I hardly ever leave comments...Just want to say thank you for taking the time to offer this lesson on KZbin. It is exactly like having a vocal class in my living room. I used to take lessons as a girl because singing was the one thing my soul wanted to do. Then, I came to believe that I could not sing and did not sing for over 30 years. Now, I am singing again. You are so articulate and fun (and cute!)! Thank you!! ~Donna PS, Wanted to also comment about the "ng" sound!...also a magical sound in Yoga (Kundalini) - ONG is a sacred syllable, and resonates with the sound of the "infinite" when chanted properly so as to vibrate the nasal cavity.

I love your exercises soooo much! They are so funny but sooo effective! There is no other channel that demonstrates for me such in depth knowledge of the voice in general, the science and psychology that goes with it all and the best exercises out there. Agree totally that the singing journey must be a playground of opportunities and exploration and discovery. So important at any level and in any genre. I'm a classical/choral singer/early music singer and this helped me no end. You are amazing! Wish you were my teacher so much! You have helped me a lot! I have a big concert coming up so I'm binge watching all your videos! 😆👌🏻

i am trying to learn to sing from a really good classical singer in scotland. She is amazing. But because i have had abuse since my childhood (Now 47) about my singing being worse than awful- which i know is not accurate- i have zero confidence and am really distressed about performing and not being anyway near perfect. Then I relax into it and really enjoy the lesson. my results are based on my mood however. I love your craziness and find your videos very helpful as a second tenor trying to be a first tenor, to connect visually with my head voice and my diaphram. It helps me be less tense and relax into enjoying the singing. Thank you. I subscribe. Ax

Does it make sense that I want to learn how to sing better but I don't why? I just want to be able too express myself better and release emotion, and sing praise to God. I don't particularly care if anyone is listening. Does that even make sense? Just curious if anyone else feels the same. I guess it's sort of like learning to play the piano. Maybe, lol. Sorry, guess I'm trying to figure out whether to take voice lessons.
@MadeleineHarveyVoice7 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert! That makes perfect sense! Let your desire for freedom and connection be your touchstone as you release the limitations from your voice. Just being there with your experience will open it up in beautiful ways and is the foundation of the vocal experience. The technical stuff is there to keep your body working to stay open, healthy and balanced as you express yourself.
@liss52447 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert, it makes complete sense and I feel the same way as you do as well. Please allow me to share a little - when I was young, people would put me down for trying to sing; even my own brother told me that nobody in our family could sing well. Because of this, I did not try out for my school choir due to fear of rejection, and I completely gave up on singing. However, after I came to know Jesus a few years back, I wanted badly to be able to sing well, to sing praises and offer up worship to Him during my private worship/prayer time. I prayed to Jesus, to please lead me to a vocal school if possible, and I found a few good ones over the internet but did not have the guts to sign up for any lessons. A few days later, I was talking to a sister-in-Christ at my ex-workplace and she mentioned that she would be heading for guitar lessons at a Christian music school nearby. She even invited me to go with her to take a look. To my surprise, it was one of the schools that I was researching on! Turns out, it was less than 10mins walk away from my ex-workplace! I went for a visit but unfortunately, there were no suitable slots. I prayed to Jesus again, and one week before the semester commenced, the school called me and informed me about a new slot they had opened up due to overwhelming sign-ups. The new slot was the perfect day of the week, and the perfect timeslot for me! It's been 1.5 years since I've taken up vocal lessons. Before every single lesson, I would invite the Holy Spirit to please join us. I would always feel His beautiful Presence in the studio as all of us started the lesson with a prayer to the Lord, and sang our hearts out to Him. So beautiful. I pray that the Lord will lead and guide you in your journey regarding taking voice lessons too. I am sure that He will guide you. He is so faithful! God bless you and keep you, dear brother-in-Christ. Jesus loves you! :) "Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples." - Psalm 96:1-3

Robert Hynes that totally makes sense. Listen to steffany frizzel/gretzinger. I want to be able to sing like her one day, but only because she seems to be able to just let go completely while I'm stage. One of my favorite live performances of hers is Child of God.
@allisonhowell3126 жыл бұрын
Robert Hynes I'm so glad I came across your comment. It's not a coincidence that you are feeling this way, maybe God wants to use you in singing praise and worship maybe you just want to sing better for him either way there is a desire there and I think if you feel the leading or urge to do you should pursue it. I'm in the same exact boat that you are right now. I've always enjoyed singing but I did it more for pleasure instead of performing. I was singing in the church with my family but am not attending there at the moment. I've honestly never put in the effort to exercise my vocal chords or the the discipline of practicing over and over. Now, I'm in this place where I want to improve for the very reasons you do because I want to sing for the glory of God. I'm not sure what for or where it is going to lead but I'm pursuing it and trusting God. I just wanted to stop in and encourage you to that if you feel God leading you to do this then pursue it! Also God wanted me to tell you to look to him to validate to you about your singing and the reasons why and not to look for answers through others..alot of people wont understand and they dont have the answers you are looking for. Be blessed
@maribel19586 жыл бұрын
Yes, of course it makes sense. You are worshipping our Lord and savior and you want to offer him your very best. I am part of the worship team at my church and I've been looking on youtube ways to improve my worship. It's not to impress anyone, I just want to offer God all I've got.

Show was AWESOME!! I was very free in my voice. My BIGGEST take-away from this vid is the idea of closing the mouth to do the exercises to work ONLY the vocal folds! Opening the mouth makes changes to include throat muscles. Big Take-Away.

That's awesome Rebecca!!! That makes me so happy to hear! That was a big moment for me too. I realized I could isolate the sensations more when my mouth was closed and then slowly open the mouth to balance the sensations as I worked to include more resonating space (which requires more air pressure within the resonator) Great work!
