Finally a good fucking video on this. I was just about to burn down the computer and the boat.

Looks like the previous owner used cloths line cable. I once had a boat with cloths line cable steering. After it failed on me the first time, I went to a hardware store and bought a length of aircraft cable. Never failed me again.

Might be correct. It was a thin steel rope with a very thick coating.

I like the turnbuckle idea, before installing, take it apart and add some appropriate sized nuts to the eye screws, then once you have the correct tension you want, use the nuts to lock the turnbuckle in place. I think this is going to solve my problem, because it’s not easy to get the perfect tension just trying to pull the cable with your hands. Mine is installed and works, but it moans and groans like a hooker...

Good idea. Looking back, I should have put the turnbuckles into the long stretches between dashboard and stern.

What type of springs do you use for the steering

Sir what is the mass of the drum used and on what parameters does the size of the drum depends. Is there any literature which can help me to do calculation of tension in the cables.
@fluxing51094 жыл бұрын
As far as I can tell, any size will do. A big drum will turn your tiller fast and require a lot of strength, whereas a small drum will turn very easily, but require more rotations. As for the tension: Not too much.

Any advice on where to find replacement parts for a drum steering system?
@fluxing51094 жыл бұрын
Sorry, no idea. If you have to buy new parts anyway, maybe it makes sense to switch to a cable steering?

Hello, what kind of wire rope did you use?
@fluxing51093 жыл бұрын
If I remember correctly, this is 4mm stainless steel rope.

Hey, I have a very similar setup but mine is very loose and doesn’t have any springs on it. Do you have any ideas as to why?
@fluxing51093 жыл бұрын
Whoever built it, did not use springs, I guess. You could add one one every side in the long stretch from front to back.

You should pull all that stuff shitty cable out and replace it with dineema cord which is just as strong but more forgiving and easier to work with.

Hi, where can I find new cable ?
@fluxing51094 жыл бұрын
I bought mine in a local hardware store. Otherwise, online should be an option.

Why put stupid music on your video ? Would be a good video but you have to be like everyone else and play music . We want talk not music.
