Lovely job mate, and sound advice! Just one question. When sanding larger panels, like a door, would you still wet sand with just your hand or would you wrap the paper around a soft rubber block? Many people say you should never use your hand. Personally I do both, but I just wondered what your take on this is. Thanks also for the gtair link. Every cost saving helps. Nice one :)

3M isn't even more expensive, by Amazon Prime yet! As I figured out after I bought my fluids, wtf, lol. But a bottle, Prime 1 day del., is $45, sure, but it's 32 oz., that's 2X the other brand's big bottles, 16 oz. Average around $20- $25. Many are $40-$50 and some only 8 oz. for that. But I'd probably never use all that in my lifetime, personally. People like you obviously do. tx for info. peace

@Tonys_Refinishing After flatting down and buffing up again, can you always get the same gloss level and wet look you had when you first cleared it (but before you flatted down) ?
@TonysRefinishingTV
@TonysRefinishingTV 7 жыл бұрын
+SP330Y if polished correctly and carefully then yes , a perfect dust free gun finish would be better but for a large job like this sometimes it's not possible , personally as much as most of us hate polishing work I prefer to polish jobs like this up fully to give them the best finish , other factory work that peel match ect is needed I don't fully polish I just tend to nib and polish

Hi Tony, How do you find the new g3 premium is it as good as the ultra and would you use the same process for darker colors? Im holding on to the last litre of ultra as i hear the premium does not have the same cut and im unsure weather to stay with Farecla or move on to 3m your opinion is appreciated. Keep all these excellent vids coming cheers Mike.
@TonysRefinishingTV
@TonysRefinishingTV 8 жыл бұрын
+dongil123 hi mike , tried the 3m range and personally do not rate it compared to the G3 premium and a lot more expensive when you work out all the stages that go into the 3m system tbh , I've done light and dark colours using this exact same system and had no issues at all aslong as you do the steps right and I'd say on darker colours I'd just make sure I have it a really good trizact to make sure the clearcoat was fully and thoroughly refined to make sure it polished up to the required flood and standard , hope this helps
@MortoFett
@MortoFett 7 жыл бұрын
great vid, can i ask why dont you use soapy water in the spray bottle???
@TonysRefinishingTV
@TonysRefinishingTV 7 жыл бұрын
+MortoFett this may sound strange but you can feel the cut of the paper better when just using water and also see the underlying paint better too as you wet flat , through the water you can just see where is flatted and where isn't so reduces the need to keep drying off to view , it takes time and practice to see what I'm trying to explain but if you wet flat a lot you will soon notice it

@TonysRefinishingTV
@TonysRefinishingTV 8 жыл бұрын
glad to hear this video has helped richard and i tried my best to put into this video as much information as i could, personally im not one for a block whilst wet flatting i think sometimes they can cause more harm than good, a soft block may help you a little but personally i prefer to have the wet flat in my hand that way i can feel the panel whist im flatting it so i can feel where and how much pressure im putting on each area as and when i pass it , that way for me it gives me more control over flatting the more dangerous areas such as edges ect , rather than using a block where you cant actually feel where the pressure is being put onto the panel , hope this helps slightly , Tony

@TonysRefinishingTV
@TonysRefinishingTV 7 жыл бұрын
+Jmac you should be able to do it exactly in this way mate if you wanted to go a step further you could use p2000 then p3000 trazact and a quick run over with a p6000 trizact at that point there panel would already look shiney and the compound stage would literally just gloss it up as it would be so refined and smooth by that stage , seems to some a long way to do it but believe me the gloss level after is off the chart

Didn’t know G3 premium was for compound and polish. Sorry being a noob. The polish is a mid stage between compound and sealant ? I thought a polish was a wax and final course. I know the Farecla is a 3 step process , quite puzzling to noobs. Only just learnt that compounding leaves no residual shine or wax.

+loveja1 it's never something I've done or needed to tbh , I know people like to and it's thought of as a standard to do but done right there's no need in my opinion

Tonys_Refinishing you should try it, all the cool kids are doing it. But seriously, it's so much easier with just a cap full of soap in your water.

Great vid! What da sander would you recommend? Is there much difference between the £40-£60 machines from the likes of Sealey and Draper etc and the £130+ machines from Mirka and 3M etc?

+Philip Black yes a lot tbh if you have the money I'd go for a mirka fine orbit sander , half the weight so a lot easier to handle and use and leaves a lot finer finish than the likes of the cheap sealey ones

+Tonys_Refinishing Great, Mirka it is then. I have a range of their wet and dry paper and find its great quality. What size of orbit should I go for? 2.5 or 5mm? I know the 2.5 would be best suited for flatting clearcoat but would the 5mm be a better all rounder?

+Philip Black I'd just go for 2.5mm mate if I'm honest it does both jobs perfectly I've found , and I'm not saying it's bad quality paper ect it's just that they seem a harsher grade than the equivalent in 3m for some reason
