What a final this was. When Stephen fluked the yellow Mark might have thought it's all over. You can even see Mark getting ready to shake Stephen's hand when he goes for the black in the middle. This decider could only be beaten by the Wilson v McGill decider at the 2020 World Championship Semi-Final.

I remember watching this at 12-13yrs old tucked up in bed with my portable 14" tv not far from my feet. I was allowed to stay up later than usual to watch the final. I remember pleading with my mother to let me watch the final. I am a proud welshman so ofcourse i was pulling for Williams. I hated Hendry at the time because he kept destroying my fav player Jimmy white. The tension in this final was something else. It was rather special to watch at that age, dare i say inspiring. I started playing snooker shortly after this and still play to this day. Snooker is a fantastic game. It has all the twists and turns, drama, sometimes comedy, happy feelings, sad, despair...it has it all. Some people thing that snooker is just slamming balls about on a green cloth table but its so much more than that. Its a game of very fine skill, puzzle solving, a true test of patience and temperament. Having the courage to play a positive game which means taking the shots on when their there to take. Safety play which is the tactical side of the game. You have to really engage the brain to play good snooker. A life long passion. Okay, off to watch Steven Hendry's latest "cue tips" video. Ive come to like and respect Steven as ive gotten older and more mature. Laters🎱💥💯

Hendry's final attempt on the black wasn't an easy pot but everyone thought that someone as good as him would pot that. In that respect it is very reminiscent of the Steve Davis missed black in the 1985 world final.
