Yeah, they may be very different games in some respects but pool players can always learn some really good tips from aspects of snooker. Even just having a go at long difficult potting on a snooker table can help hone your general potting accuracy like nothing else.

Pretty interesting video, I'm glad you went over the double-kiss as a viable option if you are completely straight on the black on the cushion, not many people even consider it. It's risky to do but a great shot on some situations imo. Also great job, you are almost at the Silver Play Button!!

Interesting that this would strike a guy like Hendry in the snooker world as revolutionary. Back in 1998, I managed a pool hall in Montreal while going to university. Every night after closing, the janitor/maintenance guy would challenge me a race-to-seven session of 9 ball. I would say he beat me at least 55 or 60 percent of the time--not because he was a particularly good pool player (or because I was a bad one), but because he was a master of this move and would deploy it every chance he got, leaving the object ball and cue ball both flush with opposite rails nearly every time, and nearly every time it threw me completely off. When done correctly, it's a very difficult shot to replicate in order to ruin your opponent's day in turn. You're much more likely to give him either a workable shot or a good opportunity for yet another annoying safety. [Edited for the sake of honesty: Manuelo definitely won more games than he lost against me. But not that many more, and he was always furious when he lost.]

Love your show mate. I think the interviews with pro sportsmen/women are the most entertaining, give's an insight into their own sports. Also, I bet some of the snooker referees would have some interesting stories to tell? What's your view on a player's stance when they address the ball, should it just come naturally or is there more to it than that?

I remember a respotted black between Darren Morgan and Ronnie O'Sullivan. They both played a shot up and down the table, trying to get closest to the baulk cushion. O'Sullivan won that, so he put his opponent in. Morgan put the cue ball in the D, hit the black and doubled it into one of the baulk pockets. Brilliant!

Wouldn't it be better to play the opening shot black on side cushion above the middle pocket and cue ball opposite side cushion below the middle pocket? Less chance of leaving a double there and if they do, I feel doubles into corners are tougher than doubles into the middles.

couple of days a go i was playing with me friend and i got the re spotted black, so i put the white ball at the green spot and focused the black ball like never before, so i potted the black with that shot and my friend was going crazy with my shot, but i hit it too hard and so after potting the black ball, the white ball rolled back to the bulk side pocket i dont remember the player's name who i saw in the championship match doing the exact same shot, but what a shot was that
@chrisLRL

So potentially either shot could leave a shot on and looking at either shot after the respot it's the same level of risk. I still say personal preference rather than gaining an advantage.

Another great video Stephen. I have Cue Club 2 on my PC (Great game) but the computer always manages to pot the black on a re-spot. Is that not an option or is the risk of leaving it on to much?
@anthonydenn4345
@anthonydenn4345 Жыл бұрын
It's an option, but a very difficult one. Like you said, the chance of missing the pot and leaving it on is higher. Or you give your opponent a chance to make an easier safety shot than he would have had, if you didn't play the pot. Pro's play the percentage safety, like Stephen demonstrated, all of the time.

Hendry was good but Ronnie O Sullivan is the greatest player ever to pick up a cue! The standard and level of Ronnie’s achievement should be really understood in terms of his longevity and the growth and depth of opponents he has beaten. And he has done it consistently against the greatest players of the game. Not just his fellow members of the ‘Class of 92’ in John Higgins and Mark Williams - but Steve Davis, Stephen Hendry, Neil Robertson, Mark Selby, Judd Trump, Ebdon, Dott, Ding, Allen, all winners of the triple crown events.The thing with Ronnie is, his time has gone on a lot longer than anyone else, which makes his record even more incredible.” But his electric style of play also makes him the most watched and admired by his fellow pro. They all call him the greatest player.And they are just underlying the obvious to us snooker fans!.ROS records say it all!

Why not just pot the black from yellow spot into the corner pocket?
@aravindthippeswamy
@aravindthippeswamy Жыл бұрын
kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z3Tco4COqLqtfZo that will only work if the black is absolutely stuck to the cushion. The farther black is from the cushion, i'm talking 1/4 inch distances here, forget it. As to putting black on the side cushion with the break-off, on dodgy tables, you are asking for trouble because that shot is played at a slow pace and with spin as against to the classical break-off where there is more pace and much more center striking. I would really appreciate if you went S&M on your technique and did a series on just that.

Don't know why no Pro's ever attempt to pot the black off the spot? If my eye is in I'll have a crack.. left corner with a touch of right hand side or right with left, and because of the acute angle you almost always get it safe if you miss.
