So great to have some one actually teach technique! There’s a lot of KZbinrs telling you what and where to fish, but most don’t tell you how. Thanks IKE!

Frogs and jigs are my go-to “big bass baits”…not only because they’re stupidly effective…but I like just chucking them into cover with reckless abandon knowing that they’re gonna come back out. The weedlessness inherent with hollow body frogs really makes them among the best shallow water tools in a bass fisherman’s arsenal.

This is by far the best tutorial video I have seen. Short to the point, clear and concise. I will be surely taking these pointer's to the water! I use a 7'2 M/H rod only because I am bank angler and always run into situations where rod hits the water if I use anything longer.

Ike, I am a total convert. I've subscribed to several fishing channels over the past year. At first I wasn't sure what to expect from yours (yes you have that reputation of being a bit crazy lol). After subscribing and watching several videos I am COMPLETELY sold! There are dozens of channels out there where the guys go to a private pond and catch loads of fish while making it look way too easy and explaining nothing about technique. There are also many videos with a lot of small talk that has nothing to do with fishing, or with tips that I've heard 1000 times before. Your videos are the first I've seen where I truly feel like I'm learning directly from a professional who is telling me things that most people (maybe even many pros) don't know. With almost every video I feel like I am getting a true gem of wisdom. Everyone should take note of the fact that you are putting thought into these and revealing truly professional techniques, rather than just spitting out videos. Not only am I learning, I'm now a true fan. Thank you and keep up the great work. It is greatly appreciated!

Next strike you get, wait 2 full seconds to set the hook. It made a NIGHT/DAY difference for me. I hook up with 90+ percent. Sometimes it's just too small of a bass to take the frog in completely.

Thank you for a most educational seminar today. Despite my attempts, no blow ups yet. Maybe tomorrow. In your professional opinion, how far should I be able to cast a frog on a bait caster to achieve maximum walk the dog effect? Any guidance would be appreciated. Thank you.
@fatkid85234 жыл бұрын
Dennis Ederer I cast mine pretty far, but my frog doesn’t want to walk side to side. The best places I have found to fish it is around cover in the mid day. It’s hot so that’s where bass will be chilling. Even though my frog don’t walk, I still got 4 bites and landed 2 fish.

I know you made this 3y ago but I’m seriously having trouble with this. If someone can tell me any more secrets on walking this thing I’d love you. I’ve rewatched this video 4 times now, every time I go fishing I rewatch it because I’m determined to learn to walk it.. the best walking action I can get is if I don’t even reel at all and jerk the slack “to my right”. I tried fishing it today using his method in a downward motion but I still couldn’t get it. I wasn’t sure if the walking action solely comes from the twitch or both the reel too. On another note, I lost my frog cuz I’m still learning the baitcaster. I tied a good non slip loop on 10lb test braided line on my 7’2 med action fast rod, I casted it too hard and the bird nest literally broke the line and the frog went flying. I got the bird nest out and switched to 5” stick bait Texas rigged and caught a couple so it wasn’t a complete wash. But yeah I’m struggling walking the frog.

For those of you who tried this but are unsuccessful here is the reason. Not all frogs/rats are built to walk. Older and cheaper frogs have a different belly shape that won't allow the lure to walk. A friend of mine bought some cheap Walmart brand frogs and couldn't get them to walk. I gave him one of my Booyah Pad Crashers and he was able to walk the lure on every cast. Those cheaper frogs will still catch bass but you won't be able to walk them in open water.

You will be sorry you went with a medium heavy if you hook into a 5lb+ fish that is in the slop...... Use extra heavy when fishing heavy vegetation and only downsize to heavy when fishing open water with a straight retrieve frog (ex Sprinker). No need to ever downsize though. Extra heavy rod is no issue walking a frog. I would use a tree branch if it wasn't so heavy.
