Do you know how to wash your hair (correctly)?
Most guys buy the cheapest drugstore shampoo they can find (bonus points if it's a 2-in-1), and they lather it up, scrub it roughly, and move on.
But it's not that simple. To wash your hair correctly (without damage) you need to know your hair type, pick the right products (that won't dry your hair out), and how to wash your hair without damaging it.
In this video, I go over how to find your unique hair type, how to choose the best shampoo & conditioner for YOU, how often to wash your hair, & how to correctly shampoo, condition, rinse, and dry to keep your hair healthy, strong, and shiny.

yes. im so glad i learned how to dry my hair properly my frizz decreased to almost nothingness. Awkward stage sucks if you're growing your sides out. I just plop some gel on my wet sides and comb them back and it looks pretty decent. My back tho just does not want to lay flat no matter what i do.

Lol ! Scrubbing like a madman .. when my brother and I were kids our grandmother shampooed our hair at the kitchen sink and scrubbed our scalps practically raw ! 2 boys Squeaky Clean Red scalps .. and one hair salon I went to same thing .. some old lady older than my grandmother gave me a shampoo I never forgot between her busty chest hanging in my face , using the hose like a fire hose , turning , lifting pushing scrubbing and telling me to keep my head back ..I think I still have whiplash .

Thanks Travis. I am Filipino and as you probably know many Asians' hair grows straight out, does not lay when under an inch and is almost like horse hair or very similar to a shoe brush. Not complaining (because I have a full head of hair at 55), but not really sure what a realistic expectation should be as I'm going/growing through this COVID period. My hair hasn't been this long since before I joined the US Army in 1983. I'm still in that awkward-growth-length phase. ty

I've been doing it all wrong it seems. I have oily/combination, thin, fine hair & not sure about going 2 or 3 days without washing it. But, I'm going to try this weekend and use the techniques I just learned. I haven't had my hair cut in 15 or 16 months due to Covid. Going next weekend to get it shaped up without real length taken off. The PDF is great BTW. Thanks for the video.

Last time I grew my hair out was to try out the man bun undercut. It was an easy goal since it didn't require that much commitment to grow to the "bun length". I always kept my hair short, so it was intriguing to see what would happen. I didn't know about proper hair care though, so I washed my hair every day, conditioned it too and used unnecessary products to style it. When I reached that "bun length", I was losing hair like crazy. One pass though it with a comb and there was tons of hair, and I also noticed it started thinking on my head too. So I cut it with size 1 again. Not long after I started wondering what long hair would be like again, so I started researching, and your videos helped me a lot. I started washing twice a week, sometimes once (depends on how dirty it gets because of gym, job etc.), started using higher quality shampoo, conditioner and coconut oil. So far I'm 5 months in and it looks so much better than last time (also because I left out the undercut, so far I'm letting it all grow), I see much less hair in my combs and it feels good too. So I just wanted to say thank you, your videos motivated me to keep with it and dedicate some time to learn about myself and my hair.

@kingscy9

@@djswirleyI have a similar issue with hair falling out. Perhaps it looks like you're losing more hair because said hair is longer so when bunching it, it forms a bigger ball than if you bunched the same number of hair's cut short. But as an overthinker, I know the anxiety of seeing the amount of hair in my brush after a single pass through 😅

Hey , I really like your videos and find them really helpful for my current situation :) Could you do one video about hair brushing ? When it’s more necessary and when not? Because I have fine hair for example and by brushing the hair I get the feeling that they get more greasy and that I lose more hair. For which hit types it’s better to brush more/less often? Would be really helpful and interesting to know , love your content 👍🏻

This is awesome. So easy to over-complicate hair-care with even 1 uncommon option (like dyeing/lightening - way too many steps in addition to regular ones). And the more you damage or customize your hair, that much harder it gets to manage it. Here's some useful general hair-care information, in addition to this video's: - Straight/wavy: coconut oil is awesome, and generally cheap. You can have a shampoo, conditioner, and hair mask with it (untested). 3 times the protection (giggity). You can even cook with it (assuming it's coconut oil ONLY, not a hair-care product with it included)! - Any type: wash less often (as reviewed in this video). Regardless of hair type, don't make any extreme/sudden changes (except healthy ones, like better ingredients), to allow your body to adjust to them. - Any type: still want to shower everyday, but not ruin your hair? Use some sort of shower cap. Not sure, but there are specific hairsprays/products for those who sweat/produce too much scalp/hair oil - which you could use under the shower cap (as per instructions). - Fine/high-porosity: use coconut oil-based leave-in conditioner (as per bottle's and video's instructions). - Use a silk or silk-like pillowcase. It helps keep hair shaped smoothly and optimal. They're cheap on Amazon.

