How to Weld/Install New Front Clip on Toyota Pickup Truck Cab

In the previous videos I removed the damaged rusty front support and driver inner fender by drilling out many spot welds. Then I replaced the rusty battery tray and repaired some damaged metal on the cab due to drilling out the old spot welds. Now I will show how to weld on the new inner fender and front radiator support using the existing holes from the factory spot welds as plug welds. Because this truck had some minor front end damage, getting the replacement parts to fit and line up properly took some extra effort.

Nice job. Lots of patience getting good fitment. Might try sheet metal screws to pull the metal together in tight locations. Use clecos if you want to remove and replace. Looking forward to more of your work.

What if you do a later model interior dash steering etc would look cool if it can fit but I'm sure you can make it fit

I really like this 1st gen interior because it is in pretty good condition. I haven't seen anyone swap a newer interior, but I'm sure it could be done with enough trimming and fabrication.

Make sure you paint the cowl drain openings on the sides, under the fenders, just ahead of the doors...my 87 rotted out on the drivers side and leaked into the cab, area can be reached on the drivers side with the cowl vent and hood hinge box removed....have to remove fender on the passenger side....and its a Ca truck not ohio

I dont think you can rely on how the spot welds line up from 2 different vehicles....They didnt have robots way back then and pretty sure they where done by hand....other wise, a couple more days and your back on the road....LOL

They were brand new at the time but its possible these were done by robot by then, I have a 79 celica and its big claim in the brochure was that it was welded by robots too

When I did the rocker panel, most of the spot welds were in the same place. The front support was a different story, but who really knows since it had been previously repaired. It's a relief to be learning on something that I can only make better haha.
