i gotta re do it all lmao, Your best option is to try and use one sheet for as long as possible with no cuts.