So, I used to wash my hair pretty much everyday for my entire life (I'm now 27) because nobody ever told me that that is not how you're supposed to wash when you're in the shower. I used to have nice, smooth, pretty straight hair which would fall down the sides of my head. Now, however, my hair is extremely frizzy, especially in humid conditions. I reckon I have type 2c low-porosity hair from the information I've gathered. Now, I started growing out my hair almost a year ago and I have about 7 inches worth of hair on my head, wavy towards the roots and more curly towards the ends. Until recently I never really paid much attention to hair care, but I figured maybe I can ake it easier to manage if I use the right products and the right routine. At the moment, after doing a fair bit of research and some converesations with hairdresser's, I currently shampoo once a week, usually in the evening after some kind of sport activity. I use conditioner in the shower every day, either pureology for damaged hair or l'oreal coconut extraordinary oil mask. I dab my hair a bit and add in a home made salt spray, then towel dry my hair a bit paying attention to not scrub, and just dab and scrunch. Then I add a smidge of 100% natural coconut oil from the supermarket and use my fingers to spread through from root to end. Sometimes I use a boar bristle brush but I've heard it may damage my hair, especially when damp. Then I just let it air dry. I think I'm getting fairly decent results but still my hair tends to kind of just sit there and not fall down the sides, and I reckon I could still improve y routine somewhat. Any tips?

Hey Trav, have you looked into Prose at all? They do something very similar to Formulate. I've been using Prose for the last 2 months or so and I like it but I feel as though it's not doing as much as it could be for my 3A hair.

Ive had long hair since covid started and was wondering why it seems like im losong so much hair when i brush and wash. I usally only wash it one or twice a weeks because of all the frizz. I bought some formulate, all in one milk oil and a b&b curling cream. I have very similar hair type to yours so finger crossed this fixes all the issues ive been having.

What do you guys recommend for a surfate and paraben free shampoo for anti frizz? I’ve been using this aveeno paraben/sulfate free stuff but man does it dry the hair out. Conditioner helps a bit but I only wash a couple times a week

How to dry your hair or style your hair after shower? 4. How to maintain it every night and every morning until next session of shampoo and condition? Thanks In advance.

Hello, Trav. I'm 25y old female. I ve highly porous, dry, thin, brittle, wavy hair. My scalp is very dry as well and I ve tiny-particle dandruff. I used to color my hair as well, since I have premature graying (14y). For two years I performed massaging my scalp with fingertips every day, shampooing and conditioning with ogx products, applying castor oil and black seed oil masks. After such a routine, my hair quality was tolerable and I was able to comb my hair. But then, I moved to another country and stopped performing all of this. I had to cut my hair very short. Why is it so difficult to get long healthy hair? Its so time and money consuming to get normal hair.

So my question is when I try to go 3 to 4 days with out washing my hair I still like to get it wet when I have a shower or bath, plus I think it helps me to style it better or rest my hair. Is this a right or the wrong thing to do? As some times mainly on day 4 it starts to feel greasy.

@TravWhite Can you make a video about castor oil? My experience with coconut oil isn't that best. I've found it drying for my hair and castor oil just makes my hair so smooth and soft.

Hi there I just found you and have been watching all your videos and I love them. I was wondering if you could please tell me what you think about the color wow line. I have fine hair and recently invested in alot of there products but now im freaking out wondering what all these different ingredients are and if its bad for my hair. I would greatly appreciate if you could look over some of the ingredients on tjere website and let me know. I use the shampoo, conditioner, money masque, kale serum, coconut serum, pop and lock, 1 min miracle, Shine spray and occasionally the mousse for brunette. I dont use them all at once after shampoo/conditioner I use either the kale or coconut serum and if blow drying I will use alittle pop and lock and after blowing dry a tiny bit of 1 minute miracle to tame the frizz on top, my mid shaft to ends only on top is frizzy. I use Paul mitchell three or color wow dream filter once a week. Please help I have spent a small fortune trying to improve my hair and now im stressed over the ingredients and silicone some are water soluble some are not. 🤯

I got the dyson airwrap for mothers day and I love it but wonder if the brush attachment is causing the frizz on top with the heat being right on the hair, I was using the revlon styler and loved it but got alot of breakage on the top layer and sides of my hair mid shaft to ends the back is in good condition I dont understand whats going on. I switched to the dyson but wonder if its all to much for my fragile hair. When Indonthe elasticity test my hair breaks right away. Idk if im using to much protein or not enough 🤯
