I have been playing dota for 4 years and went from low archon to high divine as carry almost exclusively(95%) of games. The absolute biggest thing that has allowed me to consistently improve is last hitting and wave management pre 10min. This video is an excellent reminder that solid fundamentals are often what separates good games/players and bad games/players

I can make it short: 1. In most situations, always aggro creeps. 2. Try to keep the creep waves balanced in quantity. 3. When you have the decent item set, clear the creep wave as fast as possible and go jungle, then repeat.
@gonxmaster
@gonxmaster Жыл бұрын
As a carry player, I will make a slight correction to your point 3: - When your hero has enough level to clear up camps (Juggernaut's spin, Sven's cleave, Medusa's Split Shot, etc) push the wave and go farm as many camps as possible to maximize farm during laning phase. P.S. Also, the main goal of the game is to destroy the enemies Ancient, if the opposing offlaner/soft support won't defend their tier 1 tower, it's always better to take it down before going jungle.
@NemoNotus
@NemoNotus Жыл бұрын
@@gonxmaster Taking a tower from full to zero takes time. Even the last bit does. Time that can be used for more last hits. I have seen many players waste their time hitting the tower, when the creeps could have done the same simply by pushing in the lane. Many lower bracket players will also risk getting ganked while trying, not reading the map correct. I‘d rather say: never hit the tower unless you see enemies elsewhere on the map. Better push out lanes.
@naqi_zariz
@naqi_zariz Жыл бұрын
I'll have to agree with nemo. Pushing towers rarely reap rewards when you can instead farm. Plus, lower ranked players don't know how to fully utilize the space they get with the fallen tower

You gentlemen all make good points but in specific situations and matchups were you certainly have an advantage that you can leverage the 5/10 min cart timing to heavily the damage the tower or outright take it down if possible then you should. I do not know what it's like at lower levels but I sure as hell tell my supports in my Divine bracket that I intend to always go aggressive and shove the lane when the cart is coming and do as much damage as possible to the tower with it and want him to help assist me. This is coming from a guy who spams lane winners like Gyro, CK and Juggernaut though.

Remember that as carry: your ability to make decisions that give you the upper hand is key. Carrying is much easier if you allow yourself those advantages, like using pull camps, proper itemization, and being picky about interaction with heroes. This guide is great!

Hey, nice video. I skipped some sections that I already know alot about, but I didnt see anything about intentionally shoving the wave into the enemy tower for a reset from an already pushed position. I have watched some other videos that suggest that this can actually be a more efficient strategy than aggroing onto your ranged creeps in certain circumstances. What are your thoughts?

Aggro is useful 90% of the time. I watch pro players use these ALL the time. The only time they don't do it is when 1. It leads to creeps being under tower (in which you can aggro them out of tower) or 2. They want to keep the creepwave as is (in this sense, number 1 kinda falls under this category). For example in mid when they're zoning out the enemy

Here are some more tips for better laning :) 1. Ask your support to always stack the small camp, then pull. This will result in the whole wave being killed rather than only 1 or 2 creeps (which often results in a double wave and exacerbates the problem) 2. If you see the enemy is coming to deny your creep (that is near you), try to aggro and pull that creep EVEN further into your comfortable zone or under tower. Many times, even 3k mmr players fall for the bait and get a few tower hits trying to last hit or deny your creep 3. Try to be less aggressive when the lane has same amount of radiant and dire creeps and be MORE aggressive when the lane has more enemy creeps. When you'll try to be aggressive on the enemy, the lane will not push towards the enemy, rather it'll stay in your comfortable zone
@SammyLame
@SammyLame Жыл бұрын
Your first point is actually bad and can make you lose lane, In the firsst minutes there is no way that enemy pos 4 let you stack small camp, maybe on very low rank or very bad pos 4. First minutes of the lane your pos 5 should just block big camp, and try trade with enemy, later he can pull small camp if enemy allow it but at this point lane is won and your pos 5 should actually do something diffrent on the map

I wish you made a video about dota psychology. It feels like most of the games are about fighting your teammates as well as fighting the opponent. It shouldn't be like that but it is. And i wish i knew how to keep my mind clear while playing games like this.

Thanks for the video! But there's something I still don't understand. how to prevent the enemie range creep from being denied after pulling aggro. When we pull aggro the 3 enemy melee creeps go towards the range creep but the same thing happens with allied creeps. This makes it hard for me to secure the ranged creep either because it's too far away from my hero or the 4 enemy is going to wear me down.
@PainDota
@PainDota Жыл бұрын
Good question. That will happen if the enemy also aggros. Usually, you'll have to give up that creep unless you have a hero that has an ability to secure creeps, like Muerta's Q for example. Or ask your support to secure it

I do everything you mentioned naturally because of my Dota experience. My average GPM XPM is 700 + on my profile. As a result I usually get 3-4 Noob teammates 70% of my games. My lane passes with 60+ CS in 10 minutes. Mid and Off feeds like shit.

Some time, there is moments when you wish your lane mate watch this video. I static the lane near my tower without it shooting them. Simply keeping opposite two range creep alive and auto attack my side of creep once it gets half health. Then tank them without attacking them while my creep wave coming. This needs to be done with right amount of regen tho, so two set tango and only certain heroes with nice passive skill can do this. This will give me comfortably farming them creeps without pushing. But the support just have to auto attack them, or aggro the creep further into tower and break my static. When I try to say it, they just think I'm saying bullshit and flame war somehow started. Many time I just simply "It is what it is" and just find other way to farm safely. Don't get me wrong, they do pull and proper ward. but this is quite advanced and give little bit advantages, which is what the team need against same level of skill in higher rank. Many people don't get the "Creep equilibrium" and I wonder why they even in this rank. They cant keep the equilibrium, they cant push it, or pull it a bit. They have no sense of controlling the equilibrium. Its alien concept for boosted players. Then when their carry got too much forward and off position to be harassed and losing another regen, they start blaming them for slow farm, since the carry must go neutral creep prematurely. Don't use booster ever. You wont understand what is going on in that rank. wasting your money, your time, and other people's time. You will shot down to your real rank anyway and gonna use booster again, and again , and again in a stupid cycle. Basically making you play that account on "losing shift" and the booster play the account on "winning shift". You play that boosted account with very large chance to lose. Boosting is pay to lose.

No, don't go jungle at level 1. You will not get better, you will not even reach Divine rank and you will certainly be plagued with low behaviour score from the reports you get if you keep doing this often. Play your role properly and don't be a dick to your team doing this. You will win more if you play properly I assure you.

If you play support you really have to adopt the mindset that "my carry in lane will carry my ass if I give it my all in helping him win or at least draw even in lane". Let go of your ego and fully trust your cores that they will carry you to victory. It goes both ways. If you're the carry don't be an ass to a support who's trying his/her best in giving you a good lane. No complaining, no flaming and immediately mute the entire enemy team once the game starts. They usually have nothing good to say and will jump the opportunity to taunt you anyway. That's the way to keep your behaviour score high. Improving on the game is a whole different matter though.
