gottie man Yes you can if you bypass the break wire (lt green) There are 3 ways to hook up the lt. green wire 1 contect to the parking break and press when you needed. 2 hook the lt. green wire up to switch( ground 1 side and connect the other end to lt. green) 3. get the bypass from www.microbypass.com

Dakota Hill It depends on what type of phone you have. For example, with an Apple phone you need a Lightning to HDMI and for a Samsung you heed an Mhl to HDMI adapter. Thanks

I have the AVH 4100NEX and an iPhone 7. I also have the Apple HDMI adapter and watching movies and Netflix is not a problem. However, when I'm viewing the iPhone's home screen, 3rd party apps, or AT&T Navigation the iPhone's mirroring is only 1/3 in the center of the screen and I am unable to get the mirroring to use the full screen. So my question is how can I get my iPhone to mirror the home screen, 3rd party apps, and AT&T Navigation with a full screen on the AVH 4100NEX? By the way, you guys were the primary reason why I decided to buy the AVH 4100NEX so thanks much and keep up the good work.

londondtl thank you and sorry I do not have a good answer for you. The app is the problem, they built it not to do landscape. Kind of like Netflix will not do landscape when looking for a movie only watching.

I figured out an answer to part of my original question just in case anyone is interested. If you want to get a full screen when your iPhone is connected to the AVH 4100NEX via HDMI just turn it horizontally. The same applies when using the iPhone's Maps app and AT&T Navigation. However, AT&T Navigation will only convert to a full screen after you turn the iPhone horizontally and also enter the "drive" command. Very important, the iPhone's "portrait orientation lock" needs to be turned off prior to turning it horizontally.

Yes I would get the new model, it has a bigger processor than the older model. Android auto is not for any form of video watching just convenience features ( phone, text, map). To watch video you have to use the HDMI input on the radios. Thank you for the question.

Five Star Car Stereo It works in Europe as well if you donwload and install the Android Auto APK manually on your phone. Tested it myself at a dealer. He was convinced it's not working. Proved him wrong :)

I'm sorry this might be a dumb question, but on the back of the deck you have two apple lightning cable, Usb 1 for Apple CarPlay. Then USB 2 to do mirror and to charge the iPhone?

We use the USB2 for charging when using the HDMI lightning adapter for screen sharing. It is not necessary, it is just a convenience.

Kevin Vitug when you turn off the phone the screen goes black on most app. Some apps do have a screen share feature that lets the screen go to sleep, most of them are video apps.

This is probably a dumb question, but I take it that you can't watch any type of video from an iPhone (any generation) on the 8100 unless you do this? I mean, you can't just plug the phone in with the regular connector and play music videos, even if the car is parked and the emergency brake is on?

On the iPhones with the Lighting connector, you have to do this. On the older 30 pin, they make a version of the cable with RCA's. This will let you just plug it in and watch movies. Hope this helps, Thanks

Yes if you did not get an OnStar compatible interface. We use the Pac-Audio RP5 interfaces, they make a RP4 and 3 that will not give you OnStar.

Windows phones will do Bluetooth and if the phone has a HDMI output you can do screen sharing. Check to make sure the camera " Reverse Gear Setting" is set to -Battery. Thanks for watching

I have an older iPod video with older connection (not lightning) and was wondering could I plug it in to usb2 and my iPhone 6 in usb1? Ok, so here is what you need - first USB 1 is for your Lightning cable and USB 2 is for your old iPod. Second -USB 2 -you need the Pioneer CD-IU201V this will plug into USB 2 and the AUX INPUT. This will give you iPod control and video capabilities for you old iPod. You can do this from the iPod 2 icon that will appear on your source list. Third- Add the HDMI cable and the Apple HDMI to Lighting, when you want to watch video unplug the USB 1 Lighting cable from your phone and plug the cable into the Apple video adapter. Now plug the Apple video adapter into the phone and switch your radio to HDMI. Now you can watch anything on your iPhone. Man I hope this make some sense, thank you for the question.

