The Tamiya panel lines colors are amazing for factory finished engines, but would stress that the surface not have a flat finish prior to its application. Otherwise, it will prevent the liquid from running down the panel and will make a rounded stain instead. Great videos BTW!!

I have to agree!! Great product, but only on the smoothest of surfaces. And thank you! I have watched your channel for a long time, you do incredible work! Cheers

Very true. If your model is already flat coated - just shoot a coat of clear gloss prior to panel liner. When done, go back and shoot flat coat again.

Just stumbled on this video recently, but one way of weathering I've really grown to love while working on my T-55 tank from Tamiya has been using oil paints to weather. A lot of companies make some great ones, and one of the best parts I found was the ability to easily weather and then wipe it away if you didn't like the results, since you use mineral spirits to thin the actual oil paint down. This lets you experiment a bit with things like streaking using oil colors and browns, especially with rust stains, and then using black or darker color oil paints, you can pretty easily thin it out with some of the mineral spirits, use it to drop into panel lines and then come back and clean any excess/overflow with a clean brush with just the mineral spirits soaked into it.

Sounds like an interesting technique, I'm always looking for ways to improve my weathering!

I really wish more modelers would do this to their rolling stock and locamotives, it takes it from a toy, to a more realistic model and is far more enjoyable to watch on their layout.... great video my friend 😊

I have to agree! That’s why I wanted to show the basics, even a little bit makes them come to life!

Great share and part 2 looks pretty good. Definitely going to have to pick some of that stuff up at the shop. Shinny alright but I definitely like the realistic look 😎🫵 Great video

I have seen this done with India ink any alcohol oil paint and thinner. The panel liner looks like the best route. Keep up the good work, what's up for part 3
@SilverCreekSub Жыл бұрын
Yes exactly!! I think that’s where this product’s inspiration comes from, next up is the final part 3 all about the airbrush
@theknickerbocker5808 Жыл бұрын
@SilverCreekSub oooohhhh man an air brush haven't taken mine out in at least 5 years. Maybe I will learn something new. Im pretty much a Pan Pastels person. If you screw it up, a damp cloth will fix the issue.

@@theknickerbocker5808 this is true, I have never used pastels, maybe I’ll give them a go!

Nice tutorial on how to use panel accent wash. I'll definitely have to grab some X-20 remover and try it out. I hope that you post a video on how you weathered your Scale Trains ES44(CN).

Same process as this 3 part series, just in added a couple things with acrylics with a fine brush. But the basis is the same, cheers

I'm a fan of CN and have 3 ET44AC's & 2 ES44's but waiting for Scale Trains to release the Dash 9. That's when it's time to fade that red.

Got bored about halfway thru & now my Overland SD70ACe looks like Thomas the Tank engine. 0/10 would not recommend.
