Overwhelmingly, the reaction I have seen to me riding where ever, has been positive. People are intrigued by the thing and want to know more about it, normally highly impressed by my bravery being on it at all. Much as the same when I did hang gliding in fact (what can I tell you, I'm a hero). The one time I note with a negative reaction to me being on the pavement was by a guy whose argument was by all accounts, rules are rules. You can't please everyone all the time :-)

I have to admit that I've had almost zero trouble where I live in the U.S. including passing by police officers many times. In over 3.5 years I think one person on a bicycle shouted something at me that I couldn't quite make put. Something about legal? Not too many arguments for me to engage in much less win.

I agree. 99.9% of interactions are absolutely fine.

in the US they are legal. at least in most states/cities they are unclassified, or considered appropriately as E-bikes. Either way as long as you follow simple rules and laws of the road you should be fine.

I’m from the US, here there have been three fatalities over a 5 year period however all of those fatalities were found to be the motor vehicle drivers fault and. It the euc rider, 2 of which were hit and runs. Euc’s are like any other form of transportation, it’s only dangerous if you push yourself and your machine past it’s limits.

Always be courteous and friendly on your EUC. They're scary, new, and in some cases they're genuinely very powerful to be used on local roads and bike baths. Don't give the haters any ammo, because the media has already gone after e-scooters and we've seen a few jabs at "ECUs" from media in the US. Yes, that's right, they ran scare pieces against the "ECUs" that they'd obviously thoroughly researched.

Jon, the problem with your arguments is that they are logical. Like others have stated, 99.9% of the reactions I get are positive, but I've found that the negative reaction of that 0.1% is emotional, and rational arguments are useless when emotion and cognitive dissonance are involved. Rational arguments just drive the dissenter deeper into their irrational position. I've found it best to be courteous, slow down when passing people and pets, and don't give anyone a reason to accuse you of putting yourself or others at risk. As with anything else in life, there's that small percentage that will find fault with things they're unfamiliar with regardless of what you do. Not much we can do about that. That said, I've been on group rides where some of the participants refused to slow down in public areas where there was high pedestrian traffic. They dodged and weaved at high speed through city parks scaring pedestrians and their pets, and in a small minority of cases, cursing at the pedestrians for getting in their way. This is a sure way to get PEV's banned. Once a pedestrian has been treated in this manner, no amount of logic will bring them back to our side.

All Innovations have to withstand the time of doubt. Unnatural movement like flying is still feared by many after over a hundred years, but they still use it regularly. If the EUC can allow a one legged man to stand up from a wheelchair and roll forward standing in dignity is a wrong innovation, then I recommend a sanity check for those in doubt.

I’m lucky in that my EUC is completely legal where I live (allowed to go 20 in public spaces, v8s tops out at 22, but 19-20 is more realistic cruising). I did have a weird moment the other day, a guy came out of his house and flagged me down as I was riding by, and I came over to him and what he wanted to tell me was that EUCs were too dangerous. I’m 42, I found it amazing he felt like he could lecture me. I don’t care what he has to say, frankly, but it is the only time that has ever happened to me, including when I was a kid doing dumb stuff on my bmx bike. In this case I was riding 15-20 mph in a bike lane in a suburban neighborhood with nobody around.

@@wheellifejon Virginia, USA. EUCs fall in the catch-all designation of “Electric Personal Assistive Mobility Device” and are allowed to be operated at up to 25 (there is no power level restriction, just how you are allowed to operate it in public spaces). Scooters and electric skateboards are restricted to 20, so I go by the more restrictive limit in case they tried arguing it was a skateboard. It varies state to state, I know they are flat out illegal in NY.

@@Nemonurwingy You are indeed blessed to have such forward thinking leaders in your part of the world. @@wheellifejon go ahead. Washington, DC has pretty similar rules and has a group of EUC riders that’s made the news before (in a “isn’t this interesting but also completely legal” way) if that helps in your episode. After reading a few of the posts? I deleted my post because I just don't have these problems. But I can bet that you wouldn't want what I contend with. Cobra crossing a dirt path and it spit's right at your face shild. or your riding out one the road and baby elephants become a little curious. You look like a human but you don't move like one. And then mommy shows up. Or how about riding past a monastery where the monks have Tigers living with them. And they want to play by chasing you because, once again you move differently then the other's. They are used to humans and tourists even take photos with these big kitties. But they love to run after you sometime's If they see you on an EUC. Welcome to EUC life in Thailand. Floating market outback? Wear leather. Even cover up your neck. Your in Cobra country. On the streets of Koh Samui? It's elephants. Mostly the country roads. At the monk monasteries it's their Tiger's. I still wonder who thought having tigers as living companion's was a good idea? And that's EUC life Thailand. Be brave. Stay wild. Nuff Said.

Are you the REAL James Bond? I am going to feature your comment in my next episode of The EUC Show!
@yojimbo86952 жыл бұрын
Am I real? That's the rumor. My wife holds actual conversation with me. But she does claim that I have werewolf eyes. And a look about me that's intense. As if I am looking through you. My daughter backs this up. My actual birth name is James Ray Bond. The Elephants are on the island of Koh Samui. The cobra's? You should just stay away from. Their venom can paralyze you if it makes contact with your skin. The Tigers are at this monk monastery I can't pronounce but I am sure you can find it online. So that's easy enough to locate. Now if you are willing to say "I really don't need to go screwing around with any cobra's, so I'm good on that" then I could point you towards Lumpini Park. Bangkok. This park has Dragon's, just don't let it bit you. Too many different types of disease's in their Silvia. Just like the Komodo dragons. But it's a great EUC ride. As for accommodation? Might I recommend the Chatu De Bangkok. The park is right across the street. Thailand is EUC friendly. Enjoy. Be brave. Stay wild. Nuff Said.
