You did the BEST job I have seen for anyone doing this techique! BRAVO !! I laid vinyl signs for 15 years and NEVER ever thought about doing a countertop, until I came across the product on Amazon. After watching you, I am going to do my countertop! Thank you!!

How did it turn out?
@misssjones59143 жыл бұрын
when you are joining the vinyl don't try to butt the edges. Just qverlap it and cut through the two pieces. When you remove the excess from both layers you have a perfect join. Easier too.Less stress.

yeah great tip 👍
@leoracarrillo41392 жыл бұрын
If you overlap the two pieces and then cut to make that joint. Won’t you still have a remnant piece underneath the top layer? And that will leave a ripple/ crease under that top layer. So do you to cut the first layer, and then over lay the top and make the second cut like she did? Just trying to mentally plan out my project. Thanks in advance 😊
@ChaserTiponi Жыл бұрын
Thank you! That's along the lines what I was thinking. The other bother is sealing that to prevent water from getting in the spliced area? Water under that paper would cause peeling. Dont want that. Maybe that silicone rubbed in and flatten out with water to give it a nice seal?
@ChaserTiponi Жыл бұрын
@@leoracarrillo4139 Honestly I would leave the backing paper of BOTH pieces until you make the cut. Then finalize any bubbles n stuff for both pieces.
@macD7233 жыл бұрын
First, would like to say, good job. Second, I really like the idea of those doors you took off. Now for a little tip. When cutting the "seams", overlap the next piece before cutting. This is called a match cut, or mirror cut. This makes sure the seams are tight.

Great job. Only downside is if you put a fairly warm cup or plate on the kitchen counter in WILL mark. None of these DIY guides mention this.

This looks fantastic. Thank you for showing how to fit it around the curved edges. I have yet to try this in my kitchen because my kitchen counters are tile, and I'm not sure if it will look good. I have done this in the bathroom using DCfix and it looks great. I used it on the counters, around the tub and around the shower ( it is on an area that extends beyond the shower stall, so it doesn't get wet). The counters surrounding the sink get wet all the time however, and it has all held up for over a year. There has been no peeling, no gouges or discoloration. I'm not overly careful, but it is just me using the space, so that may account for it staying in good shape. Also I picked a beige/brownish granite look rather than the white marble.

One more tip. lol. When working with silicone, use rubbing alcohol instead of water. Spray it on, then use finger to wipe if off, smooth it out. Water doesn't work well with silicone. It's like oil and water. They don't mix. When you spray it on, it will protect the rest of the material, and the silicone won't stick to it. Much easier clean up that way.

You should use a heat gun on the edges so that they do not peel off in the future. Vinyl wrap is stretchable by nature that is why when you lay it down without heating it on the edges it will eventually "shrink" and start peeling off. Otherwise looks good 😄

If the scratches already been made on the vinyl it's probably not much you can do to remove them. The best way to avoid scratches is to lift all objets rather than shuffle them and use chopping boards at all time if on a bench top.

What happens when you put something like a cup of coffee or warm pot on this? Also the vinyl right next to the stove burners will be a problem. Also counter tops are exposed to sharp objects such as cutlery dirty pot bottoms. Will this not scratch the vinyl. I would not do this.

This will fail with time as heat and moisture lift the edges - 12 months max. The adhesive vinyl you can pick up at DIY stores tens to be fablon or DC Fix. It's so thin and flimsy and will gouge and scratch easily, has no fire ratings or guarantees and will discolour. Stuff like 3m, although top end and installed by pros, comes with a 10 yr warranty and looks and feels like the real thing. This just like like, erm, sticky vinyl on wood.

I've done this to my pantry but wouldn't dare do it to bench tops, not worth the time it takes to stick on compared to how long it'll last.
