Good video as usual. I wish it was so easy to change the plugs on my Santa Fe.
@4DIYers6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I haven't worked on a Santa Fe before, are they that bad??? I've working on early 2000 Dodge Caravans before, they needed to be on a hoist to access the rear 3 plugs.
@BruceLyeg6 жыл бұрын
They aren't terrible, just a pain in the ass. You have to remove a bunch of stuff and then remove the intake to get at the back three plugs. Just about any one of them I've worked on (including mine) has had the front plugs changed but the backs are usually the originals...no matter what the mileage is or what the last shop it was worked on in says. I kept them the plugs from the first Hyundai/Kia 2.7 V6 engine just to show people how bad they can get when they don't get changed.

Almost sounds like the 4cyl Ford Ranger with 8 spark plugs. You'd think being a regular maintenance item, it's made to be more accessible. Wow that is bad! Despite it being more work, there is definitely no reason to cheap at replacing the plugs. Just causes more problems in the future, not to mention the jeopardize fuel economy, performance, and reliability.

Do you have a video for removing the valve cover to replace the gasket and the tube seals? I've got oil leaking into 2/5 of my spark plug wells causing misfires.
@4DIYers Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I do not.
@voiceofreason8912 жыл бұрын
On the P1 5 cyl non-Turbos (i version) you need to remove the intake plenum. Make sure you get a set of gaskets (5 green o-rings) these crack frequently and cause the ecu to throw codes.
@onergonen57524 жыл бұрын
Does these engines require thin wall spark plug socket? I did change the plugs of our 2013 Volvo S60 T5 (engine code B5254T12) today and the regular 5/8 socket made contact with the outer rim of the head which I suspect may interfere with the torque values.

Can you pre spray wd 40 30 min before taking out spark plugs I'm sure that will make the job a lot more smooth and easier to take them out? Thoughts?

what would you suggest first steps to do on misfire P0301, P0302 ? (c30 2008 v2 T5 automatic)
@4DIYers3 жыл бұрын
Check your plugs, that's where I'd start with first. If that passes, then move up to the boots and coils, they can be bench tested using a multimeter.

Great video! I can't open the engine cover. The T30 screws are rusted and stuck there. Penetration oil doesn't help. What should I do in order not to slip it? Will a impact driver be better than a ratchet?
@4DIYers5 жыл бұрын
Maybe an impact driver, but you'll need to be extremely careful as you can risk cracking the cast aluminum cover. If you have a small sliding t handle, give it a smack with a hammer from the side and the shock may help it break loose.
@jiminEcricket6 жыл бұрын
a little anti-seize on the plug threads may help ease any future plug removal
@4DIYers6 жыл бұрын
Not something I would recommend. Many spark plugs on today's market already have an "anti-seize" plating and manufacturers are against using an additional anti seize coating. When using an anti-seize coating, it can cause over torquing of the spark plug and also alter heat dissipation.

What would you consider a "flat spot"?
@4DIYers5 жыл бұрын
A spot in the rpm range where the power cuts off or there's a lack of power. Years ago I had a Subaru where the plugs were so bad that I couldn't go over a certain rpm. Managed to make it home and swapped out the plugs right away.
