"Just saw a group of people who didn't warm up before their run! People say they don't start feeling good in their run until 10 minutes into it... There's a better way: Step1: Run for 5-10 minutes" ...

You started that off saying that most people just run to warmup and that they should warmup first.... then you prescribe 5-10min jog as the first warmup exercise 🤣🤣🤣

For an warm up, I like performing the two exercises of jumping jacks, shoulder shrugs, and deep squat-dead lift-sky reach. Repeating these exercises for 3 sets. I do this with my resisted-calisthenics routine as well.

Thanks for the tips. When I see you performing these warm ups I'm like, "Of course, that makes perfect sense", but I have been running (off and on) for most of my life and I just never thought to do the 20-step warm ups that you demonstrate. Done all the others, but not those. Thanks again, great video!

That was a killer video - awesome job. Will build the four steps in to my pre-run routine from now on. Up to now I've generally restricted mine warm ups to leg swings calf stretches and leg lunges but definitely see the merit in your routine. I especially like the stride out drill at the end - nice transition from warm up to running.

I have no problems running 15k in a decent speed but I want to make longer and more difficult runs soon. I am focussing on a IronMan in 2020 so I have to build it up.

@TheRunExperience
@TheRunExperience 7 жыл бұрын
Not more than 10-15 minutes, depending on the length of your main workout/run! Remember that the more in depth and effective the warm up is....the faster and more efficient the run will be!
@sja45uk
@sja45uk 4 жыл бұрын
The Run Experience - what you fail to point out is that, to effectively warm up, you need to activate large muscle groups, but not too energetically and for long enough to generate significant heat in the muscles. Hence the recommendation to warmup for at least 5-10 minutes, doing something like jogging on the spot or slow running, with the attention on technique rather than power.

I'm not sure I agree with the current trend out there of not taking time to do warm-up exercises and just relying on the workout itself to loosen up the muscles. Maybe it is because of my age - I feel it a lot more now than I did when I was younger if I try to do anything and I am stiff - or that I have an old-school approach to my running and don't use it as a means to promote social contacts. I do like to save the more leisurely and intense stretching for afterwards, when everything has just gotten abused. Most of what you cover in the warm-up I already do except for the squats and hip swings, which look like they might help a lot as I tend to have trouble in that area.
