Thank you for this video- I just ordered a VK56 and a transmission, ECM, BCM, ignition and all that stuff, I still have to get some of the other parts but my VQ40de died, so it's time to swap in the VK!

Hey Ry, excellent video! I'm currently rebuilding a VK using your other video series, for a frontier swap 😁 I see Offroad Gorilla offers the wire harness service and I'm pretty sure they just have Brennan Becker do it. Did you ever figure out the jumper harnesses? That's one thing I don't see mentioned a lot and I forgot all about, wondering if that's part of the service? For $350 might be worth it. Keep up the awesome work, my man! 👍🏻

Hey man, yes I did figure it out. The video won't be out for a while. I want to get it into the 8ball and test it before I release the info. Correct, the OffRoad gorilla service is Brennan from DD doing the work. I think he hard wires through. Not a jumper harness. I think the connectors are hard to come by. That's why your able to if you have the Titan. I can tell you right now, the $350 is worth it. I spent nearly 20 hours figuring out the jumper. But try to get ahold of him early. He's always swamped.

I see you were able to get some good info off the irate 4x4 site, very helpful. I have an '05 VK going into an '06 Frontier so the spreadsheets aren't exactly the same, but close. Hey Ry, love the videos everything is super informative and covers everything I would want to know. Im trying to make a decision and i hope you can help me out. Im curious if I were to buy an Xterra S and then take a pro-4x titan and swap engine and drive train into it would everything work as it should? Or do you think it would be more beneficial to buy a 4x Xterra and just do a VK swap on it. Again i appreciate all the info and work you put into these videos for us

You want to get the donor vehicle and the Xterra to be as close as possible in trim. For instance, if you want four-wheel-drive, then you should absolutely have a four-wheel-drive Xterra and the donor should also be four-wheel-drive. There's a lot of wiring for four-wheel-drive that needs to exist in the vehicle. The 2 wheel drive Xterras don't have it. Also you need to have a floor shift Titan and not a column shift. Unless you want a lot more transmission work.

Okay so how to you do the wiring if you don’t have a donor Titan? I guess just buy and swap the connectors directly instead of making a jumper wire? Also as far as AC goes is there any difference between pathy and x? The pathy has a separate AC unit for the front and the back but I’m guessing the x does not. And btw v8 pathy came out in 08 not 07 and they sure are unicorns.

You would just have to cut the heads off the QV40 engine harness then cut the heads off the VK harness and hard wire it in. Your ac should not be different. You're only gunna mess with the compressor. All that fancy dual zone stuff is handled in the cabin with blend doors and such. Good looking out on the pathy. Wish I could find one.

I don't know much about this VK swap but I'm assuming that it is about replacing the Xterra V6 with a V8. I suppose that the transmission would have to be replaced also along with the electronics. I assume that people want to do this so that they can tow heavier loads, But wouldn't you need to beef up the rear axle also?

Yea, the axels will be fine for regular road driving but if you want to wheel it or tow then yes, you should upgrade the axels. It’s more about just having more power for fun/off-Roaming. The small wheel base will still really limit how much you can tow. I don’t think you could ever tow as much as you would in a titan.

You forgot a another way to get rid of nats which is buying uprev tuner and taking it off. What do you think about doing it this way?

Oh yeah, I completely forgot about that. That's a good option especially if you plan on doing any performance upgrades or messing with the mapping's. Not sure how much it costs, though.

I am very interested in this project... I would love to VK swap my 2010 Xterra Off-Road. It looks like your Xterra key is the Valet key because it has the chip "drawer" (my valet key for my 2019 Frontier has the same drawer for the chip. the other two keys do not have the chip drawer. also the valet key does not open the glove compartment.). If you happened to have the valet key for both vehicles the chip swap would be super simple. I am very interested to see if swapping the BCM and chip works, mostly I am just curious if everything in the Xterra ends up working as it originally did with no warning lights on the dash. I doubt it will be necessary to swap the NATS antenna on the ignition, but I could be wrong.