With a Rooted Android that support HDMI out. You can have full touch control over your phone through your head unit. You just need to download and install ARLiberator or AR Unchained which cost about $30 and you can control your phone on your AVIC touch screen.

You need a USB to Lightning cable plugged into USB 2 for power. You will also need the HDMI plugged into the radio. Then you plug the HDMI and the Lighting cables into the Apple HDMI adapter. Then plug the Apple adapter into your phone and select HDMI from your radio source menu. Now enjoy your phone on the radio screen, thank you.

Ok, that is good next I would check your HDMI cable. Not all HDMI cables work with these radios for some reason. You may also want to take your cables into your house and see if they work on your TV.

Yes, do the break bypass. Ground the lt green wire. On the screen of the radio with the unit on but in source off mode- go to the bottom left - come up a1/2 inch from the bottom - over a 1/2 inch to the right- hold until in the middle of the screen just above the Mode button it says " set on"

The HDMI plugs into the Apple Lightning adapter. The Apple lightning cable( USB to lightning that came with the phone) plugs into the back of the radio ( USB port 2) and then plugs into the Lightning to HDMI for power. Then you plug the Lightning to HDMI into the phone and select HDMI on the radio. Hope this helps

I have a 4100NEX. I installed the micro Bypass circuit successfully, i.e. I can have DVDs playing while driving. For Netflix viewing, I connected an HDMI cable from the back of the 4100; the other side comes under my dashboard. I connected an HDMI to micro-HDMI cable to my Motorola Droid Razr MAXX HD phone. The Droid has a nifty micro-HDMI port which I have used extensively to connect my phone to a dumb TV with an HDMI input. What 4100NEX settings do I use to get this to work so I can view Netflix, etc. on my 4100? I am only using the Droid Razr MAXX HD as a video source. I have a Droid Turbo connected through the proper USB port on the 4100 for using Android Auto.

Thanks. It worked. Even when I connect to a TV, the functionality has always been less than 100% stable. On the 4100NEX it would have its unstable moments. While I had the urge, I also tried to connect my ROKU 3 to the HDMI input. It worked and was more stable. Then, there is that AC cord issue ... Obviously, ROKU stick would be a bit less bulky. I imagine Amazon Fire or Google Chromecast 2 would work just as well.

There is another solution. Buy a Droid Razor Maxx HD off of eBay. Get an HDMI to micro-HDMI cable. Plug the HDMI end of the cable to the 4100. Plug the micro-HDMI end of the cable directly in to the Droid Razor Maxx HD. Plug the micro-USB end of a USB cable to the Droid. Plug the USB end of a USB cable to the charging port in your car. Since I have a portable MiFi device I simply connect my Droid to the MiFi device using the Settings section of the Droid. P.S. This should work with any phone that has a micro-HDMI port, a very useful port.

+Brian Martin the only one of those 3 with full control is Spotify. Radios with CarPlay will do full Spotify control, basic track up and down with Sound Cloud ( until the are CarPlay compatible) but no Waze control. Some of the Pioneer radios have Waze control but it is not very user friendly. You can do screen sharing on most radios with no app control.

Android Auto is done over the USB 2 connection. You also have to go into the smartphone settings and set it up for " Other" instead of iPhone. You don't need the MHL for Android auto you just need it for video. Make sure it is updated to the the most recent firmware, it was bug fixes for the service.

The new Samsung phones do not use a MHL connection any more. The use a new service called MiraCast and it is wireless. You are going to want to get a Belkin f7d7501 MiraCast dongle. It will plug into your HDMI and wireless stream your screen.

Sorry that is a no go, Pioneer's hand shake with the Apple TV is not made to work with it, communicates with it wrong. It is a Pioneer problem.

We have never tried it, we always plug in the lightning cable. You can use either USB 1 or USB 2 plugged in it will work the same.Thank you for the question.

