I have two of them right now and after some minor cleaning and oiling, they both sew really good. I love those older Japanese sewing machines.

Thank you for this video! My grandparents just gave me a machine very very similar to this one, and I was worried about threading it correctly so I'm glad you posted this!

thanks for posting! I could not find the reverse on my machine until I saw this! I found a brand new brother prestige portable 270. beat up case with a perfect condition machine inside! The only thing I need is a new light bulb socket if anyone know where to find..... otherwise I will have to rig something up. Thanks

Hey, Toby. Thanks for posting this video - there are very, very few tutorials for this specific machine out there. And even fewer GOOD ones. I have this machine in the blue color, and it's been sitting on my desk for while as I try to educate myself on how to sew. As a beginner, this is so incredibly valuable for my learning process! Appreciate you taking the time!

I got one for $40 set in a sewing table, it was clunking and slow so i oiled it and it works smooth and fast and quiet now.

What a superb machine. Not many of us appreciated Japanese products in the 50s. Boy were we wrong. I worked in the photography business starting in 1966. By this time, German cameras were so outclassed by the Japanese it was impossible to sell German products. Now as a collector/ operator I love Japanese machines. Too bad the Chinese manufacturers aren't as dedicated to quality and durability.

I must agree with you. Japanese products are so well-made, most of the cameras, cars, sewing machines, appliances, etc, are still working to this day! Same thing happened with Singer in the 60's, they couldn't keep up with Japanese quality and affordability so their quality went down to match the price.

I see you put the bobbin in the bobbin case counter-clockwise, yet I saw in another's video they put the bobbin in clock-wise. Does it depend on which machine and model one has, or should all bobbins go in a bobbin case the same? I'm new to sewing, trying to learn after pulling out my grandmother's vintage Kenmore.

After putting my bobbin in my case counterclockwise for the better part of two years, I recently learned that this style of case always calls for clockwise. Now, what does it say that I never had any problems going counter-clockwise? I'm not sure, maybe these are just fool-proof machines. Learn something new everyday!
