Hi again Spencer Colgan would you say it is best to start from the window when decorating or do you start from the door and work round to the window thanks as the corners always throw me of which is next to the 2 side by side standard windows thank you
@spencercolgan3 жыл бұрын
The windows require so much attention that I just began at the windows on my last job which I just sent to you… I sent you two videos from the same job and it all worked out because when you get to the windows, when you have multiple windows, it really makes the cuts very difficult and so I would just make sure that the wallpaper seems around the rest of the room fall reasonably far away from the corners but I would start planning from the windows. If you only pay attention to the windows they will look great but if you wind up an inch away from the corner, that’s not good so you wanna keep in mind where the wallpaper falls during the rest of the room

@@spencercolgan just wondering I'm going to be wallpapering one wall next week and it has a window on it. Should I start from the window first? So like in the corner? Thanks!
@spencercolgan4 жыл бұрын
@@shellyc518 is the window in the dead centre of the wall? If so, make a straight line above the middle of the window & the middle of the window and hang your first left sheet right edge against your line and then hang your first sheet on the right side with its left edge against the drawn line and join the seams. Easier said than done I understand. Before you do that, measure the distance between where your left sheet left edge will be from the corner left edge of the left side of the wall in order to determine if you will have at least 6 inches of wallpaper. Between the left corner of the wall and the seem of the last sheet that will go up against the left corner of the wall. It might sound confusing but just read it over and over again until that makes sense.

Perfect! New to your channel so I apologize if you've covered this in another video. I live in the Orlando area and have a 10 year old house. It has the standard light textured walls. I realize this is probably a stupid question but - do I have to sand the walls completely smooth before wallpapering? I'm assuming yes, but just throwing it out there in case you have a better solution.
@spencercolgan4 жыл бұрын
Please do not think like that; criticisms from others in our past have made us very hesitant to learn and discover new things and so we Received our questions like… I know this must be a stupid question… Actually, it’s a common question from a lot of people. Do not send that stuff; please follow the procedures and techniques in the following video that I will list momentarily: Here is the video and this is what you want to do to your texture kzbin.info/www/bejne/f56VdJmpgt-ria8

Hi Spencer, I would make a slight change to your approach, because with my windows it resulted in an expensive mistake. When I made the straight horizontal cut into the corner to allow the paper to be folded into the opening, I found there was a tapered gap between the paper and the face of the opening, which was a quarter inch nearest to the glass. The problem was caused by the upper surface of the window opening not being truly horizontal. After taking the paper down and starting again, I started my horizontal cut one inch above the opening and ending in the corner. This allowed an overlap when I folded the paper around the opening, so I could use my straight edge and knife to make the horizontal cut. Just thought I would share my experience papering around my first window. On my new build I notice they used white sealant to hide the paper edges around the window. It looks tidy. Do you have a video for this? I don't know how you avoid getting the sealant on the paper. You can't use masking tape as it removes the print. I wish I watched your video about cutting around window trim before I started. When I made my cuts around the window seal the weight of the paper loaded with paste caused it to tear because easily. Hopefully, having seen your other video I will improve. Great video!

I've seen it done this way also. I didn't understand why until I've just read your comment so, thank you 🙂 My walls and recesses are less than straight so maybe this is the way to go! Isn't there a chance that the same thing could happen from the top down though as well? Sorry, just thinking aloud.

I measure 1 or 2" top and bottom not to waste paper where the extra you waste could be used in another part of the room. Same with wrapping a window and matching, you don't need to over lap all the way to the factory edge. You get paste all over the paper and waste paste and time cleaning it off. Just so you know, I've been hanging for 38 years.