Five Star Car Stereo Hi. I did the bypass wire on my AVH-1400 and no video at all. I hooked up my back up camera to the HU and grounded the black wire in rear. Nothing. Finally tapped into the reverse light wire in rear and STILL to see camera on screen, I have to go to settings and go to Camera Mode. I’ve double checked my work but obviously missed something! What?!?! I’m starting to hate this thing but I know it’s user error and not product quality

Five Star Car Stereo Thanks guys! Thanks to your wonderful video's and reviews I just purchased this 4100NEX and paid to have it professionally installed. I'm having trouble with my HDMI! I'm using it with my iPhone 5S and have my head unit setup to use USB1 with CarPlay... I also have the bypass to watch video while in drive... I cannot get my HDMI to show up at all! I plug the lightning to HDMI adapter in (Apple brand and verified through the TV that it works) - for some reason when I click that arrow in the top left of the head unit I never see the HDMI appear. it doesn't show up anywhere - I've found it in inputs but it's greyed out and never able to click? I've also tried changing to USB2 and setting the smartphone setup to USB2 and selecting HDMI. Am I missing something??? Thanks again for being so responsive and helpful :)

Ok so to recap, the radio smart phone setup is set to iPhone/ USB 1/ CarPlay on. You have the USB cable plunged into the back of the radio in USB 1 and a lighting cable plugged into it. The HDMI is plugged in. You have the HDMI cable and the lighting cable both plug into the Apple adapter. You plug the phone in and you get nothing correct. Try taking it into your house and trying it on your TV to see if it works there. That way we now the cables are good. Let me now how it goes.

I took the lightning to HDMI adapter in the house and plugged it into the TV and the TV picked it right up and duplicated the image as well as showed KZbin perfectly. Is there something on the head unit I must enable in order for it to automatically detect HDMI, or is there something else I could be missing?

No, your not missing any steps. We have had a few HDMI cable not work, so the only other thing I would suggest is try a different cable. If that does not get it, you may have a bad unit, rare but possible. Have you played a DVD it make sure the bypass works?

I have an nex 4100 radio that i installed last week. I have installed both usb cables and the hdmi cable . I have changed all the smart phone settings and av settings to ever combination possible. I have also tried multiple usbs and tried usb debugging on my galaxy note 4. I also changed the mass storage settings on my phone. But i still can not get andriod auto to work. The unit just reads incompatible usb . I pluged my buddys i phone 6 plus in and car play booted right up. What am i doing wrong?

So the Android Auto launch has not been very smooth, chances are you are doing nothing wrong. First thing I would check is to make sure your software is up to date on the radio ( 1.03) and the phone( 5.01). If they are both up to date contact your phones service providers and make sure they are supporting AA, not all are. Hope this helps.

Unfortunately you can not get HDMI video to output on a RCA style output. The copy protection will not allow it, kind of stinks. What we do as a work around is use the iSimple Medialinx for the rear screens.

If you have the Avic 4100nex you have 2 choices. 1 install a switch to take place of the e break( ground one side hook the other to the lt. Green wire) and turn on and off like the e break. 2 get the bypass from www.microbypass.com( that is what we do) thank you for the question.

I have a 4100 nex and there is a bypass that you can do by touching the screen in a certain spot after you turn off/ standby mode but I can't seem to get it to work any idea what I'm doing wrong

TrillasAdventures if you have the 4 series radio you need a bypass, if you have a Navi it needs to be grounded and bypassed on the screen.

Yes you can us USB1 to charge if you don't want to run a second USB from USB 2. You will have to unplug the Apple adapter to do CarPlay because it will not work though the Apple adapter. That is why we recommend using USB2 to power the Apple adapter so you don't have to keep unplug it. Thank you for the question.

Android Auto only works on USB 2. You can try to use USB1 for thumb drive video but it would be better to just use the HDMI input. USB video has not been all that simple, the people that do get it to work say it looks terrible.
